Is the standard monoprice 12awg speaker wire (pid 2817) fine to run these speakers? Does the thx certification require any certain cabling?
A shopper
on Jul 11, 2020
A center channel cable is usually short because the receiver is usually close enough less than 10ft. An 18 gauge to 12 gauge is fine. I assure you you wont hear any difference. If the cable you are using needs to be longer than 48ft than go with 14 to 12 gauge. All cooper which is a bit more expensive is best. The cable with the cooper on positive and silver looking on the negative is not the best for loner runs than 10ft that is why those types are so cheap. Go for all cooper for longer than 10ft.

The speaker is very good. For THX there is (I believe) a specification for wire resistance. 12 gauge wire should be fine for 18-20 ft. Longer runs you might drop down to 10 gauge if using a stand alone power amp. The wire resistance adds to the power amp output impedance and significantly lowers the damping factor (ratio of speaker impedance/amp output impedance + cable resistance). Good power amps have damping factors of 100-several hundred.

Depends on distance from amp...should work fine for a short run, but check online for advice as to best guage to use for longer runs. Stick with all copper and whatever gage you need to keep resistance to a minimum. Can't help on THX.

Absolutely fine. You don't need oxygen free or any other hyped up cable. Save your money and put it into something that matters like speakers and amps.

A 12awg soeajer wire is fine. I used a 16 which is small but would work as well. Regular cabling is ok.

Yes, however the base of the speaker is not flat and so shims or some kind of wedge in the front is harder to use. unless your stand has a lot of surface area. I have used adjustable isolation stands to arrive at a pitch that seems to work.

It doesn't have anything built-in to adjust the angle, but it has a flat bottom that is large enough to put a wedge underneath it; thats what i did and it sounds amazing, highly recommend this speaker

Is this amplifier M8250x too much for the following 7.1.4 setup using only Monoprice equipment? THX-465T - L/R Fronts, THX-365C - Center, THX-365T - L/R Surround Sides & L/R Surround Backs, 4x Alpha In-Ceiling 8in with 15 degree Angled Drivers Product # 34198 (Atmos), M-215 subs. Because the HTP-1 is out of stock until June, 2023 I might have to pick up the Arcam AV41 to throw into this Monoprice exclusive setup. I already have the speakers. I need the correct powered equipment to push them.

Not at all. I use this amp to drive Goldenear SuperCinema X sound bar for front 3 and SuperSat 3s for surround and Atmos. It is PERFECT. It's clean and powerful with great dynamic range. It VANISHES in the background. But if you want to know output you can expect, search for "Peak SPL Calculator" and input the data. It will give you a good representation of what sound pressure level you'll achieve with this amp and those speakers.

Afraid I don't have any experience with those speakers but the amp definitely puts out (mine at least) the full advertised power. It may even be a bit conservative. I have it running front wide and 6 heights (7x running the other 7 base layer). I can also say that it blends quite well with the 7x despite being a "class D"... and it's a LOT lighter LOL

Can I safely use THX-365T and THX-365C with Yamaha TSR-7850 dues to speakers being rated at 4 ohm?

BEST ANSWER: From the research I've done on Audioholics I think it would be fine, especially paired with a subwoofer x'd over at 80hz. Probably should keep it under +5 db on your volume, either way modern stereos will just power off if it draws too much power. I have that same yamaha amp and I ordered these speakers, I'll try to remember to update this after I get them settled in.

The owners manual for the TSR-7850 indicates a minimum speaker impermanence is 6 Ohms, so the answer is No. There is a speaker impedance setting inside the receiver menus for 8 or 6 Ohms. It states the minimum setting is 6 Ohms. I hope this helps.

But the manual also lists peak power for various ohms including 4 ohm, and the general statements that i saw on internet including statements from AVR manufacturers state that modern receivers are supposed to be able to handle 4 ohms (within reason) even if they listed as supporting 8 ohms so it is confusing. Can someone from Monoprice comment?

You have to look at your Yamaha specs, it the specs state that it can run 4 or 8 Ohms, then you are good to go. If it says 8 Ohms only, then don't do it because you will damage the amp.Enter

BEST ANSWER: The dimensions of that cabinet appear to be able to accommodate this speaker, but my only concern would be that the height of the speaker would be quite low and aimed at people's knees. The height opening of that piece of furniture is 9.96" whilst this speaker is 9.7".
Ideally, one should aim the speaker to point at the sitting position of a person's head to get the best sound (personal experience).
That being said, everyone has their own personal taste. This speaker is so good you may not care about where it is aimed.

Are you asking if you can place something on top of your speaker? You are correct that it is round. But even if it wasn't, I would never put something on top of my $500 speaker. You're going to need to build a shelf around it if that's what you want.

It is not flat but curved so you would want space between the top of the speaker and a shelf. I use a TV riser which you can search on the web. I believe I needed 9” height to clear the top of the speaker.

I wouldn't use the immersive for the rear channels unless you have a system that needs up firing drivers. I think there is another set of bookshelf type speakers that might work better. If you are trying to make a full system that uses THX Certified speakers, then these aren't it, but they are decent speakers. The should work very well in mid-range systems as satellites, surrounds, or rear channel speakers. As the quality of your system moves up speakers like these should move back, and they wouldn't work well in a high end environment as their shortcomings would be showcased. (too much in the middle and not enough base).
Mine are still a little tight sounding and have more mids and less lows than I would like, but I expect that to change a little after break-in. Once they break in I expect to have decent middle of the road performance from them that pairs well with my sub-woofer. They are good inexpensive solidly performing speakers.

Glad you're coming out with a non-Atmos tower. Why? Most people buying a quality speaker as a Monolyth speaker will want separate ceiling speakers for use as Atmost speakers. Refective sound is NOT IDEAL FOR Atmos! I'd think most people choosing to buy quality equipment such as Monolyth have no need or want for a built in Atmost speaker in a high quality tower speaker.

Hello! Could you please publish the measurements according to "Spinorama CEA 2034-A-2015 (ANSI)" standard?
These speakers look great with THX Ultra certification and you even started publishing a bit of measurements for the listening window. As you know that your horizontal dispersion is well designed, please provide the data in a proper CEA 2034-A-2015 (ANSI) graph to support the claim. Then these speakers will go on top of the recommendation list with probably unbeatable combination of objective measurements, price and design.

True, a review by James Larson at Audioholics could actually show the CEA2034 measurements. Strange thing is that you most likely have high quality CEA2034 graphs right now (as you did publish the listening window), but your customers will need to look at the certainly less optimal Audioholics measurements instead. Where might we be able to give feedback / make a suggestion? Mine is the following: would Monoprice please consider making a quad woofer Center speaker (say the 'THX-460C') in order to better match with the performance of the Monolith THX-460T (and THX-465T). The THX-365C is fine for use with the Bookshelf THX-365T, however it really won't keep up as the "oh so important Center speaker" when used with the THX-460T. OK, well just a suggestion worth considering. Thank you!

Well for one... with Movies bass/effects are clearly boosted, and for frequencies that are > 80 hz, and therefore Center channel speakers with quad 6.5's (or even quad 5.25) fair much better (or if they have dual 12s, 10s, and just maybe dual 8s). #2 - For Music, folks looking for Rock Concert like performances in their home (and No, not nose bleed levels... just on the Loud side) will also suffer from a Center speaker without quad woofers. I currently have dual 7s and my buddy quad 5.25s. The quad 5.25s fair better in the above mentioned areas. I was very happy to see quad 6.5s in the Towers, too bad you all didn't follow suit and offer a quad woofer center. The 80 hz crossover / THX design no doubt Helps a lot, however quad woofers would still perform superior to the dual woofer setup being offered. So there really isn't a need for the Tower versions either, but you created them :) Also, there really isn't a need for a DUAL 15" Subwoofer, but then there too you created it :) Oh well, maybe in the future you will consider offering a quad woofer center..., despite it not "really" being needed.

Semi cheeky question - I plan to use the THX-365C THX with the new Atmos Tower Speakers when they launch in March. I was considering buying the center speaker now, while waiting for the towers to come out - but my worry is if there is a pending revision of the speakers likely to drop that would mean I should wait to get the center at the same time as the towers for the best tonal compatibility?

I am looking into a 11.2 system with the Denon X6500, with a 365C, (4) 365T, (2) 12 inch Monolith Subwoofers, and (4) 265B for the front and rear presence L/R. For the last 2 speakers, which are the back surround L/R, would it be better to go with (2) 365T or (2) 265B? Thanks

I am setting up a home theater with Monolith THX-365IW In-Wall Speakers as front and back L+R and the Monolith THX-365C as the center channel. Each of those speakers have an impedance of 4 ohms. Will this receiver be adequate to power those well? I'm a bit of a newbie to all of this, so I appreciate any answers. Thank you!

I've read all the reviews and am impressed with how well thought of this speaker is. My theater has electrostatic speakers for the mains and surrounds. My center electrostatic is currently distorting frequencies around 80hz and 3000hz (ML Logos). To have it repaired will cost much more than the cost of this speaker. Should I expect a much different sound with the Monolith? Is its clarity anywhere close to an electrostatic panel?

BEST ANSWER: Yes, it will not be a timbre match for an Electrostatic speaker. This is a great center, but I don't think it will match your other speakers, unfortunately. If you are using Dirac, or other room tuning EQ systems, the differences in sound may be reduced.

BEST ANSWER: You're going to need to look at some specs. But mine is currently sitting on the floor while I get a stand for it. Still sounds great and I hardly notice that it's that low. That's part of why I choose these, you don't need a perfect angle for good quality sound.

NOT Flawed MTM Design and sounds Great!
Nothing outperforms Monolith for the price and all these speakers sound great! These speakers are objectively great THX Ultra certified (which means rated for 3000 cubic ft space) and there are no bad reviews.
I bought M-215. The M-215 sub outperforms their 16" THX sub above 20Hz and way better below 20Hz and has a smaller footprint. Unless you were going to put something above the 16" THX sub, which I cannot imagine what, this IS THE ONE! I recently upgraded from a SVS PB-1000 Pro to this M-215 Dual 15in THX sub. I luv it! Never have I spent money better, lol! This sub was a HUGE upgrade! I went from quality entry level 12" sub to endgame sub!
Saw Youtube video about some guy saying he had to keep sending these back, which would be a pita! He is cranking the subs with a 12.5Hz test tone, which is below our hearing and then complaining about some noise, which is dumb. Using the sub normally with real content you wouldn't hear it so who cares. ALL Ported subs will make port noise if cranked near their tuning freq especially with below audible test tone.
I bought THX-365C. It's NOT the flawed MTM design... Now all my speakers are the same drivers.
I bought 4 THX-365T's. Tweeter height is 12". I went with 28" stands because my ear height is about 39"-40". I want my atmos speakers above ear height, which from what I've read and heard from "experts" IF the bouncing atmos is to work... MUST be above your ear height. I have a flat low ceiling of 7'10". I just got new receiver so I haven't tried it yet. Even if you don't use these atmos speakers on top, still no better deal.
I bought 4 28" easel stands. The pic on these easel stand needs to be changed or updated... it's not quite accurate. These stands are obviously wider at the base so the bottom feet are at a bit of an angle... The pic shows the spike, then a cone that meets up with the tube... there is no cone. I can't imagine this matters as you would use the spikes on plush carpet and you won't see anything anyway, but I can't say for sure. I'm on hardwood floors so no spikes for me. Try to imagine you took one of the tube legs and put it flat on the floor, the other 2 legs would be off the floor then... can't think of a better way to explain... but when you set the stand down, it's a tripod and very stable but each tube isn't flat on the ground, each tube if you reach down only the inner part of the tube is on the floor. I can't really even see this and I don't see this as a problem at all. Also, in my old house the floor isn't level everywhere... many stands have a bottom plate that could wobble... never an issue with a tripod which is surely why they chose that design.
Because of my sub and my hardwood floor is suspended over the open space garage below... my floor vibrates, which is awesome, lol. I have 6 SVS rubber isolation subwoofer feet on my sub... it's been weeks and I keep checking the mini towers on the easel stand to see if they are vibrating or moving on the stands and they are not. They fit on that top plate and the little rubber feet are maybe .5" from the edge in front and back and they seem to be not moving at all. It is very nice that the top plate twists... you put the stand where you need the way you want and can just turn the speaker when setting up. For what it's worth... they can hold 100lbs. There is almost certainly no speaker bigger then the Mini-towers I bought you would put on these, but I have 2 Powerblock 50lbs adjustable dumbbells and the sides are flat... I stacked then on and it held no prob, they are sturdy BUT the weight was centered... I would NOT push down on the edge of that top plate... it's not flimsy but it does flex... this isn't a prob as the weight will be centered.

Out of my 3 sepate orders I had 1 speaker that was dinged and had to send back everything else was perfect. Their CS was fine... got booted of a chat and had to start over, that's annoying. They sent emails that gave instructions that were a little off, annoying, but it wasn't that bad. Whenever chatting with any company, type everything in notepad once so you can copy & paste.
Anyway, I sent them a pic of the damage at the guy's request... Email wouldn't go through... he gave me a link to upload it somewhere else and that worked... Again, this is life in the Internet age, nothing works right, lol. He sent me an email with a return label.
These were easy to unbox carefully, and I keep ALL the boxes, so it was easy to put back in the box... dropped it off at FedEx store... day later they saw it was on the way and shipped me another one. ALL 4 times my order showed up in 3 days! Maybe I'm just close, but that's impressive right there. If you are not rich Monolith IS THE WAY! I am 100% happy with everything I bought and recommend!

Great center, but should go on sale more often
Dialogue is dynamic, clear and consistent across the listening area. They have a neutral transparent crisp sound that is detailed without being fatiguing. I think they should be $400 though.
