Does this switch support eARC?
A shopper
on Dec 21, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Mine did NOT work with eARC, which is a huge issue. I would hope monoprice could chime in here as HDMI 2.1 is supposed to have eARC support and this device does NOT, therefore it is not HDMI 2.1.

I want to make sure I am getting the correct product:
I have a laptop (business) and a desktop (gaming) and two HDMI monitors. This will allow me to view work on both monitors THEN gaming on both monitors. I just have to press the [switch] button, correct?

BEST ANSWER: I don’t think it will meet your use case. On one toggle it will output a cloned version of your business laptop screen, and if you toggle the button it will then display a cloned image of your gaming desktop. Both monitors will display the exact same image. It’s useful if you wanted to route the same output to two displays (such as two big screens in a meeting room)

I'm going to say no, I don't think so. I think what you're asking for is a way to switch two displays between two sources. This has 2 inputs only, so only 1 output from each PC would be switched. I believe you're looking for would be a 4x2 Matrix Switch or similar. This has 4 inputs (2 per PC in this case) going to the 2 outputs. Note that you could probably make this work with two of these devices, one for each input (i.e. one output from each PC to one display), although this is likely the same as you're doing with the HDMI inputs on the displays themselves now, I'd guess.

How does this handle conflicting EDIDs / features of different displays?
A shopper
on Dec 21, 2022
BEST ANSWER: This porduct has EDID switches. EDID can be configured according to usage scenarios. If the video and audio formats of the two TVs are different, you can copy the EDID of the TV with the narrowest set of supported formats (i.e. the TV whose formats are a subset of the superior TV), For example: one TV is 1080P, and the other TV is 4K. We recommend copying the EDID of the 1080P TV or configuring it as the default 1080P EDID of our product, so as to ensure that both TVs have video. So, both TVs must be HDMI 2.1 to get the full benefits of this product.

Does this(Monoprice Blackbird 8K Dual Function Splitter/Switch) support Dolby ATMOS ? My use case- My receiver's HDMI is not able to pass 4K@60hz or HDR(it used to but some thing went bad) - I have a 7.2.4 audio connected to the receiver - I want to pass my 4k Apple TV and XBOX to send Audio to the receiver vis one of the output from this box and video via the other output of the box to my projector. The HDMI cables are all good and Audio Quest 48gbbs cables. Since both Apple TV and XBOX support Dolby ATMOS I was wondering if the audio passthrough(for Dolby ATMOS or any other type) will work via this route and will there be any Audio/Video lag. I see a lot of Dolby Audio format listed but did not see ATMOS listed there.

BEST ANSWER: Hello,
Thank you for your inquiry. You can use this to split it via HDMI, both HDMI ports will output audio. As long as cables are similar length there shouldn't be a delay issue.

When using with a single input and two outputs, does the device 'hide' the connected devices from the non-active output? My use case is using a single output from my Denon receiver into the Blackbird, and both outputs from the Blackbird connecting to HDMI3 (VRR) and HDMI4 (Dolby Vision) on my Sony X900H. The goal is to be able to use the Apple TV and BluRay player hooked up to the Denon on the TV's HDMI4, and the Playstation 5 & XBox Series X hooked up to the Denon on the TV's HDMI3 without the TV trying automatically switch to the wrong HDMI input. Right now I'm using a cheaper, dumber switch and the TV thinks that all of the devices plugged into the Denon are available on both inputs. This causes problems when it switches to the XBox through the HDMI4 input, as you can't have VRR & Dolby Vision on the same HDMI with Sony Televisions.

The Device I've Been Waiting For!
I made two big mistakes that I've been searching feverishly for months for a way to resolve:
1. I ran an 35' HDMI 2.1 8K60/4K120 cable through the walls and ceiling of a shed that ended up being 1 foot two short to its destination.. I only learned this after drywall was finished and there was no way to retrieve the cable or adjust the lengths of the cable on either side.
2. The HDMI cable in question was a fiber-optic cable, making it astronomically difficult to find accessories that work with it.
Essentially, I needed a device that would receive the signal from the fiber optic HDMi cable, repeat it, and then send it on is way. I also needed it to be lagless and transmit the HDMI 2.1, 8K60/4K120, HDR signal. I have purchased probably 8 different devices searching for a solution. Nothing worked.
THIS DEVICE WORKED! It successfully receives the full transmitted HDMI 2.1 signal originating 35 ft. away and reproduces it with perfect clarity and zero lag.
NOTE: I did have to play with the EDIDs to get it to work. Default config is "111." I had to change it to "000" and then back to "111," which sets the output to the default determined by "HDMI Out 1," and it worked. Make sure to keep and consult the manual to learn what all the EDID configurations mean.
Thank you, Monoprice!

A unique, albeit finicky, device
My use case is to split a 4K@120Hz 4:4:4 w/VRR and HDR signal from a PC to two LG OLEDs.
The user manual for the device indicates the max cable length is 3m/10ft. In practice, I have found that the max length of passive copper HDMI from the source (RTX 4090) is 2m/6ft when using certified ultra high speed cables. On the output I have found that active optical HDMI cables can be used for longer cable runs from the output (haven't tried for input).
Additionally, the default behavior of this device, with dip switches set to 000, is to copy the EDID of the display connected to output 1. However, this mode results in signal instability with my intended use.
The 111 dip switch position results in the switch having an EDID configuration that tells the PC its native display resolution is 8K, which is a problem when the output panel only supports 4K. Games will try to use the reported native resolution, as will Windows on initial connection. However, with some difficulty in getting the PC to change resolution, this dip switch mode does enable splitting a stable 4K@120Hz 4:4:4 w/VRR and HDR signal from the PC. Native 4K dip switch EDID configurations on this device are limited to 60Hz.
I have contacted Monoprice about these issues. I am hoping that they will create a firmware with EDIDs that have 4K@120Hz as the reported native display resolution and/or resolve the issue when using a copied EDID from LG OLED displays.
