how do you make it your own?

BEST ANSWER: You "make it your own" by customizing it. Things like changing the pickups, pots, switch, tuners, pickguard, bridge, etc. Basically anything that will void the warranty. These guitars are good right out of the box, but they can always be made a little better.

Great beginner guitar
Ready to play out of the box. The intonation and action was spot on. I would recommend this guitar for someone with a limited budget buying a first time guitar. The gig bags that come with Indio guitars is a plus. They are better than any I've seen that come with guitars.

Ok budget guitar
Shipped quickly no damage. Quality good could not find any flaws Sounds good decent output from pickups, after stretching strings stays in tune ok. Tone pot does very little to change tone, eq on amp works fine. I am satisfied good neck, unusual headstock but I kinda like it.--

WOWZERS!
Ok. This is a 100.00 guitar. So what does that mean exactly? Cheap? inferior materials? inferior play-ability? NOPE!!! It means that finally there is a company that 'gets it' for guitar modders and up and coming luthiers. I will be uploading a video showing exactly how much work I had to put in to this guitar to have it dialed in. I didnt even have an hour and the guitar is now set up to exacting specs, stays in tune......and the best part; I have ZERO interest in upgrading anything. Yes, the fret ends were beyond sharp, but that takes under 5 minutes to fix. This is the new modding platform and I am going to make sure people hear about it. BEYOND impressed, Monoprice. Thank you for being aware of the modders market and addressing it so.

PIctures of amazing instrument!
I couldn't figure out how to update my other review of this guitar so I'm posting another to show you all how good the packaging and quality really is. I know for me I couldn't believe the reviews until i finally had one of these in my hands. Truly amazing instrument. The only issue i had (which is a non issue for me) is that the fret ends are a bit unfinished. But for me I ALWAYS do a setup and fret file on all my new guitars. A-lot of players just do it as part of their individual setup, and the longer you play the more comfortable you get doing your own guitar work. I actually enjoy doing the fret work. It really is needed on almost all guitars, even the high dollar ones. That being said I am very very happy with this guitar. It has a 9.5 radius so it will feel very familiar to most players. Out of the box the action was pretty close. Definitely playable right away. I might lower it just a touch, but it was great anyway. The intonation was almost spot on. I checked it with my tuner that is just for that purpose. They are only about 30$ to get something that will give accurate to the 1 cent values. It was almost perfect. Again playable right away. The strings I believe are light D'Addario. Or at least they feel like them. The tuners are a bit of a weak link but again I usually always buy machine heads for all my new guitars. I have some favorites in the bargain range. Musiclilly pro tuners are under 20$, but for this I got the very decent for the price Wilkinson closed tulip button 19:1 ratio tuners. just under 30$ Usually on inexpensive guitars you get 14:1 or 15:1 ratio tuners and I just don't care for them, however these do stay in tune reasonably well once the strings got worked in. I really like the fit and finish of the guitar. The neck is wonderful, thin and very very fast. The fret-board looks like rosewood, but maybe just a bit darker. The inlays look surprisingly good as well. The pickups are just your average ceramic humbuckers. I am dropping in P90 pickups in because I prefer the clarity of tone on single coils better. But again they arent horrible. I wanted to show you all the un-boxing pictures because I think a-lot of you will be surprised in the packaging and the overall image of what you are getting for around 100$ It is an insane value and If I had access to instruments of this quality and price when I was younger.....only if! I have some friends that i gig with and they all would snicker at me for my guitar choices, UNTIL they feel stupid for laughing at me when they get their hands on them. The Monoprice gear is solid. I'm going to use mine to gig with. They look great, play great and If some idiot trips over it and breaks it I'm not out a fortune. Here are the un-boxing pics!!
I really think that you all should consider giving one of the Monoprice guitars a try. I bought one after a friend showed me his. I would have to say its about like a 400$ instrument in quality. With a few small tweaks it becomes a really great axe. Nice big cavity to do all your tone mods etc. Fits standard LP style parts. I've had it a few days and I just cant put it down. I ordered all my parts for modding it, tone caps, switches etc and I just cant wait to install them!!! GET ONE!

Indio 66
Never forget this is a $100.00 (special offer) guitar with free delivery.
That said, this guitar plays and sounds really good. Fantastic for beginner players! Does it sound as good as my American made Fenders or '70's era Ibanez Les Paul copy? No! Are those guitars 10 or 15 times better. No, especially not to newbies. If you know a novice who wants an inexpensive electric guitar, I recommend you try an Indio 66; or any of Monoprice's budget guitars. I own several and just ordered another one!

Neck Issue
Cons: The neck on the guitar was not mounted correctly. It was at an angle which caused the high "e" string to be too close to the edge of the neck. This made it difficult to play this string because my fingers would cause it to slide off the side of the neck. This guitar was the very last black one. I only wanted the black color so I decided to reset the neck by carefully removing the paint and a small amount of wood. Then I drilled four new holes so the neck would be properly aligned. The other problem I had was the intonation was off. I don't know if it was because I reset the neck or if it was like that when I received the guitar. The bridge is mounted too far back on the guitar for me to correct the intonation 100% on all six strings.Pros: The finish on the fret board, neck, and body are immaculate! It is a beautiful instrument! The guitar is well-balanced and has great tone and sustain because of the wood and the strings going through the body. The action is very good and I really like the sound of the pickups. The volume and tone knobs work well and the tuners are satisfactory. For $75, I still think it was a great deal.

excellent for the price
Look, this is a budget, beginner oriented guitar. Having said that, its beautiful to look at, is reasonably set up out of the box and plays pretty well. The price was almost ridiculously low considering it also includes rather nice gig bag.

A great dual humbucker guitar!
I’ve been doing A B C between this guitar, my PRS SE, and Epiphone LP Standard. It might come in 3rd, but not by much, and for the price...it wins! I really enjoy playing it, and will keep it for sure! Crazy what you get for the price.

The three on the right compare favorably to each other. It holds it’s on!

Ridiculously good value
To be honest, I thought I was buying this guitar to strip for parts. I build electric guitars as a hobby, and throught that the body and neck alone were worth the $75 (including shipping!) that I paid. But, when the guitar arrived I threw that plan out the window. It is absolutely amazing that they sell this instrument at this price. The darn gig bag alone would sell for $20 retail. The shipping would be $15 from UPS. I don't understand. But I also don't care! I may get around to changing out the pots or pickups if I feel like it, but for now I love this thing just as it is. The neck is better that any I've seen on a $250 guitar, let alone a $75 dollar guitar. Smooth and sealed but unfinished maple. Fast to play. Well dressed medium jumbo frets. Oh, and that unusual headstock? Straight-through string pull - tiny sideways angle angle, no binding at the nut. (The string spread is the #1 complaint about LP and SG giuitars.) Tuners are more than acceptable. The pickups, bridge, switches and pots all work well. Remarkably, the guitar was setup so well that the only adjustment I had to make was the intonation on one string... and just a minor tweak. The strings are a generic .010 set, and I may replace them with a .009 - in that case the truss rod might need a turn, because the relief is already close to minimum. We'll see. Oh, and lastly... strong output, and it sounds remarkably good! And did I mention $75 including the gig bag and shipping? That's just silly. 5 Stars.
