After receiving this mini Indio and going through a basic setup on it, it plays very nicely, looks sharp (great finish), and sounds great as well...for the price, I don't think this can be beat.
I've set up a few "mini" Fender Strat Squier guitars (they price out at $150-$200 new) and I'd place the Indio above the mini Squiers as far as quality is concerned. The body is somewhat thicker/heavier duty, the trem block is slightly nicer, and the pickups are definitely satisfactory. With Chinese-made guitars your results may vary, but so far I've purchased 3 Indio guitars (two full-size HSS models) plus this one, none of them needed all that much work to get them playing nicely and sounding good.
For basic setup (tuning, string height adjustments, etc.), not much needed to be done in order to make this little guitar a pleasure to play. It was nearly in tune from the factory and only some slight adjustments were needed on the trem to finish off tuning. I lowered the action somewhat from the factory setup, overall it didn't take long and the guitar does hold tune well. Just make sure you graphite up the nut and check for binding/fret buzz once you make adjustments. Great little guitar for a younger beginner (I bought it for my 10-yr old son) at a minimum investment. Very nice finish, no burrs on the neck (frets were already rounded/sanded down flush with the edges of the neck), and a very playable guitar out-of-the-box. The pickups are fairly loud and produce plenty of sound. No reason to spend a fortune upgrading this one unless you absolutely must have high-priced electronics to be happy with any strat-style guitar. A great buy and I would definitely recommend for younger beginners who won't be ready for a more expensive guitar until they're set and serious on mastering the instrument.
This Little Guitar is Beautiful, The Pick-Ups sound Fine, but The Intonation, String Height and Staying in Tune is Awful. I have bought several Guitars from Monoprice and with good to Great results, being that said, most all guitars need a fine Set-Up to fit the player, but this Guitar must have Missed the Set-Up process altogether. I bought this guitar for my Grandson as a Christmas Present, but the Set-Up was so bad Its not going to him for a Christmas present. So I purchased a Ukelele for his Christmas, and Its Awesome. I will Set the Guitar Up myself. I been Playing for over Fifty Years and Know how to properly Set a Guitar. I like the Guitar, Its a Great size for Little Ones or for Practice or Travel. I am Disappointed that it arrived unplayable. This is not the norm from Monoprice. But like any Product some lemons slip through time to time and This Time I got one, But It will be Fixed, and a great little guitar.
The setup was not perfect.Strings were too high from the fret board. After adjusting the trust rod, it is much better.Overall, it's a great guitar. It sounds great. It's very compact and the finish is beautiful.I use it as a backup guitar in small gigs.
