Will this work to connect a powered subwoofer with XLR to RCA-LFE on my home receiver?
If so, how does it work out? I notice the subwoofer I want to use has 2 XLR's and I will use just 1 LFE input?

BEST ANSWER: Almost. The XLR end should be male. This will work from your single LFE out of your AVR. The dual XLRs on the sub are for stereo line out. The sub will sum the two signals mono but your can use a single cable to drive it.

Monoprice 6ft Premier Series XLR Male to RCA Male Cable, 16AWG (Gold Plated)
YES Works well--(1). use either a "Y" adapter if they want stereo AND have both RCA "jacks" on a receiver and it is set up that way.: (or just connect the single wired RCA to the receiver LFE "jack", (2) the XLR to either "jack" (may use XLR "Y" here also but keep the receivers RCA a single RCA), (3) on the power sub amp a single "out jack" from the sub. Should be connected to the LEFT mono jack Your instruction manual for sub should indicate which is preferred. Also call sub Support they may be helpful. Don't forget to mark wires to indicate which goes where. and set at 80 Hz. Good Luck

No, you will need RCA to XLR male to connect to the subwoofer. With XLR, signal always goes from the male connector into the female connector. But if your sub has RCA input, you can use RCA-to-RCA cable -- you will get no benefit from the balanced connection unless it is balanced on both ends.

You are correct. If you want to use your sub for just music it’s better to use both inputs left and right. LFE is used mostly for special effects for movies and is set up for a roll off Frequency from your receiver.

The bass from sub woofer is mono, you can connect with 1XLR and adjust the sub woofer input, if your sub woofer has adjustable knob. You can also try with a splitter if your sub woofer do not have adjustable input.

It's a Denon....which isn't really relevant. My concern is connecting a powered sub (that has XLR's inpts only), to the LFE on my receiver....there are adapter cables like the one shown. I know it can be done I just want to make the connections right the first time.
It’s relevant as I was going to look at the back panel for inputs but seeing as how you can’t answer my simple question with a model number then your own your pal!

Does the XLR pinout comply with US or European standard XLR wiring, or can someone give me the pinout so I can figure it out for myself??

BEST ANSWER: I bought some of these a couple years ago. At that time they were wired like this: At the XLR end all 3 pins were separate, pin 1 to the shield, pin 2 to the clear(milky) wire of the twisted pair and pin 3 to the black conductor. At the RCA end the shield and the black wire are tied to the RCA outer contact and the clear conductor to the center pin. This IS the way an unbalanced output(RCA) SHOULD be wired to a balanced input.

I just learned on AVS Forum that these cables can potentially damage your preamp.
Grounding one of the unbalanced signal wires shorts the output of your preamp and can overheat/damage the internal circuitry.
I'm in the process of snipping out a section of the white wire at the XLR end.

I bought some of these a few years back and they're wired differently: The hot signal pin is black and wired to pin 2; the whitish one is grounded and wired to pin 3.

My Marantz Preamplifier has a section for XLR balanced interconnects and RCA unbalanced interconnects. My power amplifier utilizes RCA inputs. Is there any benefit to using the XLR output with the XLR female to RCA male cable vs simply using the RCA cable and available unbalanced outputs? The cable description indicates that this cable converts the balanced signal to an unbalanced signal, so am I losing the benefit of a balanced signal noise cancelation anyway?

Can I used these cables to connect the preamp output on my amp to the digital input on my DAC? I’m trying to avoid buying a headphone amp (and the only headphone jack in my stereo is on the DAC). Thanks!

Nice cables!
If we judge by looks and feel alone, they are great! Good quality! I haven't really used them yet except to check that they are working, which they are. I did use a high end multi meter to check resistance and they all are the same.. :)

Wired Incorrectly. Good Materials.
All four cables as received had the ground/shield connected to Pin 3 and the negative connected to Pin 1 on the XLR connector. The normal accepted configuration in the US has the shield/ground connected to Pin 1 and the negative connection to Pin 3.

Great Cable
Bought this as I wanted to use the balanced output of a DAC I recently purchased. Very solid build on this cable and works great for my purpose.
