If using a usb extender does the power adapter provide power for the camera or does it require power over usb?
John H
on Sep 12, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi, you won't need power over USB through the extender if you'll be using the power adapter. The extender will mainly be for the data signal, and the camera will draw power from the adapter in that kind of setup.

If you plug the camera into a USB 3 port and either (I) use an active extension cable or (ii) a passive cable less than 15 feet in length, you should not need to use the power adapter because the USB 3 port should provide ample power. Otherwise, you will need to use the power adapter. (NOTE: You may not need a USB extension cable because the included cable is very long.)

Does this camera go into a hibernation mode if offline for a certain period? I have a need for a camera that will remain in focus to a specific location when not in use for several hours.
Edward T
on Jul 27, 2021
BEST ANSWER: No, if by offline you mean powered up but not in an app. If the computer and cameras stay powered up, camera should stay in position. Keep in mind that some applications like Windows Camera will reset focus and position when they are launched. I have found that applications like Zoom will leave the camera in position when it is exited and will pick them up in the same position when restarted.

Based on my experience with other USB cameras (unfortunately not with this specific model under your specific conditions) as long as the camera has power and "sees" the driver, it will remain in whatever state you left it. For instance, if this is connected to a laptop and you see the image, it will stay that way as long as the laptop and the application is awake. If the app quits, the camera is still powered and if the laptop sleeps, the camera shuts down. YMMV.

I can tell you this much. The camera resets to the default zoom and position when it’s plugged in. I have it connected to a dock and when I plug the computer in it boots up and faces forward. I have to use the remote to send it to a preset each time. As long as it stays plugged into the computer though it doesn’t seem to move.

I don't know if there is a hibernation mode, but it is immediately ready when I start the computer for streaming each Sunday morning for our church, after the computer has been off for a week. You can see a recording of one of our church services by searching for Hawthorne First United Methodist Church on YouTube.

I can't say for sure if the specific software or other hardware I use with it makes a difference, but I generally only use this camera to broadcast church services on Sunday morning, and from one week to the next, unless the camera gets unplugged, it remains focused in the same place I had left it the week before.

Is the image able to be flipped so that the camera can be used while mounted on the ceiling? Also, what mounting hardware is included?
A shopper
on Aug 13, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes the image can be flipped, but with the "L" mounting bracket there is not really any advantage to do that. The camera mounts to the bracket with with a single knurled screw. Camera can be remote controlled with a Pelco-D controller using RS-485 2 wire control. The camera is also powered through the video cable. I am doing a 4 camera shoot, they work great. The joy stick control is very smooth with this camera. We will be adding 1 or 2 more cameras soon.

Yes, there is a button on the remote to flip the image. The hardware that comes with it is a wall mount. The camera has a 1/4-20 female thread (standard tripod thread) so it wouldn't be too difficult to make a ceiling mount.

Does this camera support UVC PTZ control? Zoom (the conferencing software) now supports such cameras and can allow you to give a remote user control of the camera, including being able to pan and zoom. Several more expensive PTZ cameras now work with Zoom on this. I wonder if this one does? To test, plug it in, and have a remote user do "request camera control." Give them control and see what they can do...

I bought this item and like it overall for INDOOR use, but am a bit surprised and disappointed that using for an OUTDOOR space is really not working for me. Does anyone know how to get a non-washed out image when using in outdoor lighting? Scenario is trying to capture a speaker in a courtyard. I've tried all settings, and so far have not had any success. (Or have I simply purchased the wrong product for the application?) Thank you in advance if you have answers here, as I do not want to return the unit unless I can't solve this.

on Mar 21, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Hi, the camera is primarily designed for indoor use and optimized for ambient lighting so it does not have an adjustable aperture or camera iris. But you could try adjusting the exposure by setting to manual exposure instead of Auto Exposure (AE) in the "Lens" on screen display menu. Try choosing a faster shutter speed value and it might allow you to get a non-washed out image. The tradeoff is that the camera won't be able to adjust automatically if lighting conditions are constantly changing.
An alternative you might also consider is using a camera lens filter. We have not tested this application and the camera is not designed to use filters readily, but you might be able to find a size that could work as a DIY workaround.

I need to use this for a church set up. I would like to mount in the back of the sanctuary which is about 30 ft or so from the closest item I'd need to zoom in on. I plan to set a wide shot on the whole chancel (stage) area, and one zoomed shot on only our pulpit. I would also like to run a CCTV line from the camera to another room for a lag-less feed to our nursery to which streaming would not be practical. So there are two questions: is the 10.0x optical zoom likely enough to zoom in 30ft or so and still give a decently focused picture on our pulpit (this video gets used for our live stream and subsequently for an edited YouTube video)? And secondly, could a feed be run directly from the camera to a separate room? I don't care how it gets there, we are just wanting to avoid streaming to that room to avoid the inevitable audio lag. This is meant to be a simple setup with next to no operation during our services save for changing scenes from the wide shot to the pulpit shot, for which we will likely utilize the remote. Thanks for the help.

Took a little bit of getting use to remote control as to not hit wrong buttons.

Excellent Value PTZ camera!
I design AV Technology for University Classrooms and have used many cameras. The Workstream 10X seems to work as well as any. It can be powered exclusively off of Computer port. If on a limited budget and needing a legitimate PTZ camera, I can recommend this unit. The image is crisp and clean.

Outstanding value
Five stars because of the excellent value, perhaps half the price or less of more name-brand models. As another reviewer commented, you will need to deal with quirks, worst of which is manual that leaves many basic key points left unsaid. Most important, the remote is capable of controlling more than one camera, with 1 through 4 buttons at the top. Default is 1. Pressing other numbers will stop controlling the camera, yet this is not clear in instructions. Remote AAA batteries not included, not important, but the included 5 meter USB cable was a nice accessory. Manual now has pin-outs.

Excellent PTZ Cam for Price!
Works as advertised and speeds up workflow as "camera 2" for podcasts and theater videos. Longish zoom helpful.

Better than expected.....
Camera works well, video is very good, the 10x zoom fits our application very well. Just would like to get the pinout on the visca connector for remote control. The IR remote is OK but not great.

Awesome
Great camera, we are very happy with it. Only thing that has thrown me a bit is the lack of analog control through PC for the PTZ. The digital stepping always feels a bit harsh when live, but it's a small issue.

A great value if you can deal with quirks
Purchased this camera to stream church meetings over Zoom. It has worked wonderfully! The camera's zoom capabilities work great and having presets has been very useful too. There are some quirks, though:
- Presets sometimes don't work properly
- Pans can sometimes be a little "jiggle-y" and can move the "Home" position.
- Once in a while, switching the preset to preset will rotate the camera quickly all the way around so it's facing in reverse. Annoying, but doesn't happen all the time
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the purchase. I can deal with some quirks for the sake of saving hundreds of dollars!
