BEST ANSWER: I’ve been using it on a macbook air, which has the same architecture (x64 and mmx up to sse3, so it should work.)

Can I plug my USB power cable for my laptop into this adapter (not the USB plug with the built-in cable on this adapter, the 'hole' on the end of the stick)? Or, it this only to plug a different device and draw power *out* of your laptop's USB-C

HDMI is the only port that works for me. My external drive (USB-A) won't mount. My SD discs won't. And the little Bluetooth mouse receiver (USB-A) won't work either. What might be the problem? (Mac OS Sonoma 14.5)

Does the trick for port expansion
This does exactly what I needed it to do which is add additional ports, including HDMI, card readers, a couple of USB-A ports plus a USB-C port to replace the one USB-C port it takes up. All these things were lacking in the laptop I bought for other reasons.

Great for M1 MacBook
This successfully connects my LG 24UD58 monitor to my M1 MacBook Air while a more expensive CalDigit hub gave me only a blank screen. Charging and SD card reader both work too.

Far better than the aluminum monolith I used to use. All functions 100%. All that's missing is the RJ-45 ethernet jack. Happy with this product. SD card function is reliable- old model was not.

Compact and useful!
If you need something compact that adds a few USB 3.0 ports, card readers and HDMI for hot desking this works very well. Card readers are plenty fast too.

It's just ok, but price is cheap
While convenient and it does work most of the time, it does sometimes needs to be unplugged and the replugged to work. Can't use it for power to my laptop, won't charge. So not a 5 star item.
