If you don't power it down, yes then, it appears to be on, even though there is no lamp output. We've chosen to breaker off the lights when not in use. They will hold their DMX channel when powered down.

We leave ours plugged in and 'on' all the time. The control is just with DMX. The light appears to turn all the way off when the DMX brightness is set to 0.

Can these lights be painted? If so, what is the recommended type of paint?
A shopper
on Oct 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Since minimal heat is generated from these lights I do not see why you couldn't. However, I would not recommend it unless you are able to completely disassemble the product in order to avoid over-spray on the electronics. I am not an expert on paint types so I will not make any recommendations there. I would consult a paint person.

I would recommend disassembling and powder coating, but I guess you could use a high-temp paint as long as you mask it off really good and don't mind fumes for a long time coming from the light.

Will we need one fixture on each side or a set of two fixtures on each side to light a podium for Imag and streaming? Podium will be 50' from light fixture. This is a one time, single night event. Thanks in advance

on Jul 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You should be able to get away with one fixture on each side. You will want to have the front light positioned about 45 degrees off to either side and about 45 degrees above the subject if possible. It would be a good idea to use a backlight as well to give separation between the subject and the background.

This fixture does take B style gobo holders. We have not used gobos yet, but are going to look at the Rosco printable gobos. They make special gobos for LED fixtures which run significantly cooler than traditional fixtures.

COB LED Start dying in 1 year of light use
I have purchased 8 devices January 2020. After a year of very light use (COVID 19 cuts number of the shows :)) one device starts blinking ~10-15% of it's lighting output: looks like part of COB LED matrix fails. Where to get COB LED replacement? Big question....

Really impressive for the price. Too many problems to make it a 5. Some have a noticeable blink when first turn on and tech can?t help. I also have one that is now outside warranty and tech can?t help that stays on at 10% even when DMX says off.

Yup! these are Awesome!
These are great! Cost, WOW! Brightness, WOW!. Ease of use and function, WOW!.
Seriously, we have been searching, for a couple years, for the best Leko for the lowest price and this is it. After a small test order we quickly found that these are, hands down, a better tool for our rental stock for these reasons:
1. these run on 200watts of power. i.e. 8 units + on a single circuit!
2. these are brighter than our 750watt lekos.
3. these don't have an exterior heat sink. The chassis is cool to touch when on and can be focused without burning your hands. YEAH! Finally.
Yes, the lens is a lenticular "plastic" lens. this helps keep the weight down.
Yes, this unit is BRIGHTER than our 750watt HPL/EHG lamps
NO, you wont burn your hands trying to focus it. The LED engine and power supply are housed inside the a metal chassis that is fan cooled and doesn't get too hot to touch.
The control is easy via the on board buttons for manual use or DMX addressing. Simple stand alone use!
Conclusion. We converted our rental stock to these. Love 'em. We have sold dozens to a local high school and large church. Very, very satisfied.
We will be buying more!

okay stage wash if you're on a budget and not touring with the light.
This light is great as a starter light if you cant afford the bigger name brands. Ive purchased 6 of these and ive had them for over 2 years so heres a few things to note;
The optics really suck. I'm not a lighting snob, but this is pretty bad, theres no way to get a crisp sharp edge on this light. even at its sharpest its still blurry. what this means is that your gobos will look horrible on the edges. even with a doughnut in place it doesn't help. I initially thought this was due to the fact that the lens that comes with the unit is all plastic event the actual lens element isn't actually glass but plastic. So i swapped it out for an ETC lens and it still was really blurry. so its only good for a stage wash. no gobos or crisp circles. Also the lens doesn't accept standard gel frames. the frame holder slot is extremely large and I've yet to find something that fits. second is the light output. I havent metered the draw yet but something tells me its not quite 200 watts as the light output leaves something to be desired, so youll need to purchase more units to get the coverage and intensity needed.
As far as durability. 50 percent of this light is plastic so I wouldn't take this light on tour. installs only. The U bracket knobs constantly break because they're made from a cheap plastic. the lens tube feels like a fall from the right distance would crack the housing. The rotating tube also plastic feels like its one turn from falling off. and lastly one of the 6 lights I have has died after two years. It turns off shortly after powering on. I've contacted Monoprice and since I'm out of warranty they cant help me. They don't sell parts and wont send me a replacement.
In closing this light is great for churches or venues on a budget that instal the light in a permanent position. Its served us for basic stage washes where crisp optics and fancy lighting weren't needed. otherwise look elsewhere.
In the photos attached I've compared it to a chauvet ovation ellipsoidal

Better than expected
Works great. No issues with either of the two units I bought. Even though the lens portion is plastic its surprisingly good focus for these cheap lens.
