How far back can I separate the LR audio from the 3 component ends? I need at least 12 inches back so one end so I can run the audio and video on one end fo the cable to different components.

BEST ANSWER: As you can see in the product photo, there is a plastic band binding the cable about 6 inches from cable ends. You can slide this band further back, or simply cut it off. You should be able to separate the individual cables by pulling them apart, which will tear a thin web of insulation between them. Be aware the smaller left and right audio cables are on the far outsides of the bundle. The 3 video cables are in the middle.

They only separate a few inches from the connectors but you can easily split them. Just slide the band that prevents accidental splitting farther back and pull them apart. The 5 way cable has the two audio lines outboard of the three video lives so you will end up with 1 + 3 + 1 as opposed to 3 + 2 but no big deal.

There are rubber band type straps around all 5 cables on both ends. Once you cut them off you can peel apart all 5 ends as far back as you need to.

The audio and video ports for my TV and sound system are far apart, will I be able to remove the plastic piece holding the 5 cables close together so that I can stretch the heads further apart?

Good quality cable
Connected this to a component switch box, and it provides a pretty clean signal with very minimal noise, if any. The only down side is that the three RG-59 cables that make up the video component signals are super stiff, making it a bit difficult to lay exactly the way you want them, but the clean signal makes up for any inconvenience.

audio cables need to be a tad bit longer.
audio cables are too short. the tension to keep the cables plugged in is not tight enough. because the audio cables are so short. either the audio or one of the video cable constantly pulls out due to the tension.

Very Good
This is a great cable, I just wish the audio connectors were a little longer than the RGB connections. as it is, you have to bend the video ones a little bit in order for the audio to reach, even if the audio is right next to the RGB connections. The only way you won't is if you have the audio input (or outputs) split on either side of the video.

Using this to run from the Component Switch to my TV. They work as expected but I find they don't fit too snug, you may find they come loose if moved around too much.

Great Cable
