BEST ANSWER: Hi, this will work with a USB-C adapter, but if you are planning to use with a mobile device, you would need to confirm that the device or its Operating System will be able to use a USB webcam.

How does the focus work? Is it a mechanical focus on the camera? It did not sound like it was auto focusing.

Does this camera have pan and zoom via software in Windows 10?
Gregory L
on Aug 10, 2021
BEST ANSWER: This camera doesn't come with any software, you use it with whatever video conferencing/camera software you are using (Zoom, Google meet, OBS, etc). Pretty much all webcam software provides zoom capabilities but that's zooming in software, physical zoom and panning requires that functionality be built into the camera itself and t's not mentioned in the features for this camera and the monoprice cameras that DO have pan and zoom cost 10x more, so no way this camera has PHYSICAL pan and zoom functionality.

Unit and microphone introduced bad hum when illuminating light was set at anything other than full power. Now awaiting replacement after I sent this one back for an exchange. I hope the new one works better.

It does what it advertises
TLDR -- it works simply and very well for its price point, but there are a few minor drawbacks for experienced videographers. I did not test the microphone as I already had a suitable external microphone.
Pros -- This camera is great for someone who just wants something inexpensive to work without a whole bunch of setup. My Windows PC detected the camera immediately when I plugged it in and Zoom, Streamyard and OBS all worked with it without any additional fiddling. I'm using it on top of a camera mounting bracket that I also bought from Monoprice, so my installation is sturdy and stable. The attached ring light has its own power button, so the camera can be used without the light if appropriate.
Cons -- Being a professional photographer myself, I found its limitations pretty quickly (which I had little doubt would happen when I got it). The autofocus works but tends to hunt around if the subject is moving a lot. The picture is clear, but in some applications I can only get 4:3 aspect ratio. The attached ring light can be too bright for comfort when looking at the lens to communicate with the viewer at the other end of the line. The exposure, even without the light, seems a bit bright and almost overexposed by about 1/2 to 1 stop. I didn't see anything in Windows' Device Manager indicating where I could make global settings adjustments, so it's up to the applications that use it to allow you to make those changes.
Conclusion -- For the price, I got about as much as I was expecting. This camera works with all the applications I tried that need camera access. I would like to make further video settings adjustments, but don't see a way to set global defaults. In all, I will keep and use this as a quick solution for meetings and office room recordings.

Pros: Video quality is good. Good 3 brightness level light.
Cons: There is not padding on the mount so your monitor screen might get damaged. No tilt in case you're using on top of and external monitor you have to readjust the entire thing every time you tilt your monitor which again might damage the monitor screen. The privacy cover is something you have to attach yourself by sticking it on.
Overall not impressed but for the price I got it on sale it's okayt.

not impressed
Pros: lower cost, quick shipping, built-in face light
Cons: camera bigger I expected, it is really "zoomed" in (placed at the far back of my desk my face completely fills the frame, way closer than other cameras), camera was constantly focusing, making the image blurry even in good light. Colors were kind of washed out

Response from Monoprice
Hi Chris, thanks for your purchase. Based on your review, it sounds like your web meeting or camera app may be using a different or a lower setting for this webcam and affecting the image. Most apps have a way to adjust device or camera settings, it might be good to try another camera or web meeting app to see if you get different results. Also, if you could check out settings. For the "zoomed" in issue, your app might be defaulting to a lower resolution, for example in Zoom check that "original ratio" is used for the camera. Or in other apps, try higher resolutions (this camera works best with 5MP). For the colors and blur, your app might have previously set adjustments or possibly auto adjustments (for example Microsoft Teams) that may be affecting the camera.

good camer and light, no indicator when on and ringlight always on
The good:
This camera is an improvement over my previous one, and i really like the ring-light
The privacy cover easy to use
The bad:
There is no indicator when the camera is active, and the ring-light is always on when turned on (even if camera not active)
Have to "stick on" the privacy cover
