Is the 1100w unit WiFi?
A shopper
on Jan 12, 2020
BEST ANSWER: They make two 1100w versions. The stainless and black version is not wifi. I have 2 of these and they have been good for me. They have a newer white and black unit that works on their "Stitch" platform and can be controlled via an app.

No it is not WiFi-enabled. But I have never needed it to be either. You have to be there to put the food into the water and to take it out of the water. Between those times it happily runs maintaining its set temperature.

Does rhe food have to be in Vacuum bag?
George D
on Oct 28, 2021
BEST ANSWER: No. Use the “water immersion” method. Place the food in a zipper lock bag and lower the bagged food into a bowl of water, letting the pressure of the water press air through the top of the bag. Seal the bag once most of the air has been forced out.

No, You can use a zip lock freezer bag and the water displacement method to seal the food (google water displacement sous vide) but a vacuume sealer is not very expensive and works much better.

That is a major concept in sous vide cooking, the foot is isolated from the water in a container that excludes air. It doesn’t need to be vacuum sealed, just remove all of the air.

Nope - we use freezer ziplocks and slowly submerge it to squeeze the air out and zip it shut. EZ

Which would be better, the 800 watt or the 1100 watt?
A shopper
on Dec 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I own both and I love them both. The 1100-watt unit heats the water up a lot faster than the 800-watt model, but once the water is heated, they both operate the same. The other difference is that the 800-watt model has a roller-type switch to adjust the temperature whereas the 1100-watt model has soft touch buttons to adjust the temperature. I also own a fancier sous vide from another manufacturer, but it needs an app to control it; I love how these can be used anywhere manually without a phone/tablet. I use them a lot when we go camping to reheat food. I will pre-cook a bunch of food then drop them in a 140 degree bath for an hour to get them back up to serving temp without over cooking the food.

Hello. I purchased the 1100 Watt model last Christmas. I would definitely recommend the higher wattage. The extra power allows more flexibility with the volume of water and items you are cooking.

I would get the larger one. You can always use whatever size container you need and the higher power would let you size up and do more food at a consistent temperature for a larger dinner.

I went with the 1100 watt myself. I wanted to have enough heating power for larger preparations just as my smaller ones. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

For small amounts of food the 800 watt should be sufficient. If you want to do large amounts of food (our grandson did a whole turkey by de-boning first) I would go with the 1100 watt.

How to adjust temperatures?
Samuel J D

BEST ANSWER: The unit starts with a preset temperature from the last time you used it. to change the temp, , simply use the + and - buttons to increase or decrease. The new target temperature displays of the screen.
I 100% recommend this unit. It makes fantastic steaks, hams, tenderloins, pork loins and lamb chops, as long as you do a final sear before serving (using either a grill, cast iron skillet or torch)

Is there a support ring like the 800w version so it can be mounted into a hole cut into the top of the container? If there is a rind, it looks much smaller than the 800w version and I'm not sure it would be supportive enough?

BEST ANSWER: Both the 800W and 1100W versions have an adjustable clamp that attaches the sous vide immersion cooker to the top rim of a cooking pot or other similar container that holds the water bath the food is cooked in. The clamp for both versions is adequate to hold the immersion cooker in place.

GREAT PRODUCT
This was my second purchase of this same model sous vide cooker. The first cooker is still going strong but I needed a second so I bought one without hesitation due to the performance. I've had the first unit for one year.
I use these cookers for making yogurt. They run continuously for 36 hours during the culturing period and I make 2-3 batches a week. They get a real workout and hard use but they never fail.
Both units maintain the temperature within +/- .5 degrees F during the entire culturing process. That's one half a degree or less!
Water circulation is constant and strong enough to keep the water swirling around the yogurt jars.
Controls are simple and easily accessible and it is no problem to change settings if needed.
I don't need another right now but I would not hesitate to buy one again if need be.
I can't speak to Monoprice customer service as I've never had to call them because I have had ZERO problems.

Less expensive without sacrificing quality
I sous vide food a lot, mostly chicken, and my Anova recently gave out so I thought I'd buy this alternative brand, thinking that at least it's cheap (only about half the price!). So far, it hasn't given me any issues. It does heat up the water faster than my old Anova, and I've noticed it is slightly louder but not by much.
I also like the fact that it has manual controls, which is why I bought this instead of the Joule. It's nice to be able to start, stop, and see how hot it is without having to refer to some smartphone app.
Wonderful gadget that's cheaper than the competition.

Better than pricier brands
Better than both the Anova Sous Vides I own at a much lower price. It?s much quieter (it?s basically completely silent) vs loud. It heats the water up much more quickly. The buttons on this one are a little bit clunky compared to Anova (but it isn?t a bother), and it doesn?t connect to Wi-Fi (but again?no bother?I don?t need to use an app to sous vide, because I need to be next to it to drop food in, etc anyway). Strata Home is fantastic.
