You mention that the top will hold 3 monitors with a center mount - this is good and my need as well.. The gas lift frame mentions ~17 pounds of lifting force. With this desktop (34 lbs?), will the gas lift frame still lift the desk with the 34 lb top and 3 monitors?

Workstream by Monoprice Height Adjustable Gas-Lift Sit-Stand Desk Frame, 5ft

Workstream by Monoprice Height Adjustable Gas-Lift Sit-Stand Desk Top, 5ft Black
BEST ANSWER: Hi, the gas-spring desk would need the user to help lift if up with the 3 monitors. The 17-lbs lifting force was designed to feel neutral with a light computer setup only. For heavier setups, the electric desk frames (15722, 21590, 21591, 31290, 31291, 31292, 35377) would be the easier and more convenient solution. Just to clarify, the desktop itself could support the weight of extra monitors since it has a solid MDF core. The desk itself could support the static load as well. But the frame needs help from the user to lift and to lower slowly if the load surpasses the lifting force it provides. Hope this helps. Thanks.

I use this with three Dell 23" monitors, and it requires some extra help to lift. It does work, but if I were going to do it again I would go the motorized route.

I am interested in using this base with 6 foot solid maple benchtop. Any problem with that?

BEST ANSWER: Hi, it's possible to mount your own desktop, you'll just need to drill and possibly use your own mounting hardware. Another important thing to consider is that your solid maple top is probably really heavy and it could exceed the gas-lift assistance from the lifting mechanism. This means you would need to exert more effort to lift the desk for height adjustments than if you were to use our desktop. An alternative you could consider if your solid maple top is really heavy is to use a dual motor desk frame like products 15722, 21590, or 21591. Hope this helps.

Hi. I was wondering if the 17.6 lbs life capacity includes the desk top or is in addition to it? It says that the desktop made for this base is 53lbs.

Workstream by Monoprice Height Adjustable Gas-Lift Sit-Stand Desk Frame, 5ft

Workstream by Monoprice Table Top for Sit-Stand Height-Adjustable Desk, 5ft Black
BEST ANSWER: Hi, product 30913 would work better for this desk frame and will mount directly.
The table top you asked about could work but there are a couple of things to consider. First is there are no direct mounting points, although it is easy enough to screw to the desk directly. Second is that top is heavier so it doesn't work as well for the gas lift desk with its lower load rating.

Can the table be assembled without mounting that steel mesh support piece?
I have a couple of sit stand desks that are crank. They don't have the horizontal mesh support that mounts across the two legs. I anticipate that I would repeatedly hit my shins on that support piece.

BEST ANSWER: Hi, removing that part will reduce desk stability and will affect durability if the desk is rolled around. It could also cause the legs to not be parallel and could affect the smoothness of height adjustments. We do not recommend removing that piece and would recommend the manual crank or electric desk frame instead if the horizontal support is an issue with this model. Or if you really plan on modifying it by not attaching that piece, it would be a good idea to find a way to brace the lower legs somehow so stability and alignment is not compromised. Hope this helps.

How does the lowering process work? Does it require you to put additional weight on the top to get it to go down? I'm thinking of using this in classrooms where we have been asked to provide a worksurface for the instructor in the well of the classroom where they will inevitably be standing much of the time... but sometimes may choose to sit. We won't put any equipment on it, it will be just a bare table available for the instructor to put their notes, books, and other materials on during a class session.

BEST ANSWER: Hi, you are correct, you pull a lever and push down on the table to lower the desk. This should work with your intended application. Thanks for checking.

I have this desk. Overall I like it, but whether lifting or lowering, it sticks at first. Once it's moving it's ok, but I almost have to shake it hard for it to unstick. Would applying some WD-40 at the legs help?

what is the nut size for tightening the hollow bolt housing the cable for the Height Adjustable Gas-Lift Sit-Stand Desk Frame, 5ft? The included mini wrench got lost, probably one of my kids took it while I got distracted when trying to assemble de desk frame.

could this be modified to reduce the width easily? I want a table that can be adjustable but is in the 24-36 in width range and can't find one - So I will look to modify instead.

Nice legs.
Solid desk, love the wheels and the ability to move it around easily.
Takes a little nudge to move the legs up and down when you have a certain amount of weight on it. Have to find the right spots to pull the desk up and push it back down. Other than that, less moving parts than a electric desk. A lot quieter too.

Love it!
Ive been using this with great success for almost two years now. I do have it slightly overloaded with an 8 kitchen countertop from ikea. So when raising I need to provide a little manual lift to help it out. But thats my own fault. Otherwise it works great and I love how easy it is to move. Lift up the front slightly and the back wheels let you move it around anywhere.

Ok, but needs some minor work.
Ordered 2 of these 5ft desk frames and 2 walnut tops for work. The tops are fine, but the metal cable passthru is a little thin/flimsey and could be better if the metal was thicker. Of the 2 bases, 1 of them was damaged and 1 leg would not lock in place. The other base arrived with no damage or defects, but the tension to raise lower the desk could be a little stronger. The average computer setup will cause the desk to lower when the release is pushed, creating a need to lift the desk by hand. Assembly was straight forward and the mechanical cable mechanism was ok to install and deal with. However, once the top is on there is no way to adjust the cables to accuate the legs. Overall, it's an average desk for the money.
