Will each of the ports output mono or stereo audio?
A shopper
on Apr 10, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Each output will give you stereo out. So if you plug in 2 sets of "stereo" headphones, you will hear it in Stereo. This is assuming you plug the male end into something that is stereo as well.

I believe 3.5mm is mono. The only thing that happens when you use a splitter is the signal strength is cut in half. Your output signal should still be fine as long as the original signal source is strong, if you use this coming from a cell phone you will have 2 very week signals.

Stereo. I have this split going to two of the same amplifiers wired up to an array of speakers and i can tell the music is mixed and certain sounds come from left versus right.

I used it on a cell phone watching Netflix with my wife. I really want to say it was stereo. I would have noticed if mono.

Looking to plug in a Headset that has a microphone cable and speaker cable into a computer with only one headphone Jack, Anyone know if this will work for that?

BEST ANSWER: Your question is a little unclear. There's two ways I can read it. I'll try to answer both.
First, some assumptions. I assume that you plan to connect two headsets to your computer at the same time. I also assume that both headsets are identical, and that they have plugs that will physically fit into this device. (So, 3.5mm jacks.) Finally, I assume that your headsets have two wires (both with 3.5mm tips) coming out of them that normally both plugged into a computer at the same time.
With those assumptions in mind:
* If you don't care about the microphone functionality, then you can use both headsets at the same time by only plugging the headphone cables from each headset into this device, and then the device into the headphone socket on your computer.
* If you care about only /one/ of the headset's having a working microphone, then you can do the same as stated above, while also plugging either of the headset's microphone jacks into the computer's built-in headphone socket, presuming it has one.
* You CANNOT use a single headset, plug both the headphone and microphone cable into this device, and then this device into any socket on your computer, to gain the functionality of both. While adapters for this purpose do exist, this is not one of them. This may damage the headset's built-in microphone, your laptop (though unlikely), or both. --- If you would like an adapter that does this, look for one that has three black rings on it's tip, rather than the two that this one has. I wasn't able to find such an adapter with a quick search, but maybe you'll have better luck.
* You SHOULD NOT (but technically MAYBE can) use this device to plug the microphone cable from both headsets into the microphone port on your computer. I don't know if this will work or not, as it depends on how safely the device is constructed. A safe device won't let you do this; the computer just won't hear any audio. An unsafe one may allow this, but it may damage the circuitry of the computer.

Don't think so. This just connects one STEREO out to two STEREO out. You likely need 4 contacts out (TRRS - 3 signals and ground) to STEREO headset/speakers (two signals and ground) and Mono microphone in. (one signal and ground). There connectors made for your purpose.

No. If your computed doesn't have a mic input, it probably lacks a sound card and will not record from a microphone. Plugging a mic into the earphone jack would not work even if it did.

Works like a charm
Allowed me to build a hybrid 4.1 system for my Epson projector; most excellent!
This little gizmo allows me to integrate my Bose Cinemate II with my big Sound Dynamic speakers.

There were some manufacturing defects which almost rendered this adapter unusable.

Good quality splitters
The good quality I have learned to expect from Monoprice, and they are dirt cheap! Delivery took a little longer than planned, but that was ok with me in this instance.

Works Fine
1 source of music goes in, 2 sources can be attached. Simple and works just fine. It is small which works great on computers and such taking up minimal space. The only thing that would make it better is if it were made in USA. It is very inexpensive and worth the money.

Could be better
This is by far the best form factor for a stereo jack splitter because there are no cords to bend and break.
Unfortunately, the parts used to make this are inconsistent, meaning that you may have connection issues with some headphones and some 3.5mm ports.
Because this price is so much lower than other splitters, and because I prefer this form factor, I would recommend buying 2-3x as many as you need and just picking out the ones that work the best.
