BEST ANSWER: Shouldn't be an issue as displayport is a cross-platform standard. Works well with my BenQ monitors.

I used mine on a MacBook Pro, so I would assume it would work on the mini.

Is there an equivalent product, but with HDMI instead of DP (in other words, a USB-C/TB3->HDMI), to connect an old PC with HDMI output to a modern monitor with USBC/ThunderBolt3 input?
Alternatively: is there an HDMI-to-DP adapter that would work with this cable?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
We would have DisplayPort to HDMI adapters and cables but not HDMI to DisplayPort adapters or cables.

You need a HDMI 1.4 to DisplayPort adapter (4K30) (or a HDMI 2.0 to DisplayPort adapter (4K60) from gofanco or SIIG which are much more expensive). These are not as reliable as DisplayPort to HDMI adapters.

The portable monitor would need its own power supply since DisplayPort does not provide enough power for a display.

Will this allow a portable desktop to use a single cable USB-C (DP over USB-C) monitor? Will it supply the power to power the monitor as well as the signal?

BEST ANSWER: DisplayPort does not carry enough power for a display. You'll want something like the Wacom Link Plus or Huawei VR 2 Computer Connection Cable.

BEST ANSWER: FWIW, I’ve only used it connected to usb-c on my MacBookPro and display port on a monitor (non-Apple).
On apples site for that monitor, they do say this: “If you're using a DisplayPort cable with your display, use a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter or cable.” Which would suggest this cable is exactly what you need.
The cable is bidirectional, so if it works for my use case, it should work for yours.
Best of luck!

does anyone know if this will work: Mac mini (late 2019 model) connected via Thunderbolt 3 cable to EGPU + 5700XT connected to LG 5K Ultrafine via this cable? Based on everything I have read this should work perfectly fine for displaying the video and audio signal but what about the downlink from the LG 5K monitor for the builtin webcam and microphone?

Do not buy unless you like to gamble
I originally purchased two of these cables, but one broke shortly after purchase. I RMA-ed it and the next one also came dysfunctional. The QA on these cables seems to be very poor.

It works both ways
It is a little silly how hard it was to find just a displayport cable with full sized DP on one end and usb-c style for the other end that is bidirectional! This is exactly that. It can be used to connect an video card with full size DP connections to a new monitor with usb-c style DP ports. Then I can use it on a new laptop with usb-c style connectors and connect it to an older monitor with full sized DP connections.

Works like a charm
If you are planning on using a Display port KVM or a 4k monitor, you'll want this. Hook it directly up to your laptop or KVM, and you should be good to go. I'd urge against using this in conjunction with a plugable docking station or any sort of adapter, otherwise you're going to be running a 30hz 4k or it simply won't work. At least that was the case in Linux; I had no such difficulty with my windows gaming PC, but of course I use a video card with display ports directly, and have no issue there.

It works!
What else can I say? It works great going from my System76 Meerkat to an LG 27" 4K monitor. Previously I was using a DisplayPort -> DisplayPort cable with a USB C adapter but there was a lot of flashing. This cable eliminated that problem

Does not work with Asus XG17 monitor.
This cable is not bi-directional. It will not do DisplayPort to USB-C for the new Asus XG17 monitor.

Flimsy ends, totally busted after a 3 months
Cable is nicely braided, seems like decent construction. But, the USC-C end is loose in its housing, and the metal connector was rocking around, disconnecting at the slightest bump. The problem get getting worse until one day it stopped working altogether.
