does this printer have an auto bed leveller?
A shopper
on Dec 21, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The quick answer is yes, it has an "auto-level" function under the "tune" menu. Once you have calibrated the bed, the auto-level samples the bed at more than a dozen points across the build plate. Touch the button prior to a print and it goes to town.
But, before that is handy, you must calibrate the bed to nozzle height by using a piece of paper (plain printer paper works fine). You run the z-axis down until either hitting the z-stop or the bed, then up just a hair to be able to slide a sheet of paper between the nozzle and the bed (you should have just slight resistance when sliding the paper). Once that height is set in the corner, use slide along the x and y axes around the bed and use the thumb screws under the bed to adjust the pressure to just get the proper resistance on the paper. (You can see a good video of the process on Dr. Vax's YouTube channel)
I have have found that once you have done this calibration that setting your z-offset to -0.25mm to -0.23mm is the sweet spot for running your MP10. Good luck and happy printing.

Yes this printer does have an autolevel function. However, some manual tweaking is still needed. Mainly the bedspring tension since it will loosen a bit over time and global offsets depending on material being used, but once the values are dialed in they are pretty cut and paste from there forward.

Does this have a filament detector? If the filament runs out mid-job, will the printer pause?

The pictures show the bowden coming off from the left side there in that wrap, and there's no motor on the extruder assembly looks like. I think they're just referring to that last picture where it looks like the whole thing just snaps on magnetically.

The extruder, with the motor, on the left of the printer, is bolted on.. The hotend, connected with a Bowden tube, is magnetically attached. However this doesn't in any way ease maintenance as the functional parts of the hotend are trapped by wires.

I've set up my MP10 and utilized the assistance on a YouTube helper to fix the Cura 4.0 MP10 settings issues. With Cura, the print starts way too high. With the new gCode start and stop instructions, the first layer finally sticks, so that's a win. On to my questions:
What can I do to figure out why my prints get about halfway completed and the become dislodged from the bed? The raft is nice and adhered to the plate when the actual print begins, but somewhere along the line it gets pulled up and the print is ruined.

BEST ANSWER: What material are you using? Some material like ABS can warp if not in a controlled environment. Also, the bed temperature should be set for whatever material you're using. For me I use a lot of PETG and set the nozzle at 230 and the bed at 70. For ABS I use 250 and 85 inside of an enclosure. Also might want to play with the raft height/layers.

Does the MP10 have a power loss/resume function ?
A shopper
on Jan 15, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it does have such a function (as does the Malyan MA-10 which this is a rebadge of.) This works only if you print from the MicroSD card, though. After the power is restored, go back to the print menu and you'll find a RECOVERY.BIN file there. Select that. The printer will then resume from where it left off.

It seems like maybe the function is present but isn't fully implemented. If the printer loses power, a recovery.bin file is created on the SD card, but running the file just homes the printer axes and then pauses indefinitely. I've tested several times.

How many sets of rollers does it have for the build plate? I'm returning a Maker Pro Mk1 mostly due to it only having 2 on either side, which makes it constantly wobble while printing and am considering this as a replacement.

MP10 300x300mm Build Plate 3D Printer (Open Box)
BEST ANSWER: Yes, but you will probably need to upgrade the extruder and nozzle because PMMA has a tendancy to crystalize and fracture easily if the temperatures are not stable in the nozzle and Brass does not stabilize very well, I use a copper nozzle with a nickle coating to print advanced materials such as PMMA. the removable head on the printer makes it easy to swap nozzles.

What is the update.bin procedure, other than using Cura?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
You would use Cura to upgrade the firmware.
Simply place the bin file in the SD card and open it in the print menu.

Does anyone know if this printer has thermal runaway protection? I get a little worried setting it for a 30 hour print and going to sleep.

Can you switch the nozzle from 0.4 to a 0.2, or a 0.3, or even a 0.5?

BEST ANSWER: You can switch the nozzles fairly easily and all of those sizes should work. You just need to make sure the settings on your slicing software are set for the correct nozzle size. I hope this helps.

One more thing, my son and I are 3D printer noobs, but I have to say the customer service we have received from monoprice is fantastic. They have been more than willing to help us work through some of the issues we have had (issues that have probably been due to our own doing)

I had 2 problems, 1 the auto leveling didn't work, sent back. 2- could not work on cura 4.x, tried cura 4.0 , wouldn't work on Windows 11. returned.

A lot better than I was lead to believe
Much better than I expected, with print quality and ease of use equal to my Longer LK5 Pro and Ender 3. It was packed reasonably well, assembly was very quick and easy, auto leveling works well so far (some say the probe fails), I didn't even bother leveling the bed manually after putting it together, just had to dial in my z offset. I do wish it had silent drivers and a dual z axis but beggars can't be choosers at the sale price I got it at. I like the detachable hot end and so far no jams though some say it can be an issue. The extruder itself is a weak link that I will be replacing but so far it doesn't appear I'm having any trouble with under extension. It's currently laying down some pretty nice PETG lines at 245c. Cooling is good enough I had to turn down the fan to 30% to get good layer adhesion on the PETG. The Monoprice cat gcode printed beautifully in PLA with only the slightest overhang issue on the paw opposite the cooling fan that flaked off with my fingernail

Get your money's worth
Pros:
Cheap and large
Cons:
Barebones, not for beginners, cheap components
When you get this thing dialed in and set up it is a workhorse... a slow workhorse but the quality is great for the price. Tough to find such a large build plate in this range. The touch screen is weak and the features are minimal. Beginners to 3D printing beware, veterans will do just fine.

2 of these for a school have been excellent
Bought two of these on sale a year ago, both are out of the box excellent, but you should take time to do test prints with tweaked Cura 4.0 settings. We use 50mm/s and 200-205 nozzle temps on the .1mm layer height the parts are amazingly smooth and high quality.
Make sure to OVERRIDE the initial layer height, make it .1 or bigger...NOT smaller /default, or you will get the bed surface gouging others have talked about.
You may need to make-visible and then tweak your support material Z-offset to .1 or more so supports are not difficult to impossible to remove because they are imbedded in the part rather than just kissing it barely. Double rails a tthe bottom have been super stable and not shaky/wobbly like the Creality products we have. I maybe turned one knob a 16th of a turn on the first day out of the box after seeing a thin layer#1 in the corner of our first print, not other changes to speak of, but you can lower your jerk settings ( that's not how much of a flame troll you are...but how much your acceleration accelerates during movements ...learn some physics people.)

Hello 3d printing enthuist,
I started this little hobby at the beginning of the COVID pandemic in 2020. I went to my local Microcenter store and behold this monster sized printer. I wanted to get into cosplaying and costume creation so I think size mattered (it does sometimes). This is not a beginner friendly printer. After a few months, I was gifted an Ender 3. Which oppositely to the MP10 is friendly for beginners. Once I learned the basic steps of manually setting up a 3d printer, learning profile types, and overall maintence, it made the MP10 a powerhouse of a printer. Two things if you are having choppy or messy prints, slow down the print speed to 40mm/s. Yes it's slow and will take a while but this printer, does a great job at this speed. Secondly, practidce different profile types depending on whatt you are printing. On a side note, if you can upgrade to a metal extruder and a glass bed, I highly recommend it for long term use.

The auto leveling does not work
The auto leveling does not work and I have to figure out the Z offset every time I run that process. The Z offset should be constant once set. Very hard to use the printer when the auto leveling is wrong.

Not a fan of the mp 10
Did the test print on the first printer and it didn't look so good then nothing worked and I got a new one again and now I can't even do a test print.
Nothing against monoprice but quality of the printer is good and solid but after the first printer having multiple issues and getting the second one sent out he put together nothing would even print I couldn't get filament through the nozzle.

Ehh so-so
The test print worked great, but the second print dug into the mat and made a decent sized hole. It might have been a one off error, but I sent it back and requested a refund.
