BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question, Domenico. In order to control the volume, you would need a pre-amp or an AVR for the setup. I hope this helps.

That is correct. This is strictly a power amplifier with source (pre-amp, streamer, etc) inputs. The source would control the volume. For example, a Wiim Pro Plus streamer connected to this amplifier. You would use the Wiim streamer to control volume via the Wiim smartphone app.

The volume control will be on the pre amp you connect to this. This is a stand alone amp, not a receiver.

In addition to my (Answered) question about the XLR inputs, I got an answer saying it's for convenience, I Think this is besides the point of my question. I asked what is the point of having XLR Unbalanced inputs in terms of the Balanced or Unbalanced ability / spec, many other known Amplifiers with XLR inputs are 'BALANCED' for a reason, to have a BALANCED connection and use XLR not just for convenience but to get the signal in Balanced 'form' --- Please elaborate why you chose to use an Unbalanced XLR connection on these lesser / more budget amplifiers, and not Balanced(I think a lot of these buyers of these new amps think they're getting balanced inputs)..?

Monolith by Monoprice M3100X 3x90 Watts Per Channel Multi-Channel Home Theater Power Amplifier with RCA & XLR Inputs
BEST ANSWER: Convenience. Many amps are out there with XLR inputs that are not balanced inputs. Why would you expect balanced inputs on these "lesser / more budget amplifiers"?

So the XLR is convenience of having an XLR connection without Balanced ability, I understand. - if you check the 'why I Bought this item' section, some are mistaken thinking it's a Balanced connection because it's XLR. This isn't my mistake I read the page / info about unbalanced XLR. I guess it is a mistake to think if an AMP has RCA + XLR, to think XLR is automatically going to be Balanced. why not just have RCA then I'd say. Thanks for responding.
No need to be snarky - especially when you are the seller. Bush league answer, imho. Not necessary.

This is a strange feature and could be deceiving to the novice user. If you plug a balanced male XLR plug into this female XLR jack on the amplifier, it will certainly pass the signal, but there will be a 6 dB loss. The loss is because only half of the balanced signal is used. The other half goes to ground. I think the description should be modified so as to give a full explanation of what's going on. As I said, this is not how an XLR input is usually wired -- convenance or not.

why call it a Multi Channel when it is only a dual or Stereo Unit?
A shopper
on Nov 25, 2023
Well, according to Meriam-Webster and other English language dictionaries....multi means more than one...multi doesn't indicate how many more than one, just more than one....so Monoprice is correct by saying this is a multi channel unit. Probably for marketing and branding they chose mutli- instead of stereo or dual.

BEST ANSWER: Monoprice Power Amp requires a pre-amp signal. It appears from my research that your Yamaha has a Pre-Out and a Line-Out. I am assuming you have a subwoofer using your Yamaha Pre-out. Therefore, without a pre-out available due to using a subwoofer, this power amp will not work for you. However, if you are not using the Yamaha pre-outs, then you have a signal pathway to the Monolith Power Amp. Your next problem is your Focal speakers are not bi-wireable. If they were bi-wireable, I would use the Monolith Power Amp to drive the lower frequencies. The Power Amp has some serious juice for the bass section.

Yes, the specs show "Safe with all types of loads. Rated for 4 to 16 ohms" . Also shows 90 watts for 8 ohms, and 135 watts for 4 ohms - I suspect those 6 ohm JBLs will get a little more output than its stated 90 watts.

Is the XLR pass-through stereo? I'd like to create a 2.1 setup without a receiver or a pre/pro by connecting this subwoofer's XLR input to my LG CX 77 television's 3.5mm headphone output via an XLR-to-TRS cable into TRS-to-3.5mm adapter, then connect this subwoofer's XLR output to an M2100X to power a pair of THX-465T speakers. (I can upgrade that system later by adding a pre/pro, more amps, and more speakers.) Would this work?

First class build and performance
Possibly the best value for dollar piece of equipment i have purchased in the past 20 years.
I have 2 home theater installations, so I purchased 2 units when they were recently on sale. Both were to replace 2 not cheap but not good sounding class d amps, which were having class d amp issues driving my atmos overhead speakers.
The improvement in sound stage and clarity was instantly apparent.

Disappointed!
I have been eyeing this power amplifier for a little while now and after seeing all the good reviews, I decided to buy it. It's design is cool. Has a nice look to it and is simple and sleek. That's a plus. But, aside from the aesthetics, I am disappointed. It doesn't offer and auto sense on/.off through input signal. Only through 12v trigger. The sound is decent for 8 ohm speakers but for 4 ohm speakers, which it states it can produce 135 watts per channel into a 4 ohm load, it is terrible. There is no quality to the sound it produced whatsoever. It also struggled to push these speakers. Now, the speakers I used are 4 ohm, 100 watts each. This amp, according to it's specs, should have pushed them without any issues. This was a huge disappointment. For the average listener, with an 8 ohm set of speakers, this may work, but for anything else, this isn't the right amp.

Much needed upgrade to using an AVR for 2.1 stereo sound!
I came from the world of audiophile headphones so I already have a Gustard R26 DAC and a Feliks Euphoria Evo headphone amp/speaker pre-amp. To power my new Elac Uni-Fi UB52 speakers I knew my old Yamaha RX-V373 AV receiver that I had sitting around wasn't going to bring out the best in them, so the search for a compatible power amp was on. After looking at different amps in the $300-800 price range I settled on the wallet friendly M2100X and I am very impressed with the value these bring to my stereo configuration. The Elac speakers really shine now. Highly recommend this power amp.

Pleasantly surprised, and at a terrific price!
Over the last couple years I've been auditioning integrated amps to see whose sound profile I prefer. Most recently I had a Marantz but for a while I was running a Denon. I've always preferred a more neutral sound, and while these two were good, they still weren't what I was looking for. A few weeks ago I came across a Parasound preamp at the Goodwill for $25 and decided to see how separates stacked up to what I had tried. Not wanting to break the bank I opted for the M2100X since I still wanted quality sound and it got good reviews while still being affordable, especially compared to similar products. While it won't likely impress listeners who are used to amps costing multiple thousands of dollars, I was very pleasantly surprised by the sound stage, clarity, and impact this amp provides. Way better than any integrated amp I've ever heard. Perhaps someday I'll end up with a ridiculously expensive amp but until then, I'll be perfectly happy with my Monolith.
