Is this exclusively for cable? I moved to an area that ONLY has DSL has an option and would love to improve the range.

BEST ANSWER: No, you can use any provider, cable, DSL, even satellite. But you have to have their connection first. That connects you to the internet, but you'll need an Ethernet port out of their device to connect to this product. Then you can access your providers modem and turn OFF their Wi Fi for it. I have found this Mesh system to provide a lot faster speeds from it vs. my DSL modem Wi Fi. Definitely two thumbs up!

This should work with both Cable and DSL models. This provides a separate WiFii network from your internet service provider. You will need a wired connection from your DSL modem to the base station of this product. Most home cable and DSL modems have a "LAN" port on them for this. Just attach this device to the LAN port and then configure it as per the instructions.

No. It should work on either system. You just have to attach the network cable from your DSL modem to one of the 3 units. That unit will be the "base unit"

I used this system to replace my cable company issued router. Of the three units, one becomes the new router...set up this first according to instructions . Then set up the other two. I suggest you go online for the instructions as the book provided has very small print. System works fine.

one of the units is a base unit. It physically plugs into a router or switch. The other 2 units get their signal brom the base unit. It just becomes another leg on the original network

BEST ANSWER: After using this system in a few different configs, I would not reccomend trying to use it in tandem with other routers. Now, if your router is also your modem, you could flip it modem only mode, and this would be a great solution. I have this system and use it together with Xfinity. I have had it for several months and am pretty pleased with it. The base unit is connected to the Xfi router via ethernet in my office at one end of the house. I originally tried to set up the system using the same SSID name as the one I use with Xfinity and found that keeping a separate name for the Mesh system worked better so I can be sure to connect to the right unit depending on where in the house I am. It does sound like your house is larger than mine ( I am in an 1800sq ft one-level home), but if you can get the units placed within reasonable distance of each other, it might work for you as well. I can't speak to the quality of the signal strength as opposed to other mesh systems since this is the only one I have tried, but as I said, this has worked well for my needs. Good luck!

Can this router support 1000mb pppoe throughput on the WAN port?
A shopper
on Nov 22, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The router supports up to 1000mb pppoe on the WAN port but I would expect some bottle necking depending on the state of the network, and CPU usage overall.

Can I change the DHCP range? Can I set up DHCP reservations?
Tom C
on Nov 22, 2019
BEST ANSWER: You can change the Range. Thus far, can't find a way to make any reservations. This would help a lot since this may be the reason why my Robot Vacuum keeps dropping off the network.

I don't love it
Setting up was easy and simple. If you want something simple to get you up and going, maybe this is for you. I have a slightly more sophisticated setup than just a modem to wifi, so this would not work for me. You can't install a vpn on the router to protect your whole house. You can't put these in pass-through mode so that a more intelligent device can direct traffic for you. There are no firmware updates. If these things don't matter to you, get this. There are better devices for the same money, but it isn't bad for what it is I guess. Just wasn't for me.

Fail - Support and Equipment
Purchased MESH device (Router and two Satellite) to relocate Security Camera DVR from second floor to Internet modem on first.
Support team were unable to make connection with Security Camera DVR. They were unable to get satellite to connect to MESH Router. Had no suggestions for NETWORK format and setup.
Since I purchased the system 6 months in advance to get ready for the big move. When I finally got around to connecting system, warranty had expired - on new - never used equipment.
One sat3llite never worked, and MONOPRICE would not stand behind the new equipment - and exchange it.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND DEVICE - DUE TO EQUIPMENT QUALITY AND LACK OF PROPCER INDEPTH DEVICE SUPPORT.
MY BAD - I HAVE A BOX OF MONOPRICE EQUIPMENT THAT NEVER WORKED, AND THEY WOULD STAND BEHIND repairs or support. I WAS A DOPE FOR THINKING MONO HAD CHANGED.
I will probabLy junk the whole system, and get a new setup.. I need to expand my MESH network, but not with Monoprice.

Doesn't allow VLAN tagging so it is not compatible with my ISP
If your ISP requires VLAN tagging, this system has no setting for this.
The interface is very limited and doesn't have many of the settings I require for my network.

Slow Mesh if that is fine for you.
Hello
After I was able to get it set up. Tried to use my own internal IP scheme, Didn't work. I found the the Transfer Rate was Much Less that my own Created Mesh. So I had to RMA it. If Slow is what you want, It works.

I took a chance and it worked out
Was annoyed about the reception on the opposite end of the house and the $15 per month I was paying my internet provider for the modem/router. I bought a modern separately (Motorola) and got this router from Monoprice. It was easy to set up and now I get a strong signal everywhere in my house. The extenders are just plug and play.

I works but not as well as I had hoped. At least initially!
The packaging and equipment equipment looks good and feels like good quality materials were used in its production. The setup was simple enough although you need a microscope to be able to read the instruction manual that looks like it could have been designed to fit inside of a fortune cookie. The unit does work but I was skeptical about its ability to extend the wi-fi signal within our home. My skepticism was borne out when the satellite unit situated in a nearly perfect line of sight from the base at a distance of approximately 20 feet could not get a solid blue indication. But it does work and I've only begun to use it so I don't know how it will perform in the long run. Check back in a couple of months.

Has Improved My Coverage
This system works well although I am still experimenting with each unit's location in order to optimize its performance. The great thing is that my WiFi speeds have almost tripled with has made streaming work perfectly even during high use times.

Did not work in my house. Did not work even one room over. And keep going off and on. I woven them them all over. Had to send them back. Might be ok for a very small house or apt.
