BEST ANSWER: Figure about the size diameter between a quarter and half-dollar. You should be able to squeeze 3 HDMI cables in along with the power.
Hope that helps

If they are the large 22 or 24 gauge wires you can run 3. If they are the small 28 gauge or smaller you can run 7-8.

Is the power cable for this kit cl2 rated?
A shopper
on Feb 13, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Yes , it is Romax/electrical cable designed to be in wall. You wire each end plate to the romax which will be in wall then use the power cable from inlet to outlet to get your actual electricity.

This kit essentially does two things. First, for electrical power, it is essentially a custom extension cord that you put in the wall. You connect the two outlets via a standard 3-wire Romex type wire. Then, there is an opening on the other half of each wallplate that lets you pass other wires through the wall, such as HDMI, Ethernet, fiberoptic, speaker wire, etc. The wires will hang free inside the wall between the two wall plates. So, the CL2 rating is for the WIRE you pass through the wall, not for these wallplates. If you need to use CL2 rated cabling, you can use it. For my specific use case, I have an HDMI cable and a standard CAT6 Ethernet cable passed between them.

Is it possible to purchase replacement tabs? I took the plates off to paint my room, and the plastic tabs that flip out broke off.

Monoprice recessed power kit
Nice product. Great service. Works well. I used this in an insulated wall. Was able to push the vapor barrier back a bit and use this as is without cutting the vapor barrier.Recommended.Shipping to Canada took about a month ago just be aware of that if in Canada.

Gets the job done but not great quality
Tabs broke upon install and had to replace them with ones from an old work box I had lying around. Flimsy but gets the job done. The major complaint I have is that the opening for the cables to pass through do not line up. Only way to have them on the same side is to have one of them inverted, easily corrected design flaw

Worked Great
Easy to wire, and was exactly what I was looking for. Nice and clean looking, and allows for ease of threading cables through.

Best idea ever...
Again, best idea ever. Not sure what else to say except that the unit works perfectly. My TV looks like it's floating on the wall...no cables or cords whatsoever. Sano!

Works fine but incomplete kit
I've installed kits like this twice now. Both were made by Datacomm and the first was purchased from Amazon and the second one was this kit. The first kit came with high voltage conduit, while the second one didn't, which meant I had to run to the store and buy some.
Additionally, the Monoprice version of the kit seems to have had a cut-out template that was a little too big for the included grey old-work boxes. I lost both of the included ones into the wall cavity. Luckily, PVC boxes are cheap and the blue ones at Home Depot were a little bigger and worked fine.

Has some issues
I loved the idea of this product and it was easy to install but I'd look for other options if I was doing it all over.
PROS: Easy to install and looks nice. Plate has wings as well as box screws to secure the plates in place.
CONS: To line up the downward and upward facing low voltage holes, the components switch sides between plates. This seems like a huge design flaw. Also, the wings that catch the back of the drywall are REALLY flimsy. All 4 of mine broke off during install with barely any pressure applied.

Effective
This was very easy to install and effectively hid the cables. Price was much less than options from other vendors.
PROS: easy to install
Price
CONS: Gave it only a 4 for two reasons. First the plugs (both ends) of the extension cord (patch cable), that brings power from a true outlet to the in side of this system, are large and stick out from the wall significantly. Second, the locations for passing the A/V signal cable into the wall have no sealing method, so you have a fairly large opening into the wall. I stuffed some insulation around the cables to prevent drafts.
