How does this connector trim the wire?

BEST ANSWER: You put the wires across their designated slots put cove on that pushes wires down well in slots. For me I just took scissors and trim excess wires from side to get the short as I wanted and bent down and etc excess. Worked well and easy for me.

You don't trim the wire. You cut back about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of the outer vinyl cover, leaving you your 8 wires. Feed them to where they need to go. When you push them in place it will cut through and make connection to wire.

IT doesn't. There may be a specialty tool that does, but I bought some of these and my guys absolutely hated them.

How is the width on these (ID: 15656)? I had a problem with the Toolless Cat5e jack (ID: 310) being too wide for the 24-port panel plate (ID: 7260). Will I have the same problem with these?

Monoprice Cat6 RJ45 Toolless 180-Degree Keystone Jack for 22-24AWG Solid Wire, White
Monoprice 24-port Keystone Jack Panel
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. The PID 15656 keystone jacks will fit the PID 7260 patch panel no problem. They will not be as wide as the PID 310 keystone jacks were. I hope this helps.

Will these fit in any keystone panel (not wall plate, but rack-style panel) you sell? If not, exactly how wide are they?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
As the description would say these cannot fit side by side in wall plates or panels.
These should fit into most if not all of the average sized panels ports.

Any tips to get a reliable connection with these ? I can get 100mb/s relatively reliably but getting 1gb/s is hard.

Pretty easy to work with. No issues. Search YouTube for a how to if needed. Great for the few network ports I needed. I wouldn't want to set up an entire data center or office using these though.

Fits well. Works well. A bit tricky to get all the wires in properly. It just takes a bit of practice.

Works perfectly!
Got a little scared about some of the negative reviews. But the only issue I had was not pushing the wire in far enough before pushing down the plastic lid to make a connection, and that's more of a user error issue and not the product. I don't own a cable tester, so I used a multimeter with some needles taped on the leads to check the connections. It wasn't pretty, but it got the job done. I put this keystone jack in a couple weeks ago and everything's been working great since.

Would not reccomend
This are a pain to punch down because you have to pre-cut the wires instead of with other punchdown jacks where you cut them afterwards. If the wires are long enough, some of them won't reach the connections because the wires all don't connect at the same place. I got these because they were smaller, I think, I don't know why. Would not buy them again, I would rather mess with a punchdown tool instead of these. Had to re-do every connection after testing them.

First disappointment...
I've used MonoPrice for years and I STILL WILL!! Everyone gets a bye. This keystone jack needs to be discontinued. I worked for an hour to get the wires in place to close the connector to seat the wires. It never happened and I quit out of frustration. I'm sad to say I went to Home Depot and bought one that had a punch down tool and it worked. it was 3x the Monoprice cost but worked. Monoprice, please keep-up the quality we expect. Discontinue this substandard product.

Cat5E Jack
The jack was reasonably priced. It did not require any tools to hookup wires to it. As advertised.

Tool-less that comes with a tool
Ok, yes it's tool-less meaning you do not need a punch tool. But you need a lever to squeeze it together. Misleading, but once you get the hang of doing this, it's much easier than punching down 8 wires. Great product, good design,
