This is the combo. It has a 12inch speaker built into it. It "combines" both the amplifier and the speaker, hence the name "combo."

Understood, my question was more about whether it is the same amp head, or if the SB-12 combo uses a different amp stage.
My understanding is that the amplifier section in the combo is the same as the head.

Since the Chinese Shuguang factory shut down, its either Slovakian or Russian. Russian are more expensive so they went with the cheaper Slovakian (JJs).

The use manual says the following: FOOT SWITCH: 1/4" jack for connecting an optional foot switch (not included),
which can be used to toggle the reverb effect on or off and to switch between the

Yes. Look at the 5th white knob from left to right. There's a small toggle switch "sel" for the channels (drive/clean) between 5th and 6th knob. Between the 6th and 7th white knob there's a "brite" toggle.

Is the reverb tank in this the same as in the 15 watt version? If so, would the MOD tank be a drop in replacement as well?
New User U
on Sep 29, 2021
BEST ANSWER: I have both of the amps. The 15 watts reverb is much better in my opinion. You can get surf sounds out of it. The 50 watt reverb is a tiny spring reverb tank. Not big enough in my opinion. I may upgrade the reverb tank. I actually prefer the 15 watt amp over the 50 watt version. I’m just a blues rock player. Maybe heavier styles of music is where the 50 watt will or would shine.

The quality of the reverb on the 15 watt amp is not as good and sounds cheap. I have the 50 watt head version and the quality is much better. The 50 watt doesn't add a ton of reverb to the mix, however, but it's plenty for my tastes.. These are excellent amps for the price.

Has anyone tried swapping the reverb tank or 12AY7 tube to see if it has an impact on the reverb? Anyone tried a long (4 spring) tank in this? Not a necessary upgrade, just curious if it could enhance the reverb.
New User U
on Oct 20, 2021
BEST ANSWER: I replaced the reverb tank with an Accutronics 8BB2C1B tank(3 spring). That made absolutely no difference. Looking at the circuit via PCB inspection there op amps on either side of the reverb tank, not a 12AY7. So replacing any tube will not make any difference. The only to accurately adjust the gain of the reverb circuit is to change the op amp stage gains. It would be best to have a schematic. However, Monoprice is not willing to supply one. They clearly believe that having a 'reverb' that does not really work is good enough and they don't want to help owners that are willing to make adjustments and share the information. Nice...

Is 8 ohm the max impedance? I see it has an 8 ohm Seventy80. I have an external cab with a 16 ohm Celestial Neo Creamback. If I plug the external can in will it disconnect the internal speaker like on the 15 watt? Awesome amp! I upgraded thebspeakers though.
The only complaint is the speaker used. While I do understand the logic, I still am not a fan of the celestion seventy 80s. Although, it could be addressed by just adjusting the settings.
I got mine shipped securely. I updated the speakers to emminence cannibis rex but thats just for my own taste. Wpuld be nice to have different options for the speaker if that is feasible at all for monoprice.
Bottom line, its a lot of ampmfor the price. I highly recommend it!

Unbeatable at this price pint
I'm a gigging musician that uses a Marshall DSL40c on stage. I was looking for a practice amp and everything I tried in this price range was solid state and very "fake" sounding modeling, So I got a REAL tube amp with REAL tube sound.
Pros: Incredible power and sound for price. Seperate EQ controls for
BOTH channels (even the Marshall doesn't have that).
The reverb is much better than the Marshalls, also. Weight
is not overwhelming to transport around.
Cons: Unknown durability. The "Clean" channel doesn't
overdrive to that nice "crunch" sound I'm used to. The
"Drive" channel can't be dialed back enoung for that nice
"Crunch" sound.
P.S. I was saving to pay full price ($549) which is a bargain, but bought it during a sale for $412. Unbelievable!

Better than my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III
Great tones with any pickups. Both channels are very usable. Clean channel gives a lot of headroom. I bought a Hosa footswitch off Amazon that controls channels and reverb. I replaced speaker with an Eminence Texas Heat and it sounds great. Power tunes on mine are Psvane. Preamp tubeless are JJ except the first one is what looks like a NOS from a reputable brand (I think RCA but I don?t recall). I replaced a Hot Rod Deville III and am beyond satisfied.

Nice Amp!
Only played through amp. about 20 min. so far. Very nice tones from both channels. Solid build quality. Only gripe I have is amp. is pretty noisy when it is on the drive channel and your standing right in front of it. I backed up a few feet and was ok. For the price, I can't complain. I played some other similar sized amps at the music stores with comparable wattage which were more than double the price and wasn't too impressed.

Well worth the price I paid
Pleased with this amp awesome tube sound clean channel is very nice. Reverb nothing to brag about but it's there. Speaker is nice prefer v30s or greenbacks will eventually switch out. Takes pedals very well have not used the fx loop yet but I'm sure it's good. Would of been nice if it came with footswitch. All around happy for $357 plus tax well worth it.

Not functioning all the way
For the money you can't beat it,, But the one I got the reverb did not function,, With the warranty and contacting them they don't have the tube,, They said I could send it back but gave me no return authorization. So if you get one with a bade tube I would have to say you are on your own. Just so you know tubes are not easy to get and pricey for the good ones,,but just the power amp works great, But if you asked me do they stand behind this product I would have to say no,, It's probably the same reason why I can't get good Russian tubes because there's an embargo,, If you want to take a chance on Chinese tubes you can do that but I never had good luck with them

I would highly recommend this amp ! I would give it 10 stars if I could.
this amp is AWESOME ! the cleanest clean and I love the bright switch. the overdrive channel is sweet and smooth with deep bass that's never muddy. smooth transition from notes and beautiful break up of chords with plenty of sustain.

Great price, Great Build Quality, Great Amp!
This has been a great amp for me. I has great volume and sounds good cranked or at practice volume. The build quality is just as good as any fender amp I've owned in the past. I would buy it again.

Super cleans and great distortion
Had seen reviews of this on the web and they were all favorable so I ordered one. So glad I did.. In credible clean tones. LOVE the 6L6 tubes. The spring reverb is more than adequate for flavor. I run a Wampler Reflection though mine to get some serious shimmer and it works perfectly. Many have commented on the volume difference between the clean and distortion channels. Honestly, just dial it in with lots of gain and you will be fine. I is a SERIOUS distortion channel though. 80s hair rock style, almost a fuzz. Not my favorite but fun none the less. The stock speaker was fine but I upgraded with an old Texas Heat and the amp just bloomed. Takes pedals great whether through the front or the effects loop. The clean boost is great with humbuckers. I saw the price went up. Still worth it compared to what you could find in this price range. The master volume is great if, like me, you live in an apartment of duplex. I replaced a Marshall DSL 20 and have NO regrets.
