In what applcation would someone have use for these in a home entertainment system or internet system.?
Are there routers or tv that use such hardware that require these cables?

BEST ANSWER: Your regular home won't need this. This is great for longer distances where regular cat6 would not make the distance (would need to be longer than these cables). Also, it is less vulnerable to lighting so pulling a cable outside this is the safer way to go.
I think fiber optic cables can go miles in distance vs cat6 which I about 350 feet. (can't recall exact lenghts). For high secure connections it is also better since you can't read any electronic signals (outside the cable) since there is none.

There are some AV audio extenders that can use light to transmit sound, but most home residential use would be fiber to the home for gigabit plus speeds for internet.
