is it possible to put lay another piece of gear under this stand? i.e., do the legs lie flat or do they come up? it's hard to tell from the product photo - I'm trying to figure out if this will work for me if I'm looking for something to wedge under one piece of gear to raise another smaller piece of gear over it.

BEST ANSWER: They are not completely flat. there is a very small lip (maybe an 1/8"...?) that runs along the outer edge of the base pieces, and then a raised lip towards the rear of the base. We use them to raise one laptop on top of another. It works pretty well. I hope this helps.

The legs lie flat but have an outer raised metal strip on the exterior of each leg. I place the stand on top of a 19-inch gear rack that contains all my microphones, power conditioners, controller, etc; then I tuck a small laptop (backup) on top of the legs, with my main (primary) laptop on the top of the adjustable laptop stand.

Bottoms are flat, with optional very thin stick-on pads to limit sliding and/or marring. However, the bottom pieces are L-shaped, about 1/4" high. Very sturdy. I would expect they could be wedged under most things. A towel or similar could be used to protect the stand or limit movement.

The legs are 10 inches long and there is a small 1/4" lip on the outer edges on both sides. I can put my keyboard in this area no problem, but it's not completely flat.

The legs lie flat. Each leg is two brackets that interlock. They don't move once assembled.

Why does it say this product is height ajustable? It isn't.

BEST ANSWER: Yes, it is. You can't adjust the height on the fly, but you can adjust it while setting it up to be the height you want. And if you want to change that height, just remove the laptop and take 60 seconds to make the adjustment. It's best for applications where you don't need to adjust too often though

When you put it together, you have couple of options of which bolt holes to use, which does change the height

I don't see how that is possible (to change the height), as no matter what holes you choose for the cross bars, the SIDE pieces are what determine the height, and both sides are one single piece at a fixed height. (as the photo clearly shows).

Height is adjustable by selecting the holes you put the (horizontal) braces in.

What is the maximum height this stand can be extended to? And how do you adjust it?

BEST ANSWER: I see from the pictures, that the top piece and the bottom piece are held together by the rods that go through the side holes, and depending on which holes you use can vary the height. it should be made more clear for sure. look close at the last picture of the rear. they should attach the instruction sheet here somewhere.

I take back my comment (made earlier today), where I stated that the two side pieces were each, a single piece at a fixed height, and therefor the height was not adjustable. Upon more careful inspection of the photographs, I see now that there are indeed two seperate pieces for each side. In the main photo, at the angle the photo was taken, the knobs obscure the dividing line of the two pieces (?) SO... I was wrong. You CAN adjust the height! My appologies.

Assembly required
Lots of assembly is required with this stand. In the future, I will likely buy a one-piece or easier-to-assemble model.

Decent
Not the sturdiest stand, but does the job. Easy to assemble, adjustable height, good for the relatively low cost

Excellent Stand for mixer/laptop
Just got this and it works perfect for my Yamaha mixer. Needed some extra space on my desk so I browsed and found this. I hoped it would fit okay and fortunately it fit exactly the dimensions of the mixer. Arrived right on time and easy to set up and very sturdy. Great for if you're looking for a nice simple stand for your mixer or laptop or any DJ gear.
