will this connect a HDMI input TV to a ethernet source? We have a TV with no ethernet inputs can it be hooked to a ethernet router to get TV content?

BEST ANSWER: Enter an answer to this question. The short answer is no, unfortunately. This adapter is designed to bring Ethernet into a device that has a USB-C connector. There would be no way to connect your TV, unless it has a USB-C in port. I think it is time to get a new TV with all of the modern inputs and outputs. However, Monoprice may have an adapter that would connect Ethernet to RCA jack inputs, that are colored Red, Yellow, and White. If your TV has those.

So if I'm understanding correctly, you want to connect a non-smart TV up to a router to access streaming services like Netflix. This is not the right product for that. You'll need a computer or something else that can directly access the internet (probably using an Ethernet cable to your router). That device can then be connected directly to the TV with an HDMI cable.

No, there is no correlation between an HDMI input and an ethernet input - one represents data and video - the HDMI - and the other is data which is interpreted by a NIC or network interface card. You TV has no NIC and therefore can't use that specific data signal. Best to use a Roku or Apple TV type of appliance that can interpret and find content for you.

I don't think that's possible. This connects to a computer with USB-C inputs, like the macbook pro that only has USB-C inputs, and adds additional inputs (like HDMI or ethernet) to that computer only.

It will allow you to output your PC to a TV with HDMI, so you could do it, but it won't make your TV a Smart TV.

Ideal for my purposes
It has all the features I wanted, and it does not heat up as much as some similar adapters that I had been using.

Great price for a consolidator of cords/connections!
Great purchase for the discounted price, but runs hot most all the time the laptop is on. Not burn your hands kind of hot, but definitely noticeable enough to where I don't really leave it with papers on top of it just in case. So far, so good with connections to my external HDMI TV that was re-purposed as a 2nd screen for my MBP 2018. Very handy to have the miniSD & SD card inputs for me with everything else that I do or may use.

Fantastic travel hub
Nice solid construction and a useful set of ports. Havent done any benchmarks, but USB SSDs connected to it seem to run at high throughput.

Really nice little adapter. The performance is really good. My only gripe with it is the machining around the ports could have been a little better. The HDMI port is a little tight and you can feel the metal rubbing against it when you plug it in. The Ethernet port is pretty difficult to unplug because the tab gets lodged in there so well, it's hard to get it to release.

Excellent Miniature Docking Station
It’s like a mini docking station, with monitor, network, and power all with one connection. It work as advertised; i.e., great. I like it a lot, because it has the ideal compliment of connections for me, and because it matches the Apple “Space Gray” finish. One thing to be aware of: if you plan to use the power pass-through in any given session, connect that before any USB devices or cards. This is because connecting the power pass-through seems to power-cycle any connected devices. I plugged it in during a file transfer, and the transfer spontaneously aborted. I don’t see this as a big deal, but keep it it mind if you buy one.
