Can the USB-C data port carry video data?
New User U
on Apr 24, 2019
BEST ANSWER: USB-C can technically carry video if it supports DP Alt mode. No mention on this page so I'd assume it doesn't support it, but it's best to check with customer service.

USB-C cannot carry video data, just HDMI, display port and Thunderbolt 3 can carry video data.

Yes, if it is the new Air, with USB-C ports. By the way, this is an excellent hub, works better than any others I've had.

what does the Aluminum alloy shell do for health?
A shopper
on Jan 8, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Unclear if you are asking about your personal, human health or the health of the adapter itself. Assuming the latter, the aluminum shell will dissipate heat much better than, say, a plastic shell would.

I want to use this as a no-video docking station.
Will the PD port (opposite the built-in cable) accept power from a wall adapter and provide 3.5A to the built-in cable?

BEST ANSWER: No. The adapter gets it power through the built-in cable with a USB-C plug from the computer to which it is attached.

I have a MacBook Air with two USB-C ports. From reading, the way I'd use this is my power USB would be connected directly to one of the MacBookAir's ports and this would connect to the other. Then the USB-C port on the adapter marked with the power symbol could be used to power other devices requiring USB-C power. I should *not* connect my laptop power to any port on the adapter.
Is this a fair description of i's use?

Monoprice Consul Series USB-C 10G Hub Adapter with 2-Port Type-A, 2-Port Type-C, 100W PD 3.0

Monoprice Mobile Series USB-C to 2-Port USB 3.0, USB-C 10Gbps Port, USB-C 100W Power Delivery Port with Folding USB Type-C Connector
So I believe this is what I'm looking for but I want to be sure.
I have a single board computer with one USB-C connection can be used to power the device and/or connect a display if your display has power pass through to power the computer while plugged into the display with its power source.
This is my problem....
I have a display that has one USB-C port for power/display data that I can connect to my computer's one USB-C port. But now I have no way to power the set-up.
I'm hoping I can use this hub to plug my charging cable to the USB-C PD port on the hub, connect the hub's cable to my computer, and lastly use the last USB-C port to power and send display data to my display in 4k?
This set up will work with this hub?
Thanks,
Dan

Great, but cord is too short!
So far it appears to work great and to appear as advertised. Im using it with an iMac, not a laptop, however, and as a result the cable that connects it to the computer is way too short. The hub kind of hangs in midair behind my computer. If that cable was just two inches longer, I wouldnt have this problem. This is disappointing and annoying for me, but not a deal-killer.

Great little accessory
I use a laptop while watching tv. I have a stand which allowed me to attach a Belkin dock with all sorts of connections. I only used the extra usbc and usb3 connectors. It was self powered. I decided to get this dock which is much smaller and has all the connectors I use. Its small footprint and quality design is appreciated. I gave it only 4 stars because it is not self powered so when I turn my laptop off I cant charge my phone overnight through it. Small price to pay though.

PD does not work
this is my second after the first was returned due to PD not working properly. the 2nd one was even worse. i wished it worked as this is exactly what i need for my 12" macbook to be able to charge and plug in additional usb c dongle for gigabit ethernet or usb c ssd. wish it would support both simultaneously and also support my usb c monitor but i guess this is too much to ask atm. monoprice replaced the first one but i have not heard back about the second.

'A' ports 5Gbps, 'C' ports 10Gbps (non-4K)
The review that gave 3 out of 5 stars is confused. You need Monoprice part #35509 with 'C' in from your Laptop to HDMI 4K out to monitor. This unit has 'C' port for power delivery and 10Gbps Data transfer (non-4K) and 'C' port for 10Gbps Data transfer only. (1 each)
1 'A' port is for charging and 5Gbps Data transfer.
1 'A' port is for 5Gbps Data transfer (1 each)

Good but not for use with a 4k monitor.
All of the ports work well enough but neither of the USB C ports work with to drive a 4k monitor from a MacBook Pro
