Hello , what is the input watts / ohms range for these speakers ? Thank you .
New User U

These speaker do not accept amplified speaker input, these use standard line-in speaker inputs. As far as ohms goes, that is a question for the manufacturer. Contact Monoprice Tech Support and have them submit the question to the manufacturer for you.

What subwoofer would you recommend for this speakers?
New User U
on Nov 12, 2021
BEST ANSWER: I have the basic $100 12" sub that monoprice offers. I run that, and think that it sounds phenomenal for the money spent. I stuffed the port with a rolled towel because I wanted it to be punchier, less boomy, and it sounds great. Really solid. But I think if you wanted to spend the money, the upgraded 10 or 12 could offer offer even more. To be fair though, these monitors have unreal bass response for their size - they play down really low

Remember, these are compact speakers with a peak watt output around 100 watts total. While they sound EXCELLENT, you do not want to overwhelm them with a to powerful subwoofer.
I would think that the
Monoprice SW-10 10" 150 Watt RMS (300 Watt Peak) Powered Subwoofer
would be a perfect companion for most audio and video applications.

Also, the bass output of these speakers is EXCELLENT and a lot better than I expected. Even without a subwoofer, unless you need/want very deep, low bass you probably will not need a subwoofer.

I'm sure others will be able to recommend one, but honestly; these things pump out amazing sound. I too wanted these so I could add a sub, but they sound so good, I've decided against a sub.
I would suggest purchasing on their own... then see if you *want* to add a sub. I do not think you will *need* one. :)

why does the mm-5 connect the 2nd speaker with 2 wires and the mm-3 use a multi-pin cable?
A shopper
on Feb 29, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The MM-3 is lower wattage and does not need as thick of a cable. The MM-5 can drive up to 100W (according to specs) and need a thicker speaker cable. They probably used that cable for the MM-3 because someone had a surplus already manufactured and nothing else to use it for.
The speaker wire the MM-5 comes with is a bit thin for their claimed wattage. It's a good idea to replace it with a thicker one.

What is the length of the proprietary cable that connects one speaker to the other? Is there any way to extend this as well?
Richard R
on May 2, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The MM5 DOES NOT use a proprietary cable, it uses regular speaker wire, the choice of gauge is yours.
Based on a couple months listening to these speakers and their very high quality sound, I recommend the best speaker cable that you can afford.
I personally would not use anything less than 14 gauge speaker cable for shorter runs, and 12 gauge speaker cable for longer runs.
I would not even consider using the small (TINY) gauge speaker wire that is included, other than to just verify functionality when you first get them.
If you buy these, you will not be disappointed!!!!!

I beg to differ. I currently have a pair of PreSonus Eris E5 studio monitors, and even with/without ground isolation there is audible audio interference from my monitor array (Viewsonic and Asus 23" LCDs). Interference intensity and volume is directly relatable to relative positions of monitors and speakers with maximum interference when speaker front plane is even with monitor and decresing as I mmove speakers forward in front of screen plane.

Brian S., I completely agree with your question, and your confusion.
Although it does not specifically mention the phrase "bi-amped", It is very clearly implied when it is stated in the specs:
Woofer Amplifier Output Power2x 65 watts
Tweeter Amplifier Output Power2x 35 watts
I added these to my cart, and was ready to checkout, when I noticed a VERY CLEAR error in the specs.
To Monoprice, PLEASE RESPOND!!!
How can there be separate amplification for the woofer and separate amplification for the tweeter in each speaker when there is only ONE TWO-WIRE speaker connection for the second speaker???
AND what is the RMS wattage output for these speakers???

BEST ANSWER: Banana plugs work great on these speakers. Although gage is not the primary measure of a good sounding speaker cable in high current systems larger wire diameters (lower gage numbers) can provide less electrical resistance to current flow. I am using a high strand count 10AWG wire between my pair and seems to perform well, much better that the provided 16AWG wire provided with the speakers

Cant find it on Amazon, rare find & a Very good Buy !
a. very reasonably priced having all great features including Aptx-HD
b. Aptx-HD at 24-bit/192 kbs works great, you just need right streaming service to send (bluetooth /Airplay) the hi-res content to speakers
c. tested all inputs and they all work fine. Particularly Optical with TV and Bluetooth works great. Tested Chromecast, but I don't need it w/ high quality streaming w/ AptX-HD built in.
d. Overall sound quality is great, much better than JBL 3.1 soundbar and Sonos Beam i tested with. (probably not as immersive as Atmos Speakers or surround speakers)
e. Built-in Bass is very good, however i connected a cheap sub to process frequencies below 80Hz. Overall combination sounds fantastic.
f. Finally, I am have good ears for Country/Classic Rock/Classical/Easy listening type of music, but not expensive ears (so called audiophile), with that being said, these are a very good execution from Monoprice Team. Currently using it for TV and Streaming music, these sound GREAT in both combinations.
Since i only paid ~$200, cant complain much, but remote can have some improvements and/or possibly an App in the future would be great.
Currently using it for TV and Streaming music, these sound GREAT in both combinations.

solid product
I wanted some active speakers to connect to my pc and xbox/TV setup in my office. These are solid speakers for the money. They look, feel, and sound great. My only gripe is that, even with the selector on ON/STANDBY, I have to turn on the speaker and select the source. I have a comparable unit from another brand that automatically wakes up when a signal is detected regardless of input.

Worth the money!
Monoprice is all about value and if you throw a little more money at their higher end products, you get even more value. These are bigger than I thought they would be but I have a pretty big desk so it's all good. Sound is super clear and clean on the high end and they have good bass. I got their 8" pro sub and I probably didn't need it. I'd say try them without a sub first. Excellent fidelity from these guys. Get em while you can.

Buy these, you will not be disappointed!!
I have had these speakers for 7 months.
They have performed flawlessly.
When I first turned them on, the sound quality blew me away!!
I like that you are not forced to use a low-quality propriety cable to connect the speakers together, you can use good quality speaker cable.
The speakers have plenty of bass, in most cases you will not need a subwoofer.
The bass/midrange/treble is well balanced.
There is a bass and treble adjustment on the remote, as well as ?source?, tone defeat, ?pair?, mute and On/Standby.
If I could, the only change that I would make would be to add more RMS power because the woofers have the capability to handle much more power and it would prevent ?clipping? on bass-heavy material. Don?t get me wrong, these are powerful, great sounding speakers they would just benefit from more RMS power. I would also add a balance control.

I would buy again.
They are good for bookshelf speakers on stands yet not quiet suitable for desktop speakers. The supplied speaker wire is a little short to place these on stands around a desk. Placing these on a desk negatively effects the sound and really need to be on stands.
They worked perfect as TV speakers (on a smaller screen tv, probably less than 50") on stands and offer far better sound than available from budget sound bars. I would buy again and would recommend for the use-cases mentioned.
Note, I tried using other speaker wire since these have banana plugs in the binding posts but the output of the left speaker changes (since its the non-powered slave). Unless you can change the balance in software or in your tv's setting then you are stuck with the supplied speaker wire length until you go through trial and error to find a replacement wire.

Great speakers
Just a quick note; these sound amazing/great/fantastic. Pump out a ton of sound. My only suggestion is to pay attention to the size. I knew what I was getting into, but it's one thing to measure and put down tape ? it's another when they come and you see them in person. They are pretty, pretty, big.

Don't fall for the Marketing Hype
How can you say that these speakers are BiAmp'd? Marketing separate amps,65w for the woofers and 35w for the tweeters. This would mean an active or passive line-level crossover in the audio path prior to the Amps, then each amp wired directly to its dedicated target drivers. This is an impossibility when there is only one speaker cable connected to the second speaker box, it would require a pair. This is only the misleading of the marketing/advertised falsehoods. I bought a pair and they do sound good through the upper midrange but have very laid back/subdued high end. They produce good output levels and have a very balanced sound up to the point where they seem vale the upper registers. They are still a decent price sound value, they put out a very consistent quality sound from all inputs (USB is my preference) but the marketing is very misleading.

When you play music with them, they be all like DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF DOOF (in a good way)
Pretty incredible sound for the price. Exceeded expectations. I added a 12in monoprice sub and I can now spin records with sound loud and clean enough to make my girlfriend consider leaving me regularly
