Is there any way to stop the animation and still have backlit keys? I can slow down the animation but can't stop it unless I turn off the backlighting entirely. And, if I do that, the key letters are virtually invisible. What I want is just a solid, non blinking backlight. Thanks in advance.

There is a card in the box that the keyboard came in. That card has all of the different key stroke to adjust the keyboard. If you press the FN and the number 5 you will get a solid color and if you repeat that you can go through the colors.

There should’ve been a little card with instructions included, but yes. FN + 5, keep pressing to cycle through the color options.

I use Linux as my operating system. Is it still possible for me to turn off the RGB on this keyboard?
A shopper

BEST ANSWER: The lighting on this keyboard is not controlled by the operating system. You will need to set it to a single color and one of them is white. Without any lighting on you will not be able to see the keys. I have mine set to green. The keyboard comes with a small card explaining the different settings you can make.

The user guide is at https://downloads.monoprice.com/files/manuals/37988_QIG_190426.pdf It does not matter what OS you are using as long as the USB is connected to a computer or even a USB charger.

Two things: first, the RGB on this is fully controlled by the keyboard itself. In other words, there isn't any software control. Second, there is a button between the Fn key and the right CTRL key that allows you to turn the RGB on/off.

There is a key on the keyboard to turn the RGB on and off, but you can’t really see the keys with it turned off unless you are in a very well lit space.

Yup, it's a combination of holding the FN key and one of the F keys at the top (which button depends on the volume/media control, since this keyboard can also pause, skip back, and skip forward using fn+f keys)

How's the brightness on the RGB lighting?
Could you read the layout in a semi-darkened room?
Does the lettering on the individual keys stand out from the ambient lighting given off by the keyboard?
Are the keys easy enough to read or do you recommend good room lighting for general use?

BEST ANSWER: For anyone interested, I have it set up now and wanted to add, it's actually not as bright as I had hoped.
The problem is with one's viewing angle.
If you are looking straight down at it, the key illumination appears to be quite good.
But if you have the keyboard set at a distance, the upward illumination from the keys themselves is diminished.
This is due to the LEDs being situated so far under the keycaps that the light doesn't have enough outward direction to travel.
Keys closer to you will appear fine, but the number row and toprow F keys will particularly appear very dim and hard to read.
This is worsened by the font used in the keycaps design.
It's not a deal breaker as this keyboard is EASILY the best in its class (sub $30) I've used. The feel of the keys is superb, it's quiet enough, the key response and anti-ghosting is very good, it feels sturdy and well crafted.

Is it clicky?
Chad M

BEST ANSWER: No - it's not a mechanical keyboard. It has a membrane under the keys, which soften the impact. There are no switch hooks being engaged under each key. There will be some "clickity-klack" as you type, but it will be more like other standard keyboards you've always used.

Is this supposed to save it's own settings?
Every reboot it makes the "Insert USB" noise as if it is re-installing, then 2 or 3 cycles of the usb removal noise.
It DOES NOT WORK AT ALL until at least 60 seconds after a start up.

Needs improvement
I really like this keyboard except that you can't see the keys unless you're looking directly straight out them. When you trying look from an angle any angle at all it's impossible to see what you're typing otherwise it's really nice

A great keyboard for the price. I'm not using it for gaming but chose this because of the price and backlite. I takes a little getting use to the action of the keys for regular typing.

Worth the $ if you get it on sale
Got this at a steal at $14... I really can't complain for that cost -- it works as it should, though coming from various mechanical keyboards this membrane mechanism definitely feels a bit mushy to me. But again, if you are looking for a cheap, affordable RGB keyboard it's hard to beat this. The reason why I am giving it 4 stars and not 5 is more related to lack of software and the font used on the caps (I really don't like this 'gamer' font).

Hardware excellence
Delighted to get this high end gamer keyboard at standard keyboard price. Flawless keyboard action, the light controls are confusing and the font makes the keys hard to read without bright lights, great for gaming and garages or shops where you need a durable keyboard, but hunt and peck typists get frustrated by it.

Solid buy for $25
The key strokes aren't quite as nice as my non-RGB logitech, and the overall comfort and feel aren't quite as nice either, but it's a solid overall buy especially at $25.
My only real complaints are rather small, maybe this feedback can help MP make a better keyboard in the future:
the backlight toggle button is just about 1-2 mm higher than the surrounding "Fn" and "CTRL" keys, making it something I constantly accidentally hit with the side of my hand or misclick when trying to hit the other two keys. Very weird choice to do this!
The backlighting itself is pretty weak even at full brightness. The diffusers behind each key are not quite designed properly, and they barely illuminate the top two rows of the keyboard. An easy solution would be to make the diffusers a less transparent white with texture so that the keys can be easily seen without the backlighting on (they are completely clear diffusers that make the keys completely blank when they backlighting is off).
It's pretty chunky. The base of the keyboard is about twice the height of my lightech or my razr (which has RGB lighting but absolutely horrible layout and keys).
There is little/no documentation for this. It has a "gaming mode" but there's 0 mention anywhere of what, if anything, it actually does.
The color customization is pretty weak. It says "per key" but that's not exactly true as it doesn't let you customize "per key" but just by sections. Some of the preset effects go "per key" if that's what they mean, but it's not per key programmable.
Not a huge fan of the key stroke or the amount of noise it makes. Much louder than any other keyboard I own. Reminds me of keyboards from the late 80's and early 90's. Slowed my WPM by a few compared to shorter stroke keys.
Overall though, for $25, very solid. Those are my only complaints and they are very minor in the scheme of life. Just some things that could be improved upon, but I absolutely would recommend this to others or buy it again at this price.
