I purchased the Monolith 14 gauge speaker wires for peace of mind. I wanted to replace 30 years old speaker wires when I got my new Goldenear Triton 3+ speakers. I am in the middle ground camp when it comes to wires. I don't believe super expensive wires are necessary. However, I want a big enough gauge within a well- constructed wire. I believe Monoprice makes a great product, especially for the price. My speakers sound great, so they Monoliths are doing their job. I'm very happy with this purchase.
On the whole, I am pleased with these cables. They replaced simple, multi-strand OFC. I believe they add openness throughout the spectrum and lend presence to the mid-bass.
I will caution people to give these time to settle in before judging. When I first hooked them up, the top end was so bright and harsh, as was the upper midrange. However, after about 25-50 hours, they really calmed down. The top end and upper midrange became open and revealing. I’ve got over 300 hours on them now and they have settled in nicely. They’re not going to sound like $500 cables for $50, but they sound way better than what I had and those weren’t much cheaper than these.
These are far more impressive than they appear to be in the on-line pictures and have exceeded my expectations. I’m certain they’ll sound as good as they look and that I’ll have top upgrade my amps and speakers in order to match the quality of these cables. Maybe that’s Monoprice’s M.O. (modus operandi) and their secret agenda. If that’s the case, good work. I'm hooked.
