BEST ANSWER: Yes, I have used it just that way when flying on Delta Airlines and let me tell you the headphones do a fantastic job blocking the noise I have encountered while flying as a passenger on commercial aircraft. I recall that shortly after I had an opportunity to use them just the way you are asking about, (wired with ANC on), I was amazed how loud the A/C system was where I was seated when I had to take them off in order to hear the captain’s announcements. The noise blocking is simply great while wired!

It should because it works when not connected to Bluetooth.. it has a a separate on off switch.. The ANC is not very effective switch does not make much of a difference.

Yes, there are two modes ANC on and ANC off. With ANC on you just hear your source. With ANC off you also hear background noise

anyone use these outdoors while mowing the grass with a gas powered mower? Or in a workshop running a power tools?

BEST ANSWER: I have not; however, I don't think these would be as good as headphones made for the purpose. They're not overly tight around the padding, and I don't think the insulation keeps out as much sound as purpose-made headphones for utility/shooting, etc. From what I understand, you'd want passive noise cancelling (blocking) if you're trying to protect hearing, I don't think active does that. If you just want to hear better, I don't think the noise cancelling effect is probably strong enough for really loud environments. But I haven't tried, either.

I bought these specifically to use in my workshop where I run an exhaust fan and shop vac constantly- they work extremely well in the noise canceling mode. I will be using them on my riding mower when things warm up!

These were not very effective at all inside our server and tool rooms, both very noisy environments. My tight hearing-protector headphones were far more effective. These are fine for regular traffic and AC noise.

BEST ANSWER: I'm not familiar with the previous version, but the ANC seems to perform well. I am an owner of a previous generation Bose, and for over $200 less I am pleasantly satisfied.

I cannot comment specifically on the NC for these headphones, as I bought them strictly for my office, to be used on Ham radio. My only minor complaint is their weight. I'm used to a pair of Sony wired headphones that probably weigh 65% of these, but the convenience of not be chained to my desk via a coiled cord is worth the extra weight.

The ANC is not great. I'm not really sure where this model fits. The 600N has much better everything. I'm keeping these since I pretty much collect MP headphones now.

Absolutely. I was skeptical that they'd fit my head, despite the XL FlexFit baseball caps I wear. As for ear size, mine aren't large but the room inside should accommodate larger ears.

Did they fix the lack of padding on the *head* side of the headband? (The originals were nicely padded on the side not touching my head, and minimally padded on the head-side, and get uncomfortable after a bit.)

Is the battery replaceable, or is it built-in? (If built-in, then product life is limited to battery life, like with Pixel phones.)

BEST ANSWER: It is built-in but the battery can be recharged. It's battery life is determined by the current state of battery life technology which I assume is a few years at least

BEST ANSWER: I can tell you they worked with my phone as it used the phone mike I believe... people could hear me great when I talked with them on a plane that had just landed and while the ANC was active as well.

I don't see any mention of the materials used in the ear pads. Are they vegan? I've seen a number of products lately using so-called "protein leather" (which uses a mix of synthetic and animal-derived ingredients, and thus obviously NOT vegan). Thanks!

Hey... they do work great!
Never had ANC headphones before, but I fly from time to time and got to use them on a recent trip... they really do cut down on the noise and even while using with my phone BlueTooth connection.
The difference is like being in the plane before they start up the engins vs. while flying. That's a huge difference and they are very comfortable. Supre glad I got these and enjoy using them with other plug in applications. Still learing all they can do, but for the money... they are a supe deal.

Excellent Headphones
This is my second pair of headphones from Monoprice. They are excellent for listening to music and fit perfectly, and the bonus is they have style. I received a few compliments. Active noise canceling works perfectly if you need to cancel out noise on a plane or others in a room or outside.

Great service
Love the new headset, noise cancelling works like a charm. There was a bit of hiccup on recieving item but the support was quick to resolve the problem of me recieving wrong item and they let me keep other item as well. Bonus!

Would buy again!
Sound great and have a surprisingly long battery life. Comperable to similar sized sony headphones I've felt but a step below the compact bose ones. Great value and I'm happy with my purchase.

USB charger port integrity not great
I'm sad to see so many people say the SonicSolace II are not as great as the original because as much as I loved the 3 pairs I've gone through, they only last about a year and the USB charger ports fail. I can still get my most recent pair (that I actually bought over 2 yrs ago as a backup but had to pull them out recently) to charge but it is already getting dicey and I have to mess around with the cable and get them to sit just right otherwise it will stop charging after a few seconds. I'm not likely to replace them with this new version based on the reviews. I might pickup a 5 pack of replacement USB ports and attempt to install them myself but don't have a lot of confidence in that type of repair when the design was the problem to begin with. Maybe I'll upgrade to USB C?
Other than the USB port failure I have no complaints. Sound quality is adequate, noise cancelling works, connectivity never a problem, and they are comfortable enough that I am able to sleep with them on and frequently do so.

Great headphones
They work great, very impressed especially given the price. I have had both bose and Sony ANC headphones and these work just as well, but 1/3 the price.
Only thing that could be better, is the cords included are very stiff, and don't fit well in the case.
