Is the light able to stand on a table or desk using the clip as a base? Some on Amazon claim to be able to do so but the Monoprice units are likely of better quality.

Yes. I just tried it. The light is top-heavy; in order to stand erect on a table or desk, the upper lamp part will need to be approximately centered over the clip/base. The top-heavy aspect of this light doesn't make an optimal table lamp option, but it will do it. It'll be somewhat easy to knock over. If you put some mass in the clip, it'll be more stable.

The base is pretty light weight but it might work if the lights are are not too far off center. The clip opens more than an inch wide so you could clip it to a table that is an inch or less thick. Another idea would be to lay a small note pad on the table and clip it to that for stability and weight.

It is capable of sitting on a desk using its clip as a base, but it is best used clipped to something. Without the weight of the light hanging down it rotates at the connection point with the clip and has to be balanced carefully to be used by sitting flat on a table.

You could balance it to do that, but it's not going to want to stay up. You could easily clamp it to a book cover, or something sitting flat. Or, use some velcro, or ???

It is not designed as a free-standing light, but if balanced properly on the clip, it can be used that way.

Can someone confirm that the clip only opens to 5/8" wide, as per the description? That's waaaay smaller than other similar clip-on lights. If it does, in fact, open wider, please indicate how wide. Thanks!

BEST ANSWER: The front of clamp opens up to approx. 2", however, the back end of the clamp gap is approx. 5/8". It is ideal for a 5/8" board, even if clamped vertically (it has rubber pads on both lips or inside walls). but should also hold horizontally firm to a 3"/4" board..

As I answered Terence, I'd be clipping this onto the top of my lever harp, which is 1.5" wide. Plus, it'd only have 5/8" grip before the clip would hit the tuning pins. In addition, I'd crank the light down one side of the harp to illuminate my strings, so there'd be some torque there, due to the weight of the lamp head. I'm thinking it might still work, as long as the rubber grips are good and the clamp is sturdy enough.

I should also let you know that I purchased the Monoprice Sheet Music Stand Product # 602410 at the same time. If you need one, it is very well built and a great deal. The light works great with it.

Hi Brad - Sorry it took so long for me to reply. I didn't see your answers until just now. I was looking at this unit to clip onto the top of my smallish lever harp. I play therapeutically at the bedside at a few nursing homes and the rooms are often quite dark, making the strings hard to see. While mulling over whether to chance it or not, my husband came home with a couple of squarish hanging lights from a dollar store and one of those worked out rather well (I hung it from a small rubber band wrapped around a couple of the tuning pegs on the off side of my harp, pointing downwards). It may not look terribly professional, but it does the job and I can fit it in my well-stuffed backpack that's attached to my harp cart. I'm not sure how I would've fit the Orchestra light or if I could leave it on my harp while I'm moving from room to room. It may well do a better job, but I'm also not sure how lovely it would look protruding from the top of my harp. I appreciate your thoughts on this, but least for the time being, I'm going to stick with the cheapy light. I'll keep the Stage Right in the back of my mind for possible future reconsideration. Thank you and Happy New Year! -Donna
Fully open at it's widest end it will open to about 1.5"
But if you want the top and bottom to more or less parallel then you are limited to about 5/8"

What about replacement bulbs?

I have been using the blister case the unit came with. It takes a bit of twisting to get everything back in, but the case protects the light and keeps it from turning on in travel.

What light color please? 3000K, 4000K, 5000K? (Warm, cool white or day white)

BEST ANSWER: Hi I don’t know if it’s a 3000k, 4000k or 5000k. But it’s simply awesome. I’m a professional musician with 46 years under my belt. I need to get led light for a musical I was playing on stage. This light worked great. It’s was bright!!! And you can go to a softer light. I’ve had every kind of light but this one is prefect. I got 8 more for my church band. Everyone liked them.
I’m going to order 24 more for my 18pc big band. Remember you get the power supply with. One light can light up 4 pages of music. I’m very happy with it. I think you’ll be too.

good but heavy
I like the light, works well, but what they don't tell you is that it is heavy. With batteries it weighs 12.3 Oz. It is too heavy for my music stand, which wants to tip over or collapse, and it's a decent stand, not cheap. So don't get this unless you have a heavy-duty stand.

Provides light, clips on the stand
The higher setting is just about the right amount of light for reading in the dark. The clip holds onto the stand. I don't have it long enough to know how it is on battery life, but I didn't want another recharging cord in my life.

Great stand light
Good points:
1. Two light brightness settings
2. The color of the light
3. Firm clamp
Bad point:
1. Fairly large and can get in the way of seeing the conductor
Overall: Highly recommend - I was able to clamp it to the side of the music stand to avoid the one bad point.

Great light but clip issue
Great LED light, bright and compact, but the clip does not hold on the horizontal edge of the desk top which is 1.75" wide. May be OK for wider surfaces and music sheet stands. I bough it to light the laptop keyboard at night and had to figure how to keep it stable.

bright, even light
Having tried many stand lights over the decades, this is by far the widest, most even light I've seen. It's bright enough to see the music, and that's the whole point, right? My only suggestion is that they make it more portable somehow. It's difficult to pack in my gig bag, and I worry about damaging it among all my trumpet stands, mutes, and water bottle.
