Yes, it will work fine. I have been doing just that, with no problems. Make sure your sound bar can take an HDMI input, not a digital or optical audio input.

I own 8 of these switches for my home studio. Each switch can uphold 4 4K monitors or piggy back to another switch to more monitors of other resolutions.. The problem is the video card on the pc. I strongly advise two good video cards to keep stable pictures on the screens. Once the video cards are correct the matrixes have no problem with the video stability. I use the switches for video production which does require rapid refresh rates like gaming does.

What does copy output 1, copy output 2, etc in the EDID settings mean?
A shopper
on Dec 1, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Copy EDID settings from output 1, output 2 simply means the matrix will copy the settings of that output and send the same settings to the other outputs. There is a page on the manual that explains the DIP switch settings and the corresponding Video/Audio settings (1080P, 4K, 30 Hz, 60 Hz, etc).

This Matrix switcher will allow the same picture to be shown on all 4 outputs but not stretched over all 4. You will see 4 of the same image, not 1 image stretched over 4 screens.

I have four displays I would like to connect to this matrix - two of them are 4k/60 and the other two are 1080p/60. Will this device output 4k/60 to two outputs and 1080p/60 to the other two outputs simultaneously? Some literate in the manual leads me to believe it will not achieve my desired function "you should choose an EDID in which all the settings are supported by all the displays."
If anyone can confirm I would greatly appreciate it.

BEST ANSWER: I have 7 of the 4K Blackbirds in my video switching network. I never have had a problem with these matrixes in the main 4K Matrix supporting 2 4K monitors and 2 1080p monitors which is my basic configuration. HOWEVER, it depends on your PC video cardS. I found that if I am using only one video card to output to the matrix and then 4 displays in the above configuration I often had meltdowns. due to the single video card could not maintain the bandwidth of information to supply 4 monitors. NOW, I have PCs in the network that have 2 video cards to output to the matrix. I highly recommend these matrixes as an affordable solution. There are more expensive matrixes out there but in my situation these work fine and I have them set up so that any PC can deliver video to any monitor in an array of extended displays in W10.

Great little item but a bit fragile.
The item is very compact. Our previous HDMI Matrix was larger. This is an upgraded version but it is not as sturdy. The IR eye is very fragile. It is located next to the power symbol. When the Matrix stopped responding to the remote control, it was mistakingly taken for an on/off button. Although no great force was applied it went inside a bit. However it ceased to respond to the remote control and there is no backup power button. It ceased to work. Gave it 4 stars because it upgraded our system while it worked. It Is all HDMI. Just contacted support hopefully response will be helpful. I like the size, but wish it was more sturdy.

Works exactly as promised.
The Blackbird 4k 4x4 HDMI Matrix, 18G, 4k@60 works exactly as described on the Monoprice website. But note, the website does not use the word "Atmos" in the sound-out listing, however, this unit DOES passthrough Atmos sound. The caveat is that you have to use the correct sync switch combination. If the sync combination is not correct, you may hear background sounds, but no voices, which happened to me. Once I switched the sync switches to allow HD 7.1 pms sound to passthrough, Atmos/DD+ and Atmos/PCM were readily available. The only "minor" shortcoming of this device is that while it does have a button on each line to scale down video signals to Standard Definition (SD) - for a TV that may not be 4k in one of the output zones - the button is not accompanied by a light to identify what setting is being used. But this is a minor shortcoming because you can simply look at the TV to tell if the unit is sending SD or a higher definition video signal. Lastly, if you need to split your video signal to various tv's/monitors, and if you have 4k tv's and/or 4k capable AVR, the Monoprice Blackbird 4k 4x4 Matix will work exactly as described.

4x4 18Gbps HDMI Matrix
Had a similar model that was probably three years old for my home TV needs and it lost signal through a couple channels. After a bit of troubleshooting just decided to get a new one. Installation was easy, just replacing in kind with same inputs and outputs. The most convenient thing for me is the IR remote signal frequency is the same as the old unit, so my universal remote signal wire that hangs in front of the unit didn't require any reprogramming. All signals worked so assume old unit failed for some reason. Other than concerns about longevity of the unit I have no complaints, works well for my needs.
Pretty simple device, 4 inputs in back along with 4 outputs. Comes with a small remote to select your combinations - I have never used the remote though as I have a universal remote for my system.

Dual monitor switching!
I bought this to be able to switch a dual monitor setup plus a third monitor between two computers. They're all 2560x1440 monitors, so I put the EDID DIP switches to 1100, Copy Output 1. This way, the computers both see 2560x1440 for both monitors.
The main dual display setup is OUT 1 and 2, the third monitor is OUT 3 (it's located directly in front of my steering wheel for driving games), and OUT 4 is empty.
IN 1 and 2 are the main PC, and IN 3 and 4 are the second PC.
To switch, on the front panel, I tap OUT 1 twice (to go back and forth between IN 1 and IN 3) and OUT 2 twice (IN 2 and 4).
It only takes 3 or so seconds, and then the display's up.
Critically, both computers always think they have the same 2 displays, so none of my windows get screwed up.
I use a separate USB3.0 switchbox for keyboard/mouse/etc.
Been doing this for a few months, and it's rock solid. Gets a little warm, but it's a solid metal case with no fan, so that's not surprising.
The remote works, but the front buttons are much easier for me to use constantly through the day.

Excellent HDMI Matrix!
I've been very impressed with this 4x4 HDMI Matrix. I have only used it with 1080p sources, but everything was self-explanatory as far as setup out of the box and operation goes. There is no noticable lag for playing video games.
All in all, this is well worth the price!

Blackbird useful to get any audio/video to any device in my recording studio
I just purchased my 8th Monoprice Blackbird 4K 4x4 HDMI Matrix for my video studio. I integrated it today as the switch between the camera & the monitors and also the PCs with the recording software.
Fired right up and the picture off my 4K video camera was outstanding.
They also made the unit more compact which is great as it is placed next to my camera. They took off the manual on off switch and the remote is now required for power up & down.

Go for it
This unit actually works with 4K. The validation takes place flawlessly across any number of source devices to display devices. It handles all the variations of HDR accurately also.
This is my 3?rd HDMI switch over the past few years. This time, the technology ( affordable technology ) has come of age.
This is a great unit - go for it !

High Quality Matrix Switch
The 4x4 matrix switch works as expected. The remote control is much better than the small remote that comes with the 4x2 matrix switch.
The only issue I noticed was that half the pages in the printed users manual were blank! Among the missing pages was the one that explained the positions of the DIP switches. Of course this caused no actual problems since the user manual can be downloaded.
