Do these panels significantly produce the amount of sound that travels through a wall? I'm building a shed to house a super loud generator.

BEST ANSWER: They work very well. Using the different shapes available, staggering shape/direction will add to the effectiveness. However, for low frequency, bass traps not only work better, but the noise coefficient is even across the spectrum.

There are for reducing reflected sound. I don't think they would do much to stop transmitted sound as you are describing. You would need some acoustic sound blankets for that.

Can you place them randomly throughout a large room or are they required to be installed as per instructions? For example, if I were to place them under & behind furniture, will they collectively make a difference in sound reflecting from my tile floors and expansive glass walls?

They do the job
When I installed these, I began to notice the damping difference. I do plan to buy more.

Thin and flimsy
These foam pads are so thin I could hold them up to a light and some of the light would come through! How do you think this will work with sound waves? It wont. Avoid these cheap foam pads.
