Is this good for kids?
A shopper
on Feb 21, 2020
BEST ANSWER: This 3D printer has been specifically designed for safety and ease of use. The enclosure is designed to be a barrier between the heat required for melting plastic and the user. The door stops processing if opened but of course there are still very hot parts exposed when opened. Safety aside, the printer and software are easy to set-up and use. Yes it is good for kids but it is still a powered tool and must be used under some age-based supervision. It is designed for educational use.

My son has been working with one similar to this since 8th grade, is in 12th now. We've been looking at getting one for a few years and when this came up for $200, we jumped on it. It's nice that it's enclosed, as we have a little one running around too. It gives him plenty of space to create things, if he continues to use it and sells things, we may upgrade to a larger print size. In order to use it, you would need to understand the programs but he says it's easy.

This printer has cloud features that allow kids to create a project on the Polar site and send their project directly to the printer. The printer is also very easy to use once it has been assembled. Initial setup is easy and well directed by the on screen display. So yes, let them bring their imagination and they should enjoy it.

If the kid can install a program on a real computer, yes. This was my first printer, but I was up and running in no time. Keep in mind, there is a learning curve. If the kid just wants to download a file and print it's pretty easy. Good luck!

I think it would be a good unit to get them started with. It’s easy to set up and get working and the software is very easy to use. Use Tinkercad online to make models and you are off and running in no time.

Yes, use TinkerCad and be ready to buy filament. My daughter is having a great time printing. We have run several jobs for the shop and just for fun. Very low print times, super fast turn around.

Where in the world are the software downloads..... NEED MP FLASHPRINT???
A shopper
on Dec 8, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Monoprice does not now list MP Flashprint in the area where the manual, specs, can be downloaded. Instead go to the Monoprice section for the Voxel (or other 3d printer) and there they do list versions of the MP Flashprint software (Mac, Windows, etc.). Download the one for your OS. Install it and run it. Then you can select the proper printer (MP Inventor II) under Print/Machine Type tab. It will work fine. Another option is to download the software from the Flashforge website for the Inventor II (they are the same).

Extremely good beginner printer but with a few caviats
This printer is pretty dang good right out of the box. Being my first printer, it didn't take very long to get started. The quality of the majority of my prints have been superb. Beware though, you'll need to print out a spool mount (using the included filament) if you plan on using any that aren't designed specifically for this printer.
The biggest issue faced was with the touchscreen. There's a calibration issue with my unit that I still haven't been able to fix which has made certain parts of the interface practically unusable. I've contacted Monoprice's support team, and they got back to me in a timely manner but still without a fix sadly.
I'd highly recommend updating the firmware to the latest FlashForge Inventor II firmware once you get this printer. It's a very simple, quick process and adds a lot of new features that the MP firmware doesn't have such as Ethernet, Webcam, and FlashCloud.
I've been using FlashPrint as my slicer and I haven't dipped into Cura yet. It's been a delight so far, and I wouldn't recommend Cura unless you manage multiple models of printers or already have experience with it.
