Why no pick guard? That would really make this guitar, I dig it anyway and am going to get one, but pick guard would be nice.

BEST ANSWER: I imagine Monoprice decided the pickguard was a good part to leave off in the battle with Gibson over copyright
If you want one, look at amazon or Wish. They are inexpensive and easy to install.

This is an excellent guitar. I really like the one I bought.
You can get pickguard material from Amazon or “Stewmac” and create your own. Kinda put your own signature on it.

What kind of pickups come in the guitar ?
Warren K
on May 7, 2022
BEST ANSWER: They come with ceramic pickups that sound good with more output than regular paf type. I think my clocked in at 9.5 in the neck and around 11 in the bridge. Don't think I'll be replacing mine, they sound good.

Cheap Chinese humbuckers, but they sound OK. I replaced mine with GFS Retro-Trons, they sound much better!

Is the C neck profile similar to early 60s "Slim Taper" (which I love), or more of a chunky baseball bat feel (which I hate)?
Jim Lenzmeier L
on Aug 11, 2022
BEST ANSWER: It doesn't seem too chunky to me---Maybe in the middle between 60's slim taper and 50's fat---My hands aren't big but guitar was comfortable for me to play and the fit and finish was great!

Are the pickups alnico and are they four conductor pickups?
New User U
on Jul 30, 2022
BEST ANSWER: I haven’t pulled the humbuckers but the sound is warm and hot and handles distortion well. Alnico magnets most likely. As war as splitting or tapping I don’t think it’s worth it.

What kind of pickups are in the 66 DLX Plus? Are they still Alnico 5 humbuckers like they were in 2020 when I bought my Goldtop or has it changed to something else?

Great out of the box, amazing after setup and mods.
I have several LP-style guitars, but this one is the best feeling one with the best fit and finish. Absolutely beautiful! One bit of shipping damage- The top tuning keys were bent. The tuner button's color choice is a bit questionable as well- they look more "toxic waste" rather than "vintage" -colored
Although the guitar needed no modifications, I prefer the ability to be able to split coils on the pickups, (stock pickups are two conductor) so I put in a set of the well regarded Donlis alnico 2 PAFs and an Epiphone coil split wiring harness. I also added a cheap Fakenberg tremolo arm and a roller bridge, just to try it out. It's staying!
The fact that it came with a decent embroidered gig bag at this price is amazing. I believe it kept the shipping damage down to just a bent tuner instead of something much worse.
Attached photos show the guitar after the changes, along with my modded Cali Classic.

Happy with the 66 DLX Plus
A beautiful guitar at a great price. The gig bag is also the best in the business.

Great quality and budget friendly guitar.
Great budget guitar. I am very happy with fit and finish of the entire guitar, body finish, neck and body bindings, fretboard and inlays all look fine. I am also impressed with the setup of the guitar and the playability as shipped, no issues with hardware or electronics.

too "neady"
I'm an experienced musician and technician and find this model to be very "needy". It requires a lot of tweaking and adjusting. I hope it finally settles in. It seems to have "good bones" but is not suitable for a beginner without someone experienced to adjust it on a frequent basis. Your bolt on neck models are great. Easy to adjust and requiring little maintenance. In my opinion the Asian replicas of higher end American guitars are a little above their ability

66 DLX Plus Electric Guitar
The neck on this guitar is a little too fat for me. I like necks that are a little thinner. The guitar though sounds great.

No issues and beautiful
This is 3rd guitar in one month and Monoprice keeps surprising me in a good way. I have been shying away from copies and only after reading lots of good reviews about Indio brand took a chance with Cali DLX first, not because I wanted a Strat, but just was curious how it compares side by side with the real one. And I was not disappointed. I sold my ES-335 a few years ago so next I bought the Boardwalk semi hollow version and it was great too. This 66 DLX had some not so good reviews recently but mine came in perfect condition. It looks beautiful and played nicely out of the box w/o any settings, no buzzing or other issues. No one has dared so far to play it side by side with Gibson LP Standard on Youtube, may be I should give it a try because I really enjoy everything about this guitar. It is a buy.
