Definitely stranded. If they were solid they would be inflexible.

I'm sure that they are stranded, otherwise it wouldn't bend.

What is the best use of this cable? Can you give specific examples please? Where does this cable work best over thinner ones? Thank you.

BEST ANSWER: As it's written in the description, this cable is pretty thick for mobile use. I bought this to use in my car to connect my hi-res digital audio player (Fiio X7 is of them) to my high end car multimedia unit (Kenwood) without losing audio quality. Difference of the sound quality is huge between this cable and a thinner one. I hear all the details of the lossless audio. Sound has more body, fuller, richer and bass is thicker. Of course this cable is not adding anything to the quality, it is only removing the restriction of a thin cable and allows all the electrons flow to your unit. This thick 3.5mm audio cable will complete your high end audio path from source to the end or from one source to another. Good cable makes a lot of difference.

I purchased this 3ft cable for use in my car because I wanted one that was sturdy and I could be confident would not break. But oh my. You could ~easily~ kill a man with this and find no detectable wear on the cable. An absolute Unit if I've ever seen one.
So my best guess would be if you needed a cable for audio equipment backstage that you needed to handle being rolled over, or tugged on, or even surviving a few snips of a bolt cutter. I really can't find a good use for this other than that (way too heavy), but I won't criticize a product for being overbuilt. I'd just buy a thinner one and enjoy life. Hope that helped!

Can I use this cable outdoor without protection? Is the shield strong enough? I would like to run the cable on my house siding, I was thinking to use a 1/2" electrical conduit, but the look is awful.

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
This item is not made for outdoor use so it would likely break down as time passes.

Does the job but seems short
These shielded cables silenced the noise I was getting in my audio, but seem shorter that 3 feet. I really had to move things around on my computer desk to make them reach.

Cable is too heavy
I bought the cables as a replacement for the ones that came with my Monophone headphones. When trying out, the cable would fall out of the headphone socket.
I would have expected Momophone would have tested this application.

Quality but with a limitation
I love the heavy duty construction of this, but was dismayed to find that for a lot of usages, molded headphones etc, the large end prevents the tip from seating enough to use. So I love it for the usages where the receptacle is flat or tubular, but for recessed headphone they won't fit.

Excellent quality - insanely thick
I already have a 3ft version of this cable I use in the car. I decided to get a 6ft for my (also excellent) MP Stage Right headphones (Product #605055).
The build quality and audio quality is indeed excellent, as I expected! But I admittedly underestimated how inconvenient such a thick and stiff cable is between my LG V30 and the headphones. Had it been a foot longer, I'd be able to keep the phone in my cargo shorts pocket. As it is, I can only use it with the phone next to me on the desk.
But I DO use it when I can, because with a good source (like the V30) and good headphones (like the Stage Right) is just sounds sooooooo incredibly good.
Product is 5-star for sure. Unbeatable, As long as you are prepared for how insanely thick, stiff and heavy it is.

Way too heavy and plug will not fit in headphones with recessed holes.
These are probably very high quality but when I tried to use them with several headphones with recessed plug holes. The rather wide base of the plug kept them from going all the way in and they could not make a clear connection and fell out immediately. Even on phones with flush plug holes they were very heavy and fell out a lot. May be OK for some purposes but too thick for use with portable headphones.

Having tried any number of other 3.5MM cables I finally found one that works well. It doesn't wiggle or slip like the others I've tried.
Note that it is thick, but it works well for me with aux input in my car and my IPOD - Classic model.
