it comes with a foot switch input jack but no foot switch. I tried to ask customer service and they became very cagey about an answer saying it might mislead people? What's going on? The jack on the back of the cabinet says fs1 so if they don't offer one they should at least recommend one. It must have been designed for one! I tried two different NEEWER switches but neither worked. I'll have to keep trying. The neewer had a nice little light. Any suggestions?

No, mine didn't, but any on/off switch with a 1/4 inch jack works and they are very inexpensive.
I own Vintage Marshalls, Traynors and hi-end boutique amps, and now 2 of these for playing in true stereo. Very sparkly 3-D sound you can only get with tubes.

The Amp has an input for a foot switch but does not come with one. You can purchase a Fender single button foot switch from Amazon that will work well. Also, the Fender Blues Jr. Amp covers fit perfectly.

It probably uses a simple on/off momentary contact switch - very cheap and easy to make.

I see that there is no "standby". Do you need to wait for the tubes to warm up before they work?
A shopper
on Mar 6, 2020
BEST ANSWER: You always have to wait for tunes to warm up. the standby switch doesn't have anything to do with that. The standby switch takes the tubes out of the signal path so that you can change guitars or something with any "popping" when you pull out the patch.
This is a great amp. Great value. I have several name brand amps. This one keeps up with them pretty well. Go ahead and buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Tubes do need time to 'warm up' to sound good. I normally wait for a couple minutes at least before plugging my guitar in. Also you will notice no sound for 30 seconds when you first power on. Not a problem as tubes need to heat up to start working.

Yes. Please note, however, that you would have to wait for the tubes to warm up with or without a standby switch. Once warmed up, you can go in and out of "standby" on an amp "with" a standby switch, without waiting for the tubes to warm up again.

True, and yes you do need to wait for the tubes to warm up, and the need to warm up gradually is important. I can't be certain but I think there is an internal circuit the allows the tubes to receive power incrementally.

Yes . . . Tubes need at least 30 seconds to warm up enough to function. 12AX7s and EL84s, being small tubes, warm up quickly so not having a standby circuit is not an inconvenience.

It's only set up to run on 110v. The power cord is not removable and there's no selector for different voltages on the back. The only way you might be able to get it to run out of a 220 volt supply would be to use a Variac, or get a new power transformer rated for your country, but that would almost cost as much as the amp itself. Hope I was helpful. :)

My son also plays bass, and I, too, tried to start him out on a starter amp that didn't do the trick. I traded him up to a 50W solid state amp - and that was JUST enough for him to practice with one other guitar and drums. I personally use the 15W Monoprice amp with a five-piece band and have NO TROUBLE keeping up with the other instruments (I play lead guitar), BUT, I wouldn't try to use this particular amp for a bass guitar. I do not think the circuitry will serve the bassist in any way that would be satisfactory, or long lasting! I would recommend a used Gallien-Krueger of some sort, or something similar!

This is my first tube amp. I play guitar through it, and I've got to say, it is very nice. For bass, it works. I just tried it and of course keep the gain down, but don't expect anything more than bedroom practice. But guitar, I think it could handle it's own on a club stage easily, and sound pretty sweet. For the price...for the options...for the quality of build and components...definently a winner. I wish I has started out with an amp like this 30 years ago when I started playing. Hope that helps.

For bass, no probably not. Bass frequencies require significantly more power than the mid frequency registers that the guitar typically occupies. While this amp is practice worthy for guitar, it likely wouldn’t solve your son’s issues on bass. For the most part, modern bass amps are often solid state, either completely but generally at least for the power amp, because solid state circuitry can produce the 200-2000w more reliably and efficiently that full size bass amps tend to need to be heard.

"keeping Up" is really relative to what he's trying to keep up with. This little gem will not be heard much above a loud drummer. But on a church stage, miked up to a PA it would be great, or in a small venue such as a coffee shop or even a small fellow ship hall (40 people) it would do fine. This also depends on the type of music to be played. The amp will be much louder if driven, that is to say with the gain cranked up :) It'll be louder than any 50 Watt solid state amp for sure. Good luck

It is an excellent sounding amp for a guitar. I don't know how well a bass guitar would sound through it. I'm probably the exception but the first amp failed after eight months of bedroom use. Monoprice did pay the shipping both ways on the replacement. Now the replacement has failed after about six weeks. I have not contacted them yet on it. They have a one-year warranty. A great sounding amp, but I can't speak for the quality.

I wouldn't hesitate to use this amp for double-duty guitar/bass practice at home -- in fact, I do just that. I also use it for bass in the studio. I would NOT use it for practice with a band, And I wouldn't let an electric bass anywhere near it on-stage. Fifteen watts is usually more than enough for guitar, but pushing it that hard with a bass will be asking for trouble. (thinking more about the speaker than the amp itself...)

I can't comment on this for bass, as I do not play that, but this is a fine starter to intermediate instrument for guitar. The 1W to 15W flexibility is a great feature, The tone is nice and warm and the reverb is a good spring reverb. The speaker is in amps 2 to 3 times the price. All my fellow players who try it come away impressed. You cannot go wrong for the price as you note.

I just checked my monoprice amp and it does the same thing. In my experience this is not normal for a guitar amp (I own 4 other amps and none of them operate this way). My guess is it’s a cost cutting way to insure the resistance load (ohms) is correct for the amp? There’s probably away to modify this but I’m not sure how.
You also should know that there is a fuse on this amp that is in the chassis and if it blows you have to take the chassis out and replace the fuse. I actually had an amp tech move the fuse access to the back of the chassis but that mod cost almost as much as the
Amp. I paid for it because I like the sound of the amp.

Yes, it is normal. Tube amps are sensitive to the speaker loads hooked up to them, so to keep it simple, many amps are wired to drop out the internal speaker when you use an extension.

I have experienced the same thing when I was using a cab simulator, to go direct to the board. Not sure why, but I think that’s normal. Maybe for the ohm load. IMHO

Yes, it's one of my favorite amps (I have several, including Fender and Marshall). It's my main amp for playing out because its relatively light (easy to transport), sounds great (it sounds REALLY good plugged into an external speaker cabinet) and it's quite loud (definitely loud enough!).
I just wish it had 2- channels.
If you're not in a hurry, wait for it to go on sale. I think I paid just over $200.
Good luck.

Mine indicates 16 ohms. There is a plug for an external 8-16 ohm cabinet. I am very pleased with this amp: it sounds great and it is both bedroom quiet and can be switched to 15 watts loud enough for band practice. Great classic rock tones.

The Tone knob does some VERY SUBTLE roll off/on of the highs. Don’t expect a huge swing in tone. But I have to say it adjusts just the amount the amp wants. I have seven amps from high-end boutique Italian to Mesa Rectoverb and Fenders and this little amp is now my favorite because it works so well with all my guitars. I use it on a clean setting and use a pedalboard for all my effects. This amp worked great for rehearsals with a live drummer. GREAT AMP!!

Not a whole lot. I do notice a slight increase in higher frequencies when turned full right, and a slight muting of the higher frequencies when turned full left. Sort of fine tuning of the overall EQ'ing using the bass, middle, and treble knobs. I did replace the no-name tubes with JJ EL84's and JJ 12AX7's. That helped the tone considerably.

It is an overall tone. All the way to the right the high ends are accentuated all the way to the left below end. You can also called a high-end cut like on a box amp. Also it could act almost as a presence knob. Enter an answer to this question.

Its kind of like a "presence" control you would find on some other amps. Its exactly as it implies, just an overall control almost like..brightness, but not a treble response. I keep mine at about 6, but that's just my preference.

As I understand it from the manual, you still adjust the bass middle and treble to your satisfaction and the tone knob is kind of a volume for the tones. I hope this helps and maybe monoprice could improve the manual.

The tone knob controls the amount of treble and bass added to the sound. The 12oclock position is neutral. Turned to the right increases treble, turned to the left of noon adds bass and reduces treble to the sound.

When the “Tone” knob is set at “5”, the tone is considered “flat”. Turn the knob clockwise to “brighten” the sound with higher frequencies, turn the knob clockwise to “darken” the sound with lower frequencies.

It is for USA 115-120 volt application. Just buy a european power strip converter to use in Europe and you'll be fine. I just played a theater gig in Atlanta with this on the 1 w setting through a vintage Marshall 4x10 cab. sounds sparkly, clean and excellent string definition. I'm not affiliated with the maker. Just giving you a heads up I get compliments on a strat or LP plugged directly into it. Been playing since 1980 in bands.

On the back, mine is marked for 110-120V 50/60 Hz. It looks like the manufacturer produces a 220-240V version, as there is a place to checkmark that, but mine is marked for US power. The cord is hard-wired into the unit.

Can I get a good clean tone from this amp?
A shopper
on Feb 25, 2023
BEST ANSWER: Yes you can, in my opinion. Keep in mind this is a real, 100% tube amp so it will always have a "tube character" sound. It is a really good amp for the price actually. Great for blues, classic rock, alt pop and such. But if you are looking for "crystal clear tone", or play amplified acoustic, I'd suggest to get a high power (100 watts) solid state amp, that would give you plenty of headroom for really clean tones.
