Will this cable work on a MAC using OS 10.15.7 to extend the screen to a view sonic monitor?

BEST ANSWER: No Mac systems natively use full-size DisplayPort to connect to monitors. If you have an older non-USB-C/TB3 Mac, you can use the Mini-DisplayPort to VGA cable, or else the USB-C VGA adapter, and a VGA to VGA cable will work for newer systems

The usage I have in mind is opposite what is described. My docking station has a VGA output, but my new monitor has only a full size Display Port input. Will this work in that usage?

This would only allow for video from the DisplayPort connection to go to a VGA monitor so this cant work in the setup you described.

Better solution than small adapter
This cable did what it was supposed to do. This was a better choice for us than the small rigid adapter which needs more clearance in the back of the machine.
