Also, importantly, is everything velocity sensitive? (i.e., does the sound/volume of each pad and cymbals change depending on how hard or soft you hit it?) This is a very important thing that is omitted from the description, and goes a long way to making the difference between a drum-toy, and a real musical instrument.

BEST ANSWER: They are, but the range isn't as wide as with a more expensive set. The cymbals, for example, don't crescendo quite as cleanly as a $1000 set, but for the price it is definitely a serviceable instrument and not just a toy.

How long does it take to completely set up and break down/pack up this set, after a bit of practice doing so?
New User U
on Nov 15, 2020
BEST ANSWER: If you take it completely apart, it would take about 15 minutes to reassemble. If you don't have to completely disassemble the set, just remove the cymbals and snare, and fold up the arms; it would only take 5 minutes to get going.

Can the kit be re-configured for left handed players?
Jeff C
on Nov 15, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Looks like it's modular like any other electric drum kit, so I'd say yes. The hi hat/floor tom can be swapped and the two rack toms as well. The snare can be mounted on the right vertical pole instead of the left, and the peddles can be placed accordingly.

I just saw a review on this from a few years ago, and the one issue mentioned that would definitely make me crazy is it had a delay on the response of the hi-hat pedal. Does anyone know if that problem has since been fixed?

How much space/footage does this set require?

BEST ANSWER: The actual footprint (of the base) is about 20" x 24". The arms can be repositioned, so the wingspan (as opposed to footprint) could probably double the width. The total depth probably wouldn't exceed 30" if you adjusted everything to it's farthest point, but obviously where you put your throne (stool) and pedals is up to you.

Good little Drum Set.
The mesh heads really make a difference. The default sounds are decent but would advise attaching to something like EZDrummer. It is a little small which is the only slight downside. You also cant adjust the individual sound levels like crash kick etc...The kick and hi-hat pedals work well.

Quality issues
I liked the sound of the parts that worked. Too bad there was one broken bracket and one tom drum that didn't work. When I returned it and asked for a refund, I was only granted a store credit.

Great option if you?re tight on space
perfect for my needs! I had a full sized 6 head Alesis kit years ago that took up too much space and eventually had to sell it. This monoprice set doesn?t have all of the features but the smaller form factor is perfect for my needs. Happy to be able to play along again when I have time to enjoy my favorite music. Great value. I wonder if I could eventually upgrade the module with an Alesis or Roland.

Just ok, arrived with a broken tom pad
If you pay $190 on sale you will be both surprised at the value but also disappointed at a few big drawbacks. Mine also arrived with a broken tom pad (which I fixed my adding my own drum trigger) and have yet to get a response from Monoprice.
Pros:
- Pretty well built
- Pads are very playable with good response
- Hardware seems to be of good quality
- Module has USB MIDI so this could be used as a controller
- A good starting point to upgrade components one-by-one
Cons:
- The pedals have poor responsiveness and are borderline unplayable for anything quick
- The pedals are also not standard triggers, meaning you cannot upgrade them with better triggers (or use these pedals with a better module
- The internal sounds are very poor, as is latency when using the module's sounds (curiously the latency goes away when using this as a MIDI controller)
- Despite what the manual says, the ride is not dual trigger and does not have the ability to play the bell separately
In the end I used this as a starting point to a better drumkit but upgrading the drum module, hi hat controller, and kick pedal with used Roland & Simmons gear. Now have a decent kick that netted me less than $400. I recommend this as either a fun toy or a place to cheaply build up an ok drum set for practice or drum programming; just make sure to buy it when it goes on sale.

Good Value Basic E-Kit
I got this kit when it was on sale. I am primarily a guitar player and wanted a basic e-kit to use when programming drum parts. I use the USB out into Logic Pro and it works great for that. The cymbals have a button on the bottom that lets you "choke" the hits, which is cool, but it doesn't work 100% of the time. The drum module is the weakest part of this kit as it is very basic. But fortunately you could always get a different module to use with these pads, note you may need to get new cables as these connect to the included module with a single connector. I find the mesh heads to be nice, and WAY better then the rubber pads found on other budget kits.

Mesh Heads Make the Kit
I've been drumming for 25 years and this is the second electric set I've ever owned. The first one had rubber heads and I couldn't stand playing it. Since I moved to an apartment and can't play my acoustic set I've been looking for a substitute to scratch the drumming itch. Bought this kit two weeks ago and so far and I love it. The mesh heads give a real nice rebound when playing and I was pleasantly surprised that the triggers pick up pretty accurately on the velocity of the strike. Doesn't quite pick up every hit, especially if you're striking multiple pads at once, but it's a lot more impressive than I expected - especially for the price. Drummers on a budget: this is a great buy.

Outstanding value
I'm not a pro, but I've played drums for a while. Wanted to get something electronic that we could use in our church, from time to time and for playing around at home. I played on a few things in a couple of stores and decided that mesh pads were the key feature I wanted. This isn't a top of the line system. The brain box is limited, although as a MIDI device you can roll your own brain on a computer. The toms are very basic and a little small for beginners that don't have good "aim" with their sticks, but I haven't found that to be an issue. I got this on sale for $189 and consider it a steal at that price. For $299 it's still a great value.

Amazing value for very capable drum set
I am just a beginner but was blown away by how much you get for your money with this drum kit, especially if you happen to find it on sale.
This set has a lot of advanced features, including mesh heads on the pads, for a real drum feel, and the ability to silence the cymbals by grabbing them, just like the real thing. Digital samples produced by this kit are quite good.
Putting it together was a bit intimidating since there are many many parts. But it is well packaged and it was pretty easy to get it up and running once you understand what is required. Everything you need is included, including the all important tool for tightening the dozens fittings. Printed instructions are good if not great.
The control box is basci but more than adequate. A good selection of drum voices, (rock, jazz, electric, etc) outputs to amp or headphones (both sound great) and input for music device so you can play along with songs. Powered by included 9V adapter.
Once assembled, it is still light and compact enough to move around without much effort.
You would be hard pressed to find any kit for this price, much less one that is this good.

Great Price
I?m a drummer with 20 plus years of experience This is my first electronic kit. I chose those over similar price pointed kits due to my belief that Monprice makes better quality products than anyone else for the price. One year later I can say that I?m not disappointed at all.
This kit compares to a $500-$600 kit with its playability and simple interface. Monoprice knocked it out of the park. Assembles easy. Mesh heads are responsive and tight. Electronics are simple, easy to use. The preset kit arrangements are good though some sound more crisp than others, especially the metal and live metal kits. The only knock for me is that I lose the ability to play double bass patterns, as the pedal interface only allows for one, but I knew that before my purchase. I compensate that by playing double patterns from the bass to the hi hat pedals.
I?ve seen this go for $240 two times and at that price it?s surprising that they are making a profit. I paid the standard $299 and it?s still a steal.
Note: I?m not paid or compensated in any way for my review. This is just me adding my subjective opinion for a product that more prospective buyers should consider.
