What color are the tube and vu lights?

BEST ANSWER: The tubes have blue LEDs under them so they have a pleasing glow
Don't remember the GU meter color as I sold it and replaced it with a 300B SET.
I really like that little amp especially with sensitive speakers e. g. Klipsch
Be aware the tubes are in the preamp section and the solid state amp section distors easily

The four tubes have blue LED illumination, as does the power button and the VU meter. The tubes themselves have an amber color. It appears to me that each tube has multiple small blue LEDs so that a blue ring appears from below.

A nice blue color. I wanted to let you know this one's a little updated and you now can control the subwoofer amp output with the volume control. Before you could only control the volume from the subwoofer.

i want to use this amp with my turn table. I assume i plug the turn table into the "aux" imput? Since my turn table does not have a preamp, do i need one of those also? I thought the Tube stage of the amp was a preamp but now i'm wondering? Thanks in advance for your response.

BEST ANSWER: More than likely you would/should need a preamp that has RIAA equalization. Since when the recording is mastered to the vinyl, there is not a flat EQ setting pressed to the phonograph disk. Type RIAA at wiki for the reason why.
The audio input on the back is for a line level CD player or MP3 player. These devices out put what should be going into an input that does not have the RIAA EQ. Back in the day, all Hi-Fi receivers had a dedicated Phono input with the RIAA curve built in, Now not so much! If you buy a preamp make sure that it has a RIAA EQ curve built in, otherwise your records will sound quite thin, no bass no boom!

It is true that this is an “integrated” amplifier, meaning it is both a line-stage preamp and a power amp. But, it is not a phono preamp. Vinyl playback requires more gain in order to amplify the tiny voltages produced by the turntable’s cartridge. More importantly, a separate phono preamp has the proper equalization (the inverse RIAA curve) to accurately reproduce what was recorded on the vinyl. This is not included in this integrated amp, and vinyl playback will be overly bright and lack bass.

Yes, you need a preamp for your turntable. Many modern turntables have one built in, but older ones don’t. The tube stage is a preamp—you have to go to the pure tube amp at mono price for tubes in the amp stage.

Has anyone been able to successfully make their subwoofer work with this amp? the amp has 2 subout ports. do i use those ports as Left / Right ports or do i use a y cable to connect to one of the ports and then the left / right on my subwoofer? Are all 4 tubes suppose to light up? We are hearing static when playing a cd and the 2 middle tubes are not lit up
A shopper
on Sep 12, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes, all tubes light up - some brighter than others. Depends on how much is running through each channel. The problem could be your RCA cords from the playback device to the amplifier. Those cords will hummm if not good cords. Spend some money on good RCA cords, and make sure your turntable is grounded. There should be absolutely no hummm.

Yes they are. The center tubes are the “power tubes”. Does the static vary when volume is changed? Using a bit of cloth so as not to touch the tubes with bare skin do they push done? Push lightly not too forcefully. Please advise on this. I can advise further.

BEST ANSWER: The built in phono preamp will work with this amplifier, just make sure the switch is on the line out position to connect your turntable to any external device that doesn't have it's own phono preamp input. If you're interested in what your turntable is capable of producing musically then I would invest in an external phono preamp to fully bring out the nuances of whatever cartridge you're using. The cartridge along with the phono preamp have the biggest impact on the sound quality of a turntable's performance

Your turntable's built in preamp will work to connect it to this amplifier. Just make sure it's in the line out position for connecting it to any external receiver or amplifier that doesn't have a dedicated phono input. I use an external vacuum tube phono preamp that's has better phono equalization and filtering than the one that's built into mine

I’m an electrician in the US and if this amplifier is rated for 120volts it will not work plugging into their 240 volt receptacles. They make power inverters.that can be bought but typically very pricy and not practical. The wiring specs for this amplifier is only rated for 120 volts

This little receiver doesn’t have main in or pre out connects, so it might not work like you want it to. No way to bridge other than splitting a channel from your source and running it to the left and right inputs. Output would still be two speaker terminals.

I have the Monoprice 8" powered subwoofer and have the speaker connected to the RCA sub out ports of this unit, but the line output does not vary with the amplifier volume. Is this how it's supposed to work? Can't imagine it being very useful if the volume needs to be adjusted on the sub every time the volume is changed on the amplifier.

Monoprice 25 Watt Stereo Hybrid Tube Amplifier with Bluetooth, Optical, Coaxial, and USB Inputs, and Subwoofer Out
Monoprice SSW-8 8in 100-Watt Powered Slim Subwoofer
BEST ANSWER: First thing to clarify is that the RCA connectors on the sub are Line In ports, not sub out ports. The question that needs to be answered is to what port on your amplifier do you have the RCA connectors on the sub connected?
You have three choices that will provide amplifier volume adjustments to the sub.
1) If your amplifier has a Sub Out jack, I suggest you use that. Typically the sub out jack on an amplifier is a single RCA connector. If this is your case, then you should use a splitter cable so you can connect to both of the RCA connectors on the sub. Using the sub out port on your amplifier will send only low frequencies to the sub (according the the specifications of your amplifier). If you use this method, then you should NOT use the speaker outputs on the sub to connect to your main L & R speakers. For me, this is the preferred method.
2) The second method you can use, is to connect your main L & R speaker outputs from your amplifier to the RCA Line In connectors on the sub. You can use this method both if your amplifier HAS a sub out connector, and if your amplifier DOES NOT have a sub out connector. In this case, you can connect your main L & R speakers to the speaker connectors on the sub because the sub will be receiving a full spectrum signal from your amp, although you don't have to. You can still connect the main L & R speakers apart from the sub.
3) The third method can be used if your amplifier does NOT have a sub out connector and yo do not want to connect the Main L & R speaker outputs to the sub. In this case, use the Tape Out connectors (or any Record Out connectors) on your amplifier to connect to the Line In RCA ports on the sub. This will provide Line level volume control to the sub.
All three of these methods should provide line level volume control to the sub that will adjust up and down along with the L & R speakers. I hope this helps.

If you have a sub with L and R Sub-In ports then connect both to your L and R Sub-out ports on the amp. If your sub has only one Sub-in port then use a Y connector on the sub and both Sub-out ports on the amp.
But that's the problem. the 2 ports on the amp are not labled L or R and both of them are RED. not one red one white.

What amp do you have? This conversation links to the Monoprice 25 Watt Tube Amp. The connections on that amp look like they are both black, but look to me that one is L and one is R. Sub out on an amp should have volume control. I should ask what is the use? Music? If music, then using the speaker outputs of the amp to the speaker inputs on the sub would be best.
thanks for your answers and your time. i finally took a chance and got it working. i hooked one RCA cable to one of the subout ports on the amp and the RED input port on the subwoofer. it works BUT of course no volume on the subwoofer from the amp volume adjustment to fixing that is my next step.

This is truly a problem of the amplifier, not the subwoofer. However one can avoid this problem by using speaker line in with a little more complicated connection.

There is no way to know until u try. Your sub of course must be self-powered, and being from a car, it will require a beefy 12V supply, and has a crossover knob, because this amp can't power a passive subs nor does it have built-in bass management. All-in-all, a chore, but is possible.

I would not recomend it as you would need a seperate sub amp unless you have a powered amp, then you would also need a 12 volt transformer. All this can be done but would defeat the purpose of a minimalistic retro look. Try getting a home sub i use a dayton audio and i love it.

Does this updated unit use the same tubes as the original hybrid? I have upgraded tubes that made that unit sound amazing. An accidental crossing of wires caused one channel to blow out. I'm thinking about possibly buying this 2019 version (sub outs a great add) and I'd like to know if this 2019 upgrade is using the same tubes. This would mean I can roll in my upgraded tubes and feel confident there won't be any issues.

Monoprice 25 Watt Stereo Hybrid Tube Amplifier with Bluetooth, Optical, Coaxial, and USB Inputs, and Subwoofer Out
Monoprice 25 Watt Stereo Hybrid Tube Amplifier with Bluetooth
BEST ANSWER: Sorry to hear about your problem with the first amplifier - mine has been performing perfectly, even with the stock tubes. The new model with it's added features looks like a terrific buy. I'd proceed cautiously, though. The "original" used 6N1 tubes in the preamp section and 6P15 in the power output section - I assume Chinese made. The product listing for the upgraded model does not specify the tube set - there's no assurance that your current upgraded tubes will be a safe or usable replacement for the stock tubes. When engineers design new features in a product it gives them the opportunity improve upon what they designed the first time - tubes included. See if you can get clarification from the product support people at Monoprice regarding the tubes in the upgraded model. Also, confirm that the unit is self-biasing when it come to tube bias - I'll assume it is, as with the original. Tube biasing in hi-fi equipment is a more critical issue than it is in guitar amps. For $134, with those features, it's a great deal - and your original is fried. I won't worry too much if your upgraded tubes are a lost investment. If you buy the new unit, do your homework, and know what your replacing. Best of luck!

So I’ve let go of this model. I may just buy a new one of the original.

How can I connect a computer's usb out put to the amplifier?

BEST ANSWER: The USB port on your PC is not an output. USB connections can only have one host, the ports on the amp and on your PC are hosts, so even if you had a cable to connect the two, they would not work. You will need to connect your PC via optical, digital (RCA connector) or by getting a headphone to RCA converter.

Don't hold me to it but based on price point and general feedbacks of this unit, I wager you don't get sophisticated base management control on this puppy. I wager full rage output on both, and relies on your sub to do the cross-over.

A shopper
on Dec 8, 2019
The "4~16" means the amp is rated to work with speakers with 4 through 16 ohm ratings, although I see no reason you can't go higher since it only reduces the power output and lessens the load on the amp. However, going lower forces the amp to push more wattage than it's designed for.

There is an internal D/A converter that turns the digital signals (toslink, bluetooth, coax) into analog, which are then amplified by the amplifier section (tubes).

Versatile, Economical, Compact.
Very versatile and economical amplifier. Granted, I bought it for the vintage style and compact design, but the performance and audio quality is impressive when I tested it using turntable, SACD player, etc., and some "better than average" speakers. My everyday use is the USB source with Klipsch bookshelves, and 8" subwoofer and the result is better than expected, even with the less than optimal source material. 5-stars.

Nice little amp
Very versatile amp with nice useful options . Only thing I would improve is amount of power . If you have a file , song , video ... with low recorded volume it could be too low to enjoy specially if in louder environment . Also has a headphone jack but the sound for headphones is not the greatest . I'm giving it 4 stars because of what you get for the price .

Prefer auxiliary, not cd/Dvd audio input.
I tried this amp on a friend's audio amp. The optical input worked well. But I could not use the attached FM tuner, because it's audio is not in CD/DVD format. The phono input is much to loud for auxiliary audio. Perhaps a switch could be installed to bypass the phono section when one does not have a preamplified phono. One could also switch off the RIAA equilizer, making the phono input a microphone input. Maybe an adapter could be made for the usb port so that it could receive auxilliary audio.

Thanks
For the price the Monoprice 25 watt stereo hybrid tube amplifier is well worth it. It is visually stunning. neon like blue lights illuminate its tubes, power switch, and VU meter readout glass. A high-tech retrofit vibe. I purchased it to connect a bass speaker and I couldn't be more pleased with the sound!

Worth it for the tubes.
Looks good, functions OK as a headphone amp.
DAC is very limited and sounds cheap.
At the price, it?s still a bargain. Can hardly buy the tubes for that.

Probably a bit underpowered for me...
I took a flyer on this purchase and overall I?m pretty satisfied with it, just need to make a few more tweaks to the setup. It definitely sounds good, it?s just a bit underpowered for me, but considering how often my wife is asking me to turn things down, that?s not necessarily a bad thing! Plenty of input options, including phono, line and optical, as well as a subwoofer out. Pretty cool looking as well! So for the price, I guess you can say I?m good with it all!
