Can I use this for my subwoofer by soldering regular 14 awg speaker wire to it?
New User U
on Jul 6, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Although you could use this end with 14awg, I would have to ask why not just order an RCA end designed to work with speaker wire. This end has a 1/4” dia opening designed for RG6 cable.

What's the maximum wire gauge these connectors will accept? E.g. you need to create RCA receiver connections using from 16 to 10 gauge speaker wire.

BEST ANSWER: I would say 14 AWG is the maximum for solid-core and/or stranded speaker wire that would fill that solder cup to maximum. [from Walter M WEGRZYN (Mesa, AZ)] on 07/21/2017!!!!

The video "says" the cable used is item #2747, but that is not the cable actually used in the video. Item #2747 is speaker wire. What cable is the one used in the video? It looks more like DMX or even microphone cable.

BEST ANSWER: Yes, you are correct, the cable mentioned in the video is not the 2747 cable.
This connector is designed to be used with standard RG6 cable, but the video shows a two conductor cable when wiring.
When using a single conductor RG6 cable, the single conductor will be soldered to the pin/positive, while the RG6 shielding is to be soldered to the ground/negative.

Is there a red marked version of this connector or a red collar included? When making stereo connections with L and R it's helpful to tell which cable is which. Thanks.

BEST ANSWER: There is only one version of this RCA Connector available. Unfortunately we do not have any alternate or different colored options available.

I am a bit confused how one solders the "black/ground" connection. A previous question mentioned you solder the foil/strands to that end but how exactly? The braid is circumferential, do you just solder one side of the wire, do you try to bundle up all the strands and solder that? What is the purpose of the 2 holes in the connector - the oval shaped one and above that the circular hole?

BEST ANSWER: Unbraid about 3/8" of the outer braid and twist the strands together. Strip the insulation from the inner connector wire for about 3/8". "Tin" the inner and outer conductors with a small amount of solder. Also tin the inner and outer connectors on the RCA plug, then solder the braid to the outer plug connector and the inner wire to the center plug connector. There are several YouTube clips on the internet that show the procedure. Be sure to use a small soldering iron (not a large "gun" and use rosin-core solder appropriate for electronics. Should work fine.

How does the RG6QS shielding get soldered on to the plug? Does the foil or strands need to be bundled together? There are also 2 holes near the bottom of the plug, an oval and round shaped one. What are these meant for? Video unclear.

Better than Parts Express
Good quality solder points and good hold when connected to my gear. Higher quality than comparable Parts Express rca plug. The Monoprice has a hole to solder the shield, whereas the Parts Express one does not. The shell and plug looks great and is more sturdy overall. I would love if they had a hollow/split tip version of this

Large cable RCA
This is the best connectors I've found for large cable RCA connections. I bought some a few years back and I'm kicking myself for not buying a full 10 pack. so I had to come back, Just for two connectors so I could work out a project that needed a decent quality RCA Break out so I could temporarily attach bear speaker wires into a terminal block.
