Easy to install and seems mostly universal. Using to hold a 32 lb sony projector and it does not feel sturdy at all. The since plastic bolt holding the spider to the main mount is inadequate and fine adjustment is very difficult. Every week I have to readjust it seems like because the picture starts getting crooked. The 360 rotation set screw is tiny and ive cranked down on it and it still rotates. Just dusting off the projector with a swiffer brush will rotate it way out of alignment.
This did not fit my Epson Home Cinema 3800 and the plastic valence did not snap in place as advertised. Since this probably fits most models maybe list which ones it doesn't. Possibly even give the reach on the spider arms because it is not universal.
Bought this after I bought Monoprice PID 3874, which lacks the adjustability required to hang a projector from the ceiling.
Followed the instructions to try to mark center of gravity - this is big, as this will make it substantially easier to align and aim your projector. My Epson only has 3 mounting holes and their spacing made it impossible to line it up directly at center of gravity, but I got close.
The method for attaching the "spider" portion to the ceiling mount is precarious at best! It uses a single threaded thumb screw to hold it into a slot. (Again - if your CoG is messed up, it could actually work itself free over time). My biggest complaint here is that even with a small, light projector, I really don't have a lot of confidence in that interface. Additionally, no matter how much you tighten that knob, the whole thing is too flimsy and there is some play at that interface, making it very difficult to get it aligned perfectly.
Long story short, you get what you pay for - its literally 10% the cost of a name-brand mount, but its also far lighter and flimsier.
The bracket is just fine with the exception of how the spider mounts to the arm. There is only one small M12 screw... I've had many projectors and many mounts, and this is by far the worst design I have seen. Other mounts I've owned had large pins or welded brackets that could hold a ton of weight along with secondary systems like wires or such to ensure that in the case of a failure, the projector does not fall to the ground.
This one needs to go back to be redesigned to beef up that one part, and It'd be a 5 star product, but that one part is critically important.
I got this mount for my Epson 5040UBe. Unfortunately, the arms are not long enough to reach to the mounting holes on a projector this big. I had to make a plate that spanned the distance to the projector's holes. For smaller projectors, it probably works fine.
I was able to use the rest of the parts (just not the arms). The gimbal is good and functional.
You have to realize that you are hanging the entire projector on one small bolt (two if you count the second alignment bolt (which had no nut included--I remedied that. If that bolt ever pulls out of the plastic knob, it will fall--that's why I found a nut that could go onto that second bolt.
An OK mount, great price, but a few flaws. If I were going to redesign this, I'd make the bolts and plate it slides into larger in diameter (by 1 or 2 inches). This would also increase the stability of that part of the mount.
The ceiling base plate, tube, gimbal, etc are all good. Just the arms and slide mount knob/bolts need some beefing up.
I used this mount for a long time but eventually changed to a peerless unit that has an adjustment knob. Heavier projectors can be hard to align with this unit unless their weight is perfectly centered.
I now use this mount turned 90 degrees to hold upr my outdoor marine radio enclosure...
I used it on a Sony VPL-HW45ES projector. Worked well; was able to remove one of the arms and align to the 3 mounting holes on the projector. Note that the included M5 screws weren't long enough. I used screws and spacers from the extension mount Monoprice product ID 5466 and they worked fine. You can buy both spacers and screws cheaply at a hardware store, too. Otherwise buying both mounts is still way cheaper than any of the other compatible mounts you can find. Overall this is an awesome mount for an extremely low price!
Does exactly what I want it to do - holds my projector in place suspended from the ceiling and allows me to make fine adjustments. Was a piece of cake to install - took maybe 30 minutes to install and adjust.
I'd have given this 1 star but I accept some of the fault as my own for not realizing the universal nature of the mount wouldn't fit my Optoma HD142x.
As for the mount, upon reading directions you have to loosen the screws to the arms in order to move them. A quarter turn or so is sufficient, it breaks the screws free. They move. Within minutes (or seconds), the extremely short screws then fall out and the arms fall off, requiring reassembly. This can me mediated somewhat by removing the washers off the screws, but that doesn't allow much grip and, in general, is a bad idea.
Next problem was the ceiling mounting assembly. I have a drywall ceiling over ceiling rafters. There's no place for me to sink 4 lag bolts into solid wood. Furthermore, if I turn it 45 degrees so I can at least center two lag bolts, the projector (if I had one that fit onto it), would be pointed 45 degrees away from where my screen is.
