Re: STi12 2x2 Can I attach two microphones instead of a microphone and an instrument?
Paul R
on Dec 12, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Input 2 is not a microphone input; it's for a high-impedance instrument (guitar pickup) or line level. This input has much less gain than the mic input, and has no phantom power so a condenser microphone will not work plugged into input 2. If you plug in a dynamic microphone into input 2, it will work but it will be at a low level. It might work for a loud source such as close miked drums or a guitar cabinet.

There is a combo input that includes microphone xlr input, and the other input is 1/4” only. So, if you want to use a second mic, you’d have to convert it to 1/4”. Hope that is helpful.

Thanks Ryan. today we have two people talking on tutorials of streaming. We use low cost lavalier mics through a splitter (one Left and one Right). Its ok but control is limited. I think if I move up from my cheapo lavalier mics I would want to two XLR inputs to go with the new mics. Does that make sense?
For Two mic inputs, try something like the ix4b mixer which already has 2 mic inputs, usb recording and other useful features. Currently it’s the same price as this item.

To be more clear, to add a microphone you need a mic preamp on channel 2. An external mic preamp is available from about $50 or so or more.

Could this be used to digitize my vinyl records?
A shopper
on Mar 11, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Yes, but to get a stereo signal you must use the unbalanced PHONE input (which does not have a gain knob) on the back. The mic and instrument/line inputs are balanced mono inputs. Fortunately the phone input offers a wide dynamic range, so if desired you can adjust the gain of the vinyl rip via the software of your choosing.
Besides the USB interface you will need:
- Turntable
- Phono preamp with unbalanced RCA outputs
- Stereo RCA to 3.5mm (1/8”) TRS cable adapter
The quality of the above components (and things like the turntable’s swappable cartridge, use of a vinyl cleaning kit, condition of the vinyl) will highly influence the quality of your rip.
Note that all inputs are rated for 20Hz-20kHz (only the audible spectrum), so you likely will not capture hypersonic frequencies relevant to serious listeners of classical and other music with wind and string instruments. For that reason no more than a 48kHz sample rate is recommended to keep file size down.

If you have a turntable that does not have its own amplifier (by which I mean not a suitcase model that is popular at the local big box stores), it would likely work. But if it has an external speaker, it may interfere, since it would be going two amps.

Yes, since this is an analog to digital converter. I've not used mine to convert records, but Rolling Stone has an article ('How to digitze your vinyl records') from March 2020 that describes the process in detail.

Could this be hooked up to the Dt-4BT 60 watt speakers?
Nathaniel M
on Jun 26, 2021
BEST ANSWER: That combination should work just fine. For the best quality connection, you will need a pair of TRS audio cables to go from the line outputs on the back of the interface to the TRS jacks on the back of the left speaker on the DT-4BT.. That will give you a balanced connection for the best audio quality. Monoprice makes those in a range of lengths from 1.5 feet to 75 feet.

Input 2 is suitable for line and Hi-Z (electric guitar) sources.
There is also a stereo line level input on the back.
Odds are it will accept any analog signal you throw at it.

It is both. The input on the left is for a microphone and the input on the right is for guitar or other instrument. The left input will accept either a 3-pin XLR or a 1/4" TRS.

Does this support STEREO monitoring or just to one earphone?
A shopper
on Dec 10, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes the headphone output and the 1/4" left/right line outputs are a mono-to-stereo signal. In other words, each mono input (mic, line/instrument and phone) is split into the left and right channels. This is the default setting... it may be possible via USB to a computer to direct each mono signal to a left or right channel, but that would require advanced trial-error with appropriate drivers installed and possible custom CPU interface, so don't bet on it.

What cable do I need to connect this to 2017 Macbook Pro via usb? Simply the shown older usb output to usb-C?

BEST ANSWER: The interface has a USB-B connector. So you need a cable with that connector on one end and a USB-C connector on the other end. They're not as common as USB-A to USB-B but they exist. Or you could use a USB-A to USB-C adapter plus your USB-C cable, or a USB-C hub that has one or more USB-A ports.
Monoprice does not currently have the cable adapter I mentioned (only the opposite direction) but DOES have a suitable cable as well as hubs. You only need ONE of the suggested items, not all of them!

Horrible iOS latency, fair with PC
I purchased two of these interfaces. One was for my son in law (PC), and the other for me (iOS). Installed on a PC with the driver installed, the latency is fair with only nominal latency. When used with my 2021 iPad Pro, the latency was terrible, making the interface unusable for my purposes. Would not recommend to other or purchase again.

It?s a decent interface. I had to work around the controls to remove distortion.
The one this I don?t like is the fast that there is not a separate control for head phone.
Compared to my focusrite some of the controls doesn?t give you as much of the sturdy feel.
It?s an okay device especially for the price.

Perfectly functional. Missing a few features from more expensive interfaces but if all you're doing is plugging a microphone, headphones, and a guitar in like I am its perfectly fine.

Nice Unit for the Price (Doesn't seem to play nice with M1 Macs)
Other reviews already nicely summarize what this unit can do. Just want to share a few things:
Does not seem to work well with M1 Macs in Garageband. I tried recording a vocal and guitar simultaneously using the XLR and 1/4 inputs. However, the 1/4 line input kept recording into my Vocal track in addition to my guitar track. After repeatedly checking the input sources to make sure they were correct, it still happened. I tried the drivers on the product page, but my M1 Macbook Air kept telling me the drivers were incompatible.
Works perfectly fine with my old Macbook Pro from 2014, Macbook Air 2016, and iMac 2019.
I'm guessing the interface doesn't play nicely with M1 chip Macs.
If anyone else has a similar experience but found a fix, let me know!

Great Little Unit
I like the build, for what that's worth. I like the feel, for what that's worth. It does what it's supposed to do, and I have not yet experienced any problems. Great that it has a direct monitor feature so you can hear what you're doing without latency issues. I have used Scarlet and Tascam devices and this seems to mostly be the same. For the price it's great, and FANTASTIC if you get it on sale. ASIO driver plays nice with ASIO4All as one of multiple inputs in my DAW (Reaper). I found it difficult to find the drivers, being accustomed to getting such from a SUPPORT page, so note: The manual and driver files can be found on the product page toward the bottom when the "Description" tab is active, under the heading "Support Files" I haven't really taken a deep dive into noise and/or latency, but for amateurs like me that's not really something to worry about, especially at this price. I once read a review that said something that bears repeating: "You probably need to work more on your playing/singing than worry about the quality of your equipment." The only thing I DO NOT LIKE is that when they power off, e.g. when you turn off your computer, because they are powered by the USB interface, they issue a LOUD POP and if you haven't remembered to turn off your speakers first they will get a bit of a thrashing. Be forewarned.

Sampling Rates only 48kHz and 96kHz.
The sound card connected to the iMac without any problems. But there is one problem: the description says that the card works with Sampling Rates 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz, and 96kHz , but in fact only 48kHz and 96kHz. If someone knows how to solve the problem, please write.

Great Little Interface
I bought this to use with my Stageright LTM 500 Tube Mic and for recording my electric guitar. I'm not a professional by any means but so far I have been impressed with the combination for recording guitar and vocals in my simple home set-up. Great value too. It's great for recording vocals and your raw guitar signal to your DAW (I use Presonus Studio One) and then adding the DAW's effects, mixing and mastering capabilities.

Driver Issues, same as others.
There is very little information on this product either on this page or anywhere on the internet. However, I took a chance because I've always been very happy with other SR branded items. The problem is that not only are the drivers shoddy, the USB implementation is. There are a number of other similarly-priced USB audio interfaces out there which are 'class-compliant' meaning they will work on most systems without messing with drivers. This device has an incomplete implementation of this, which places the burden completely on the bundled drivers.
Gambling on this working vs the known-good implementation of alternative 2-channel USB interface devices carries a risk due to the MP return policy which no longer covers shipping.

Very well built. Solid knobs, buttons and switches. Have had for 3 weeks and have run it through multiple setups. Works very well and a great value too.
