Cheap kept disconnecting.

Awful. Will RMA. READ THE OTHER REVIEWS. Don't buy this.

PROS: Clear blue.

CONS: Doesn't write. When you tell it to write, it writes maybe 2MB worth and then stops, and the drives letter in My Computer indicates there is no card in the SD slot anymore.

First, let me say that I know I may have just gotten a bad product, so this may not be true for all of these card readers...but I am not going to buy another (or get a replacement) to find out.

I first tried this with an older MS card. Reading the data failed, and afterwards, the card no longer worked in the camera it came from. I am not 100% sure it worked before the read though, so I was still optimistic that the reader might be fine. I then tried to read data from a very new SDHC card (8gb, brand name), which I knew worked perfectly. This card reader would not read the card at all. Fortunately, there was no data corruption after that attempt, but there was also no data transferred to my computer.

I would like to assume that most of these readers work just fine and I had a poor experience...but the other reviews do not seem to confirm this. At the price, I will just throw this one away (I do not want to try a replacement) and buy a different type of card reader instead.

In response to feedback to another review: yes, the USB port works just fine it is sending power and can power other card readers and other USB devices.

I agree with other reviewers that this does not reflect poorly on Monoprice I have shopped here many times and this is the only time I have ever had a bad experience. However, I believe that this particular product should be reviewed by Monoprice's engineers to confirm whether it is worth selling or not.

I ordered this item along with two other items from Monoprice after I had been satisfied with another purchase. This item failed within one card read session. I inserted a SD card and it seemed to read it then when I tried to copy files from it it was incredibly slow. I tried other USB ports on the computer with no luck. I tried a CF card then and after struggling to even get it lined up it worked no better. I emailed Customer Service and they promptly issued a replacement that I received only to have it work for 5 minutes and die. I guess you get what you pay for like the other guy said and like him this doesn't reflect on monoprice but I hope they pull this product. I've seen it for sale other places but it just isn't working for me.

I bought it, opened up and inserted my SD, it worked fine for a few minutes, then it ejected itself without notice. Second time I put it in it kept giving me "limited capability" warning. Hence, it does not seem to write, although you can open up and read and transfer files from the SD to the computer but not back into the SD, so the writing capability must not be functioning. Well, I guess that's what you got for a dollar something.
