Is this compatible with cat 6A?
Adil A
on Apr 16, 2021
BEST ANSWER: This is a cat6 panel, so I would only rate the installation as meeting cat6 specs. That said, in practice I find that the most common difference between cat6 and cat6a cable is that some vendors do without the center plastic core which divides the conductors in cat6 cable while this feature is included with most (all?) cat6a cable (I don't believe this is a hard and fast rule for either spec). You can use a cable with or without the center core with this patch panel so if you already have the cat6a UTP cable ran, it should work fine.

Will this mount in a Leviton Structured Media panel using the push lock pins?
David V
on Aug 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Absolutely not. This is a traditional 19" rack mount patch panel. It is not designed for use inside a leviton structured wiring panel. The closest thing that Monoprice has, would be Product # 21653. Having said this, it has the push pins similar to the Leviton board - but I do not know if the holes will line up perfectly like a leviton module - as I have never installed a 21653 into a leviton structured wiring panel. YMMV. Good luck.

That patch panel is intended for a 19 inch rack so it will likely not going to fit well. Levington does have patch panels that will fitthw media panel, 476TM5-24 (24 port) or 476TM-512 (12 port) or you can use a 66 bracket style Patch panel that will work as well and cost less monoprixe has one, CAT6 mini panel it only supports 12 connection though.

Can I punch down cat 5E on this?
A shopper
on Dec 21, 2023
BEST ANSWER: No. Cat 5e and Cat 6 use a different gage (size) of wire so while you might be able to get some of the patches to work, simply bumping them could break the connection. They make a Cat 5e patch panel.

Yes you can. Cat 5E and Cat 6 are just standards of speed and bandwidth. You can move up a standard in installation. EX Cat 5e up to Cat 6. But you can not move back without loosing speed standard.

In the video, around 2:58, it shows putting relief clips on to protect the cable after punching it down. Do these come with the panel, or is that a separate part? (I can't find it at monoprice.com)

The photo shows color on the connectors and a sticker - and they seem to show different wiring diagrams. The paint on the connectors (which seems poorly applied) would require splitting pairs to the point maintaining Cat6 maximum strip of 0.51" will be difficult. Which is correct, the paint or the sticker? (https://images.monoprice.com/productlargeimages/73053.jpg)

Monoprice 24-port Cat6 Patch Panel, 110 Type (568A/B Compatible) (UL)
Monoprice 48-port Cat6 Patch Panel, 110 Type (568A/B Compatible)
BEST ANSWER: Since the pairs are terminated right next to one another, you can keep the twist until just before the termination. Where the 0.51" really matters is in termination in RJ45 cables, which by necessity have to be lined up without the twist to insert them into the plug. As long as you keep the wires twisted until just before termination, you should be fine in terminating them in these blocks without violating the standard.

There seem to be two different color codes in the pictures above, one painted on the connectors and one on the sticker. The paint (which seems poorly applied) seems to indicate the pairs need to be split, which will make wiring in accordance with Cat6 standards - maximum 0.51" untwisted - very difficult. The close-up of the color code on the 24-port switch does not work - it opens as an angled view of the front - but the full image appears to have the same code as the 48-port, assuming of course that the photos are even correct. Which color code do these actually use?

Have used several of these, zero issues
This is a really cost-effective and space-efficient way of punching down more than 4 network cables in a wiring closet area. I've used these in my house and multiples of these in the office server rack and client locations. Have yet to have a problem after years of service.

Worked well
Did what I needed and it's well priced. I didn't use the plastic punchdown it came with, I had my own metal one, so YMMV if you use the tool it comes with.

Great, but missing colors
I'm generally happy with the purchase, but FYI, the version that arrived did not have any of the color-codes on the jack terminals. Everything was solid white. So I had to figure it out by watching the video and inferring the terminals from the chart. Not a big deal once you figure it out, but definitely cause for confusion for any novice.

Perfect patch
Make sure you punch the wires down on either side of the back. It is clearly marked on the patch. Wires are not contiguous on the same side. 568A/B clearly marked
