These speaker are very good for the money….$49 each….. I am surprisingly pleased with these. After breaking them in they sound as Good as most high end speakers. I’m a big Martin Logan and Kilspch owner. I bought these to put on my patio which I converted into a 4 season room….they sound so good that I bought another set for the rears…..I know a bit much for such a small space…..but I must say for $300 including the Monoprice 12” sub…..it just doesn’t get any better. It’s blows everyone away. Trust me you can spend way more but these speaker hold their own. You won’t be disappointed.

These speakers are remarkable, I feel they’re accurate enough throughout the bandwidth they provide. Near field monitor use, I don’t think you can expect accurate bass representation below 100hz. For near field listening for pleasure they sound great. Other than the bottom end, I could see them being used for that purpose.

if you are using them in a nearfield setup yes, they would make good speakers also for the bedroom in addition to a tv, just make sure you use a good amp. i have these as my desktop speakers being driven by a fosi audi v3 amp, its plenty loud, ask my neighbors LOL

I don't think they are flat enough for monitor use, they are more geared towards home theaters. That being said I haven't used mine a great deal yet, but they do sound nice.

No. Once you buy the speaker they will spam you almost every day with emails begging for reviews and giving offers. Opting out does not stop the spam.

I wouldn't exactly call these "reference" monitors but for the sale price of $49 they are a fantastic value.

What is the max watt?
A shopper
on Aug 19, 2023
BEST ANSWER: I'm not 100% sure : the specs say "Recommended Amplifier Power50 ~ 150 watts" ..you can contact monoprice / monolith on the chat, but It could be 120watt ..or up to 150w, I'm not sure, The thing is even if it is 120w it's good to have more power per channel than less or not enough for good effect/quality sound.. Just use good volume (control) management, and even possibly maybe set a max volume setting on your receiver, I usually do that if I can. -- as many people say online that I've read/heard: it's better to have more power and manage it than to 'not have enough and clip your amp' turning it up to try to get more output etc.... sending bad/distorted signal to your speakers. I'm not and audio expert, but this makes sense to me to have more power :) ok. - hope this helps- good luck.

As with nearly any passive speaker, you can drive it until you blow the speaker. That said, because of the 4ohm impedance, you'll have a harder time blowing these out until you start getting into the 150W+ range.

Do these have a bass port like the B6? Because the picture makes these look like they are sealed with no port.

Which is the higher tier speaker? The Encore series, or the Audition series? And what is the difference? Is it just that the Encores are sealed, while the Auditions are ported?

I am a noob when it comes to sound. I work many hours a day at my computer and just want to listed to some music. I ordered 2 of these B5 speakers. How do I get a sound from my computer? Do I need an amplifier? What cables do I need? Please point me to what to buy. I have a relatively modern computer with HDMI outs connected to LG C2 TV, motherboard MSI X670 has SPDIF port, regular 3.5 and USB, ofc. Also, is there a way to also play sound from a phone, for example via Bluetooth? So most of the time the speakers will be connected to the computer, but sometimes it would be nice to have them play music from a phone/laptop. Is that possible? Thank you and sorry if my question is wrong and has no answer.

Monolith B5 Encore speakers are perfect!
They look and sound great. Couldn't be happier with them. At the same time, I bought an 8" subwoofer and am having trouble with a bad intermittent hum. Is there some one there who can help me out?

Nice sound
Love these speakers. Because they are sealed, you dont get the big booming bass. With this speaker the bass is more accurate. If you want the big rap style bass, the encore a8 speakers are ported abd supposed to be bass cannons according to reviewers.

KILLER bookshelf speakers!! No 2 ways about it!!
Now, since I decided 8 to 10 months back, that I was going to shoot for upgrading my home theater to consist of all Monolith Encore Series speakers, and a Monolith M12 V2 powered subwoofer, I have done so as of about 2 months back! And as it happens, these B5 bookshelf speakers make up EIGHT of the eleven total channels in my 7.1.4 Atmos setup, and, for the most part, they sound AMAZING, and to be fair, that is putting it mildly!
These B5 speakers, could be used as a L & R main in a 2.0 or 2.1 setup, and make a damn decent stereo hi-fi setup in a smaller to mid-sized room. While a subwoofer would not necessarily be required, one would certainly be recommended, at least, if it happened to be me you were asking. However, listening, whether to music, or the audio from your favorite movies and/or games, is a thing that every one of us does/hears differently, and we all have our own preferences when it comes to our setups and the manner in which we EQ those setups. There is even room correction to consider! Dirac Live being the current undisputed heavy weight champion in that domain, but even so, there are plenty of folks out there who are perfectly fine with their AccuEQs and their Audyssey-X32, or whatever means of calibration that is readily available to them without the need to make additional purchases, and that is perfectly fine by these speakers! While I recommend room correction for anyone, due to its ability to improve any system's sound - even in rooms completely void of any type of acoustic treatments - to make them sound much closer to what the "industry standard" assumes EVERY system is adhering to when they are recording music, movie, or game tracks, to ultimately be played back on systems in our homes, still, these speakers would do just fine on their own, with no DSP to speak of, so don't think these are a lost cause just because DSP is not currently within your grasp!
My 8, B5 bookshelf speakers, are all cleanly mounted to the walls in my main HT space, and being used specifically for the 8 satellite channels/positions in my 7.1.4 HT setup, and for this purpose in particular, I have found them to be FAR superior than ANYTHING else I have tried in similar, or even much higher price-brackets! And this is no exaggeration. Not in the least. With the Encore B5 speakers in my satellite positions, my family and I have ALL noticed a marked improvement in just how immersive the overall experience is when watching movies, or playing games! My Arctis Nova Pro Wireless headset, with its noise cancelling, and 3D spatial audio (via Dolby Atmos or DTS-X), may do a better job of isolating the audio from a game or movie, and drowning out any unwanted sounds in the background, but now, all of that isolation and spatial audio, it just doesn't hold a candle to cranking the AVR up to reference level, or close enough to it, and diving into a game with the full power of 7.1.4 channels of clear, crisp, audio, and the 500w RMS DSP controlled powered sub handling the LFE! These speakers EXCELL at providing everyone in the room, with an immersive, and truly awe inspiring experience! And with four B5s filling out the height channels, we have begun to experience Dolby Atmos object based 3D audio as I believe it is meant to be experienced! Gone are the days of having to rewind scenes and point out what to listen to, and where, to my wife and kids, in order to attempt to justify the $ I've invested into our Atmos HT! Now, I no longer look insane, but instead, the whole house is right there with me, blown away at the capability of a receiver, and these 11 Encore speakers - and the M12 V2 powered sub - to be able to create such a captivating audio experience, that it's easy to become so lost in a movie or game, that it almost seems as though you are right there in it at times! That's really the best way to describe it!

The are fine I suppose
These sound no better than cheap speakers you can buy at Walmart. There's no cripsness to the audio, its very "bland" sounding compared to mid range speakers from 15 years ago. I wouldnt reccomend these over anything you can just find on the shelf of your local store.

5 Stars for the Sale Price 4 Stars Without Considering Price
For $49 each this is probably the best speaker deal on the internet and the fact that it's not a one day blowout but something Monoprice has kept up for months is nuts.
I'm a mix engineer who works in a facility with 3 top of the line Genelec Atmos mix rooms, all tuned by one of LA's top acousticians, and I've worked in many of LA's best big name studios - Paramount, Westlake, Nightbird, etc. so I'm very familiar with what a really great speaker sounds like in a great room. Now while I have a solid home atmos mix room, it's not professionally tuned, and unfortunately, this is not a really great speaker, but it's a REALLY good speaker for the price.
In this price range (even without the sale) most of what you'll find are thin speakers lacking detail and a hollow mid range with flabby bass response due to cheap cabinets and poor porting decisions. This is not one of those speakers - this speaker's ability to crank out surprisingly low frequencies is a big standout feature. From some research it seems like Monoprice either hired a pretty famous speaker designer to put these together or lifted his tweeter waveguide designs, but either way they do a great job at imaging in an Atmos space, which is a lot more than I can say for the previous satellites I had in the room.
On that note, I upgraded my home Atmos mix room's surrounds to these so I could put my previous surrounds (the THX certified satellites from Monoprice) up on the ceiling to replace my cheapo easy to mount ceiling speakers. The imaging in an Atmos setup is pretty incredible - for the first time I'm really experiencing the space being activated in a full frequency range and it's truly night and day vs the previous satellites. I really didn't expect them to make a huge difference, but I'm seriously impressed with what these speakers put out for $49 each.
I'm so impressed with these that I bought the Encore C5 to replace my center channel, so I'm looking forward to that arriving and having all of my ear-level speakers all but my main L/R speakers (which are old pre-focusrite ADAM A7s that tone match surprisingly well with these) be completely driver matched.
While I haven't applied any DSP correction (loaned a buddy my calibration mic, but getting it tomorrow!) I'm really excited to see what these speakers can put out when the whole system is calibrated properly, as currently I'm just working with the limitations of the Dolby Atmos Renderer's built in calibration, which is fine, but nothing like a fully digitally calibrated room.

Great little speaker
This speaker is great value for the money especially on sale. A little thin in the midrange but a decent amount of bass and clarity in the highs.
