Will the Guitar come with an Amp Cable or no?
A shopper
on Sep 11, 2021
BEST ANSWER: No. It does however come with wrenches to adjust the truss rod in the neck and the string saddles on the rear bridge. There is also a tremolo bar that screws into the rear bridge for those deep bends and vibrato effects. This is a good beginner guitar if set up properly.

No cable. FYI, Amp Cables are for amplifier to speaker cabinet connection. You want an Instrument Cable, which is for guitar to amplifier connection. Monoprice does sell Guitar Instrument Cables at a very good price. Get at least a 10' Instrument Cable.

The finish is as you see it, so it's hard to tell what's under the white coat. The neck seems to be pretty nice wood. Overall, the guitar is about what you might expect for this low a price.. Don't get your hopes up. I sent the first one back, and the second is only sitting here because I didn't want to go through the return process again. I had it professionally set up by a luthier, so it is playable, but nothing to get too excited about.

Yes, this has a wood body.
The cavity under the pickguard is HUGE too. You can easily go from SSS to HSS (or whatever other config). I put a loaded pickguard from a Fender American standard into one of this with only minor trimming needed on the guard.
Quality is pretty good for the money. A great beginner's guitar or or someone who intends on modding.

I was asking the wood specie (found out it's basswood). Have you weighed it? I would find that info useful, as well. Thanx!

Yep, lightweight Basswood for the body. Tone wise it sounds great. The neck is maple, and probably the BEST feature of this guitar. Nice grain figuring, rolled edge. The fretwork was very good. They were level and have beveled ends.

If you are asking if the body is wood or plywood- it is real wood. Not sure of the type, but I would wager it is basswood (possible alder). These are solid guitars.

Has anyone done a tuner upgrade? I bought one before the Indio branding and the tuners held up. I bought an Indio Tele and after a month the tuners will not hold. At all. Please let me know what brand and model to buy for a solution to my problem. I heard Wilkinson's were good but would like to know which ones or which brand from someone who was successful. Thanks!

I replaced the tuners on my Strat version with these: Wilkinson 6 Inline Chrome E-Z LOK Post Guitar Tuners EZ Post Guitar Tuning Keys Pegs Guitar Machine Heads for Strat Tele
They were direct drop ins for the stock tuners, easy to replace. There is a Youtube video on how to install them as well. Hope this helps!

Are the necks on all the Cali Classics the same shape (obvious some are rosewood and others maple)? The white one I just received has a pretty thick neck (Almost a thicker U), but a reviewer for the blue version notes a very thin neck. I'd prefer a Modern C neck like on the DLX and was wondering if a different color would give me that.

I took a chance and ordered a Sunburst as my first Monoprice guitar. I'm so happy with it, and I must say that it has about the very best neck size and shape I've ever played. I am hedging about buying a White one because I'm afraid the neck won't have that same feel. Hope that returning it if it doesn't is not a problem, because I want to be as happy as I was with the Sunburst.

BEST ANSWER: The pickguard is cut for SSS, but under it, the body is routed for anything you want. You can get a pickguard prewired for HSS that will almost drop right in. You might have to make a few adjustments to get it to fit in just right, but it's all easy to do. The Indio Cali Classic is purposely made as a base unit to modify. You can even get humbucker pickups designed to fit the cutout for a Fender single coil pickup. The humbucking coils are vertically stacked. I have two of them, and have made many mods to them. Most Fender parts fit just fine.

Does anybody know what type or size for the bridge/saddle screws? I'll like to get some replacements as I lowered the action, but need to know the diameter/type.
I suspect they might equivalent to saddle/bridge height screws available elsewhere that are M3 threaded size and 10mm high/tall, so I am thinking of getting M3's that are 8mm. If possible, let me know what size and type they are. Thanks.

Hope yours experience is better than mine.
The guitar I received had very poor finishing in the neck pocket, tremolo cavity on the back and under the pick guard. The neck pocket was so poorly done that it required shims to make the guitar playable. The fret ends were very sharp and the frets themselves were poorly finished. 2 of the 6 tuners will need to be replaced. Intonation was way off, and action was too high. As guitars go, it's a DUD!
I reported these issues to Monoprice and requested that they reimburse me for the cost of replacing the tuners, which they initially did. They also offered to replace the guitar (currently out of stock) which I had accepted, but they would not send me a return label until they had more guitars in stock. I changed my mind and opted to make repairs myself, however now Monoprice has refused to honour their agreement to pay for replacement tuners.
I am extremely disappointed in the level of customer service I have received; it is clear they do not care.

Great Strat for the price!
Very happy with this guitar! Unbelievable quality for the price. You can't go wrong. After I had it professionally set up by my Luthier it plays like a $2000. guitar. Sounds just like a Strat should too. I loved it so much I just bought one of their vintage Telecasters! It arrives tomorrow. I can't wait. Sounds great out of My Fender 40.

Impressed
Wow, I am completely blown away with the quality of this guitar. The setup out of the box was great, action was low and the intonation was close. I was expecting to have to do some fret sprout sanding but was shocked to find the guitar didn't need it. The neck on mine is thicker than I expected and feels like a Player series Fender neck to me. The pots feel tight and the 5 way switch feels about the right amount of stiffness. I bought the white Cali Classic and the white pickguard has a black outline and looks good. The pickups sound as good or better than my basic squier strat. The tuners feel fine. Thanks Monoprice!

Great guitar at any price
This guitar is wonderful regardless of price. I just bought one of the newly updated (2021) Squire Affinity Blonde Stratocasters with a maple neck for $260. This Indio Monoprice looks, feels, and sounds the same. The necks on both are very similar. They are chunkier necks than the original Affinity Series. Both necks also have a satin finish on the back. There is no skunk stripe however on the Indio. I am considering selling my new Squire Affinity on eBay and keeping this one. I have been playing for 20+ years and this guitar is a steal. It came setup perfectly with no imperfections in the paint or neck. The tremolo bar was missing from the box however. But I do not use this, so no harm there. I would say the tuners and bridge are better on the Squire. But overall very happy with the Indio Monoprice Stratocaster.

Great Deal. Great guitar and some upgrades.
Love the guitar. Fantastic deal.
But, being and inexpensive guitar it did need some upgrades.
The good:
The neck is awesome. Nice fretwork and beveled edge.
The basswood body is pretty lightweight (in a good way).
The just OK:
The plastic nut does the job, but bone would be better.
The tuners were barely adequate. I replaced them with real standard Gotoh tuners for $28.
The pots and switches functioned OK, but I replaced the pots with CTS and the 5 way switch with a Fender CRL switch. I had these parts on hand, and it was not actually necessary to replace them, so I am not including their costs.
The Bad:
The stock tremolo bridge is unacceptable. The block had no weight to it and the bridge was sticking / hanging up when using the trem. The springs were the wrong tension (too strong). I ended up using a real Fender vintage bridge, The rout in the body was not big enough to accommodate the full sized trem block, so I used a Squire trem block and arm. I did have to roto zip out a notch in the body rout (about 3/4"). The Squire trem block was not as heavy as the full sized block, but it is about 5 times the weight of the stock block. Amazing difference! The Fender vintage saddles are way better. I used real Fender springs and claw and bridge screws as well. The action is smooth, tuning stays in tune. Parts came to about $50 total.
The pickups were very thin sounding. I replaced them with Wilkinson Low Guass ceramic pickups $27. Really good sounding pickups for the price.
Costs:
Guitar with free shipping plus tax $115.
Parts for upgrades, $110.
Total $225
This guitar is now every bit as good as a Squire Classic Vibe Strat that costs $475.
I am thrilled with the guitar. For me, it was well worth the investment to upgrade it.
