What is the USB dongle for?

BEST ANSWER: If you're asking about the microUSB piece that connects to the bottom of the monitor, that's a light that projects a logo down onto your desk beneath the monitor. I personally unplugged mine because I didn't like it.

If you're talking about the little cylinder with the USB on the back, plug it in near the rest of the hdmi / dp inputs and it'll project the dark matter logo on your desk.

Your question lacks the info to give a proper answer. Does your video card support the resolution wanted at 144Hz? Is it a game that you are trying to get 144Hz in? Does the games support it? Does Windows allow for 144Hz? When you are asking for MPRT are you asking about response time?

I know that windows supports 144hz and my game does. My computer is a gaming laptop with a 144hz screen built-in. To answer the question about my GPU running the resolution of the monitor at 144hz, no it wouldn't be able to. My main question would be why windows 10 sees the onboard display as 1920x1080 @ 144hz but it sees this screen as 3440x1440 @ 59hz. I am seeing this in advanced display settings of windows itself. I just figured that windows would at least recognize the maximum hz possible even if it couldn't reach that because the computer isn't powerful enough.
It's not really a windows thing. The ability to drive a display is based on the GPU and driver.
WIndows will only display what the driver is capable of doing. Since the GPU knows it can do 1920x1080@144 it shows that and same logic for 3440x1440@59Hz. The driver knows that it can't do 3440x1440@144Hz so it will not display that as a choice.

You need to use the display port adapter to get 144Hz/free-sync. If your video adapter doesn't have display port you will not be able to do this.

I enabled HDR in Windows 10 settings and everything looks washed out and bad, I also made sure it was enabled in the on screen menu on the monitor, and while it looked a bit better, standard SDR mode in windows 10 looks far superior. What are the tweaks or settings used to make hdr look good in windows 10?

BEST ANSWER: For my preference I preferred to avoid any hdr settings on monitors like this this monitor it’s rated at 400nits only and for having a true hdr experience you need 1000nits. Anything below 600nits it’s just company marketing saying a monitor it’s capable of doing hdr. I had this experience before with different monitor and TVs and it’s the same… you can try a professional calibration like data color to get the best of it like I did with mine but they performed perfectly on SDR no HDR.

Does this support Nvidia G-sync? And how well does it do that? (i.e. is there screen flickering in menus etc)

BEST ANSWER: It does not support G-Sync. Only FreeSync from AMD, but Nvidia does support FreeSync now as well. Check your display adapter for compatibility.

What are the best settings for this monitor (Dark Matter 34in) - at higher brightness it seems to have a humming sound. I'd like to know what are the right settings for productivity use (web pages, documents, etc.) for brightness, hue, contrast, refresh speed, etc.)? Thank you.

Out of the box, no signal was being detected on the monitor although it was showing up in the display settings on windows, so I thought the monitor might have been broken. Changing the monitor resolution once resolved the issue, and now it's working great. Until I get an adapter for DP, it's currently running at 100hz over HDMI, which has some noticeable smearing using the UFO test, but looked fine when briefly playing some single-player games. I'm hoping it'll be a bit clearer at the full 144hz, but it's a great monitor for the price either way.

It's Ok... but it's curved and cheap.
I know I shouldn't have expected the best possible monitor for the cost (of which, is a great value, by the way) but I was hoping for a bit more quality control if my issues are from that.
1. Performance: 5 Stars. I get zero tearing at high refresh rates and gaming is solid.
2. Color Reproduction: 3 Stars. I've calbrated the monitor as much as I'm going to be able to. The colors are bright but I can't quite get them to look as good as they should. In order to get some to the proper levels, the brightness has to be bumped a bit too much to achieve a semblence of accuracy.
3. Brightness and Contrast: 3 Stars. Though bright, I feel like the brightness works against the colors in the monitor, as touched upon above. Contrast is ok, as there is a slight fuzziness that I don't believe should be there. Images look softer than they really should in some respects.
4. Overall Image quality. 1 Star. There is a visible dark edge (and no, that's not a correlation to this being a "Dark Matter" monitor) that extends out just more than a quarter of an inch from each side. This dark edge presents itself as a brown color against a white image. As well, the backlight is not even, and there is a noticable darker area near the bottom, left of middle, portion of the screen. It is quite noticable on any grey backgrounds. As well as dark ring that occurs in the center, whenever a dark grey image is shown.
The curved edge is decent and I do appreciate the resolution at 3440x1440. Those are the two major benefits.
Overall, I do not think I would buy this again. And if I didn't need it for my current job, I would have returned it already.

Great display for a good price
I got this during the open box sale for $299... A few days later the page now says this display is "discontinued" so I guess that is why they were unloading inventory so aggressively.
Display came with no dead pixels. It was missing a monitor screw that connects the adapter to the stand so I am guessing the last owner sent it back as they had no other one to use. I was lucky enough to find one close enough.
What a great display! Very bright, no flicker, no ghosting. I am using the "middle" setting for response time. I used the settings below to get things right with a little adjusting on my own.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/je4yx6/34_dark_matter_info_and_review_settings/
Keep in mind that any settings you use...If you enable HDR in windows you lose access to the brightness and contrast settings. I found it better to leave HDR on in the monitor settings and leave it off in windows. So that means it will still work in games that support HDR.
I was able to enable Gsync and have had no issues or flicker.
All this for $299!

Excellent value for the money.
Great screen. OSD buttons are a little cumbersome. Also wish there was an attachable speaker for the unit. I am using in home office for spreadsheets and visualizations and it's working great.

Great monitor, horrid vesa.
This monitor is a great quality of life upgrade for me while I wait for parts to build a new pc. The monitor is much better than I expected for the price. The vesa mount is consists of 4 standard hardware standoffs that are not the proper length and resulted in the plate spaced 1/2 inch or more off the back of the monitor on an angle and no way to use the trim piece that covers the red light. I cut 2 of the standoffs and used 2 long screws with spacers to get the plate to marry up to the monitor back neatly and removed the trim piece from the stand and drilled 4 holes in in to keep the red light in the back covered as intended. This monitor is visible from the back. I would have paid to buy a vesa kit for this monitor but when I looked there was nothing..

Great monitor! Really good bang for the buck!
I've been very impressed with this monitor. I had the Zero G 35 inch monitor and liked that very much. It was great for my work and worked well with gaming.
This monitor is a step up in gaming while maintaining good qualities for my work.
The Quantum Dot display gives great colors the blacks are very deep. 144hz refresh rate is awesome and when get above 80 fps it really shines, so clear, no blurring! I use this in Battlefield 1and V as well as some other games like Elite Dangerous and its fantastic!
Not as feature rich as some monitors, but, for the money (I paid $400) it's an outstanding value and meets my needs perfectly.
