BEST ANSWER: The SWA-200 has a 12V trigger option on the back. When plugged in to your main system via 3.5mm jacks it will power up and down with you main unit.

Hello. If plugged into the amp it powers on when the amp/receiver is turned on.
It automatically powers the subwoofer if it is set to do so.
I think it does go into "standby mode" , but I have not yet paid such close attention to that aspect

Yes on both counts. I was a little worried when I didn't see a 12V trigger post but it does turn on when it senses signal.

What is this difference between this and the Unity Bridgeable amp?
Kasey L

Monoprice SWA-200 200-watt Subwoofer Amp with Crossover and Phase Control
Monoprice Unity 200-Watt Bridgeable Power Amp
BEST ANSWER: The SWA-200 is a dedicated sub woofer amp that includes a stereo crossover network so it can derive the signal for the single subwoofer from the left and right speaker feeds of your existing stereo speaker system. It is great for adding a subwoofer to a stereo system that doesn't have provision for one.
The unity 200w bridgable amp is just a basic stereo amp to power the left and right speakers in a stereo system. It can be bridged and used as a powerful mono amp to drive a single speaker such as a subwoofer, but you have to already have a line level properly phased subwoofer signal available for it.

The difference is in the description. Th subwoofer amp had the crossover that controls the frequency range sent to the woofer. This means filtering out high frequencies that the sub can’t handle anyway.
As for phase control, I don’t think anyone knows what that does. :)
The other amp (which I have) amplifies all frequencies. Has an gain knob to control output level. That’s about it. On/off.

I bought the Unity 200 but I am having issues with it putting any power to the Alpha 10” sub. What do you have?
I have mine for a wall-mounted subwoofer. It’s not ideal but it’s functional. If you have space and want good sound then the mono price 10” sub is a really good deal. Though I have a klipsch 12” and a 10” on my surround.
One thing! Wire the amp to use the combined channel to get all of the power from the amp to the single sub.

Can I power two 4 ohm subwoofers with this amp?
A shopper
on Sep 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No, the amp is only stable to 4Ω total. You can wire your subs in series instead of parallel but this will yield a 8Ω load to the amp which will only give you about 110W total power or 55W per sub. I would get 2 amps.

I intend to use this amp to power a dual voice coil 8 ohm 12" woofer. I will wire them in parallel for a combined load of 4 ohms. I'm hoping the amp really is stable at that point. Has anybody had any experience doing this? Second question. The crossover should be a high pass filter to limit the bass frequencies delivered to the satellites. Have you found that this crossover is effective in protecting your satellite speakers from low bass?

Pleasantly surprised
I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. I needed an external amp to replace a plate amp in an old powered subwoofer with the same power output. This little amp is amazing. I have a Baby Boomer that the plate amp died that was 800 watts and it pushed those two 8? speakers as well if not better. Highly recommended

Great way to add a subwoofer
I used this to add a subwoofer to my old stereo that didn't have provision for one. I connected my Left and Right speaker wires to it so it could derive the subwoofer signal.
I initially had an issue wth 60Hz hum, but adding a single ground wire from my stereo receiver to the subwoofer amp easily solved that problem.
It runs cool and I leave it on all the time.

A Pretty Damn Good Amp
Strong sub amp, I was worried since I didn't see an audio sensitive trigger that I'd have to jump through hoops to not have my electricity bill go through the roof, but after setting it up, all was well and it did automatically turn itself off. Strong amp power, I'd rather no volume control but I get why it needs it. Overall: a pretty damn good amp
