I'm trying to think of an application for a 100ft INDOOR extension cord. Best I can come up with is for use on a construction site during the (short) period between when a house/building is roofed and when it is fully powered. What am I missing here? Also, how much does this thing weigh? 100ft of 14ga has got to have some heft to it...
When you start getting into the longer cord lengths, you need the thicker (lower number) gauge wire to make sure you don't suffer from voltage drop. I got the 100ft 12AWG cord to run a hedge trimmer around the yard. This monster is half the price of thinner 100ft cables elsewhere, and knowing Monoprice stands behind its products, I know that even though it's inexpensive, it's not cheap. The ends are solid and plugs operate nicely (I've had cords where you can't push a plug into the receptacle because it won't fit... and this is not one of them.)
If you're going for these longer cords, be sure to use a voltage drop calculator (online) to make sure you get the right gauge for the job (and given the price advantage, it doesn't hurt to go to a heavier gauge here.)
Yes, it will be heavy -- that much copper just weighs a lot -- but you won't be carrying it for long, and your power tools will thank you by running cooler and lasting longer.
SUPER FAST DELIVERY. The cord arrived a week sooner than I expected it. I have been using it to power a remote AC unit (shed needs some cooling). Drawing about 8A continuous power. No noticeable heat. Cord is flexible and easy to work with. Looking forward to see how it performs this winter in my Christmas light display.
used 8 of these for a film festival and got all the juice I needed and some left over. They were long which I needed for the 80 foot run, and had the specs for the amperage I needed. Lit a 90x100 foot tent with one cable, had one dedicated to popcorn, one for the tech booth, one for concessions, one for sound, one for coffee, etcetera. They work really well. And can take the load and beating.
I needed several heavy duty stage quad boxes for my band and didn't want to spend $$$$ on 12AWG cable at Home Depot. This cable did the trick and disappears onstage while doing it. Quit buying the same thing for twice as much.
