Not 100% on measurement, but by memory about 4" or 5". I have 2 acoustic, 1 bass and 1 electric guitar in this rack "no cases" and it's maxed out. Maybe a soft gig bag can fit but definitely not a hard case.

There's 2-1/2 inches (62mm) clear between the foam on the upper supports. If you remove the foam then there's 3-1/8 inches (80mm) clear width between the steel rods.

If you removed every other peg, sure...but they are too narrow to do that " as is" best of luck!

Roughly 3 inches of space between each peg. A case would not fit.

What is the purpose of the two foam rings above the rear feet? They don't seem to protect anything and I can't figure what their function is.

They go under the bottom part of the top rack when opened to prevent metal to metal contact...as padding. Not absolutely needed but, why not?

Your guitars sit on these pads, what you call foam rings,, sideways, and lean back..the necks fit into the padded "slots" at the top.

Mine also came with foam rings which seem to be intended to pinch between the bottom and top rack when opened. However this doesn't seem functional and they seem to do better to help cushion the rear feet. I will probably just take them off and keep them in the garage though.
They go directly under the vertical tubes to cushion and stabilize the unit.

I was interested in purchasing this item, but when adding this item to the cart, the standard 3-5 day shipping cost to New Jersey is show as $52.86, double the cost of the item. Why is the freight so much?

As of 9/7/2018, it still costs $50.54 to ship this guitar stand to Chicago. Outrageous! It can't weight more than five pounds.... I'm better off going with $50 stand from a retailer that has free shipping.

The $52.86 is just crazy! On November 30, 2017 I ordered this stand along with a couple of El Nino 300 blenders and six guitar straps and the freight was $42.85. I put just the stand in my cart today and the freight charge was $50.54.
I'd call customer service and ask them why the freight is so high. Monoprice customer service is among the best. You may not like the answer they give but you can be certain they aren't blowing smoke. Good luck!

I don't know for sure either way but bought this anyway and used an old t-shirt to cut up and cover where I keep my Fender P bass with a nitro finish. Yeah, its a little extra work but for me, for the price, it was worth it

I don't see there would be any issues. The guitars will not be in contact with any metal parts; it is covered in mostly foam and other soft materials.

Really want to purchase this guitar stand, but the standard shipping to my address in New York state is over $50. I've tried contacting support with no response. Love Monoprice, but I think there must be something wrong with the shipping on this item. Has anyone been able to purchase this with a reasonable shipping price?

Works as advertised. Wish there was a little more space as guitars will sometimes bang into one another as they sit fairly close in the rack.

great value, keeps instruments handy
I like to keep my guitars close at hand, so that I'm more likely to play them. This stand was very reasonably priced, and I wasn't sure that it would do the job adequately. I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of setup, and sturdiness of this stand. Now I can keep them within arms reach for quick jam session starts or practice. Worries about pets or clumsy humans knocking them over have been alleviated.

This is the one you want
It's perfect. I should've gotten a bigger one. Next time! If you've been asking or shopping for one of these, this is the one you need to get. You shan't be disappointed, whatsoever. It's a sinch to assemble, holds fast and tight. The instruments are housed properly, neatly and I can get to work on them one after the other knowing which one came first, in order. I love this. It's a great new must have for musicians, techs, luthiers, collectors. Five stars.

Awesome stand for the price!
Works great for an inexpensive multi-guitar stand. I bought it specifically for a gig I had and it was solid and held my guitars just like I would want it to. It certainly isn't the highest quality stand you can buy which is why I decided to drop 1 star, but it certainly can't be beat for the price and I would certainly buy it again!
