Would there be a noticable jump in quality getting a dedicated bass amp like this one vs me using the 10" combo tube amp I already own which I bought here on Monoprice? Casual player.

BEST ANSWER: I like having two amps at home - both a full-size amp and a portable amp. (The Stage Right portable amp has a headphone jack. Another nice feature of this portable amp is to plug in and play the track I'm working on.) Sound quality for bass IMHO depends largely on volume - at higher volumes you will notice a bigger difference between any two amps.

I own both, I’ve been playing for over 55 years. Own a Henricksen bud (9”x9”x9”) $1600. Finest jazz amp in the world, pure and clean . I also own both the amps you have a question about. Get the bass amp for basses, the tube amp for tube amp (£ender)style. Two different animals . I own them both different sound on each!

This amp gives a bass gives good punch and has a good ring to it. The compressor works very well as well as the equaliztion. The only thing I don't like about this amp is that there is no line out. There is a headphone jack but it turns off the speaker.

The noticeable jump would be in eq control and overall definition.. I find tube amps harsh out with bass frequencies and can be difficult to control.. The magic button on this amp is the compressor - it tames those huge bass frequency waves.

It is a different beast:
voiced for bass and solid state.
I actually was surprised by the tone and volume.
If you play bass, I am pretty sure you will like this better than the tube amp.

Yes there will. At very low volumes the tube amp will sound fine but the crossover in the bass amp is designed to maximize the lower frequencies a bass produces.

They make dedicated bass amps for a reason, and if you are going to play with any kind of loudness at all, you will benefit from using an actual bass amp.

What are the dimensions in inches by Height, Width, and Depth?
New User U
on Aug 22, 2022
BEST ANSWER: 17" x 12". Probably metric, since it's a fraction of an inch smaller both ways. 16" tall. A great size for lugging around, and good sound for the size. The compressor doesn't do a lot for me, but it's there.

Can this be used with a Monoprice regular electric guitar? (not a bass guitar)
A shopper
on Apr 26, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes... but why would you want to? You can get the guitar amp for $30 less, and it has wider frequency range along with overdrive and a spring reverb... it's much more suited for the noises that a guitar will make.
There's a concern with trying to use a bass with a guitar amp because of the potential for overworking the amp. There's no such concern going the other way, but there's just no benefit to doing it.

Is the cabinet MDF or plywood?
New User U
on Dec 19, 2021
BEST ANSWER: I haven’t tried to peal back the Tolex Vinyl covering on this amp but based on it’s weight I’d estimate that it’s probably a combination of MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) and Veneer Plywood. Regardless, I sensed absolutely no rattling or vibration issues due to cranking this amp so I think that the amps overall construction is pretty good and very durable. It sounds great in a small studio setting and it definitely is suitable for small gigs or as a front of house on stage if you use the XLR outputs to a main system. The Stage Right Monoprice 40-Watt 1x10 Guitar Combo Amplifier is also a pretty good buy and value especially with a “real” spring reverb. Again, both amps are well constructed and they both sound great. Next purchase will probably be the Stage Right 15 Watt tube amp.

Will changing the volume of the amp also change the volume of the XLR output? Would like to know just in case I use it as a monitor.

BEST ANSWER: No, the XLR out comes off of the preamp. The volume knob only effects the the power amp running the speaker.

Stage Right by Monoprice 40W 10in Bass Combo Amp with Built-in Compressor and XLR DI Output

Monoprice 20-Watt 1x8 Practice Combo Bass Amplifier witth 3-band EQ and Headphone Output
Looking at the pictures the driver is attached to the front baffle with 2 wood screws straight into the wood and 2 T-nuts on the diagonal. Why on earth would you cut corners and not have all 4 be T-nuts? Couldn't cost more than $0.20 for 2 more T-nuts.

A Bargain
Much better amp than I expected. The Fender Rumble 40 has more features but isn't built as well and doesn't sound any better. And of course cost more than twice as much as the sale price of this amp. I even find it sounds pretty good as a pedal platform for my Telecaster. I'm new on the bass so I haven't really cranked it. As a practice amp it's perfect.

Great bargain for the buck
This is a very nice amp. One of it's strengths is the XLR/DI out, which you just cannot find on an amp at this price point. I've found you have to play with the settings to dial in your sound, but your rewarded with a nice punchy sound that is pretty cool.

I believe I created the only review of this amp on You Tube

Price/ performance ratio off the chart
Just attempt to obtain a 40W 10" speaker in a bass amp for under $300. The Stage Right also has a compression feature which is great for bass. As I am primarily a guitar player this feature is most welcome. Great sound, nice package and great price. It was delivered in extremely sturdy packaging. Monoprice comes through, again.
